Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe place is big, but a little rundown. The food selection is not good, mostly African cuisine. The meat is not tender.

AustraliaAbout half of the lodge has fallen into ruin and abandoned post-covid, well past its obvious former glory - all the rooms with the best views are gone. The beds were the hardest and most uncomfortable of any of the beds in all the lodges we stayed at during the trip - you could feel the springs sticking into your back - definitely in need of new beds.
Good location close to the park with a view of Kilimanjaro

CanadaThe food in the restaurant/buffet was very limited and repetitive day after day, so best for a single night regarding food. And the staff in the dinning hall was pretty weird, essentially patrolling for plates to pick up, much too quickly. The pool, like most other safari lodges, was not kept clean.
The grounds of the lodge are lovely, but you need to walk to a particular place to see Mt Kilamanjaro, and it's often hidden by clouds. There are monkeys and banded mongoose on the grounds as well as birds. The front desk is frindly and helpful with arranging transportation.

KenyaMore attention to detail is needed by the room staff, I had no floor mat for the bathroom until my final day. The wardrobe had no room for my clothes as it was packed with old blankets. The wifi could have been better especially as mobile reception in the lodge is limited.
Staff, location, food and cleanliness all good. The rooms were very spacious and the beds comfortable.

CanadaThe bed! A fan is a necessity there, not a luxury.
Good breakfast. Uncomfortable bed. Could feel the springs. Hot room without a fan. Room and bathroom were very nice. Beautiful grounds. Helpful staff. Enjoyed the Masai dance entertainment.

United KingdomThe food was generally uninteresting and second rate, and the dining area lacked any kind of atmosphere.
The lodge is conveniently situated just outside Amboseli National Park, although the access road to it was dreadful. The tent that we had was comfortable but had obviously seen better days.

BulgariaI think the main issue is the lack of good organization - I had booked a cottage, but given a tent (staff helped with moving eventually); I couldn't get adequate information about the safari I had requested with the booking which caused us some stress because we thought we might miss our chance to do it as we were staying for just one full day (it turned out ok, but we ended up having a safari that was shorter than we expected). Mosquito protection was flawed (a net that was torn), maybe second biggest issue for me. Difficult to reach - no good public transport options, private transfer must be used for some parts of the route and the lodge is doing very little to help that. Low water pressure, electricity outages, but those I am really able to understand, they made our stay rather feel more authentic.
The lodge provides many amenities and services (pool, animation, etc.) that considering the location are really great. Nice decoration and gardening, everything including the reception, restaurant, etc. built in a traditional style. We liked the food served, considering again the location of the lodge. The cottage where we stayed we found really nice - spacious, again built in a traditional style, it had a safety box, clean. Good value for money compared to the rest of the lodges/camps around. Staff nice and attentive, willing to help.

IndiaWe had booked a cottage and paid a bomb for it. however upon arrival, we were given tents. After entering the room we realized we had been created, so after complaining they gave us another room and after we complained again, they gave us a cottage. we lost 2 hours in the process. the room that we finally got, was also something we are not sure of whether it was what we had booked. THE vegetarian food was limited and what was made itself was disgusting. bad experience, not recommended the bathroom was bad too. it was stinking and dirty. the shower did not have your water too. see how dirty it was from the photo, besides it was not even fixed
Bad experience

United StatesThe lighting in the room could have been better.
The lodge was very clean, and the room was spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was very convenient to enter the national park and on the way, you might also find several animals. We were greeted by multiple monkeys, a giraffe and several types of deer. The food was awesome as well and the restaurant staff was very good. The swimming pool was very clean and had a very good view of Mount Kilimanjaro.

GermanyOur stay was a complete DISASTER and the staff did not apologize or compensate! We booked a big room with a bath, but found out the AA lodge Does not have such rooms. When we arived late, they first gave us a Tent. After our complains, they gave us a cottage. But nothing came close to what we booked for. The toilet had poop in it still, there was only 1 dirty towel. The staff did not apologize for this either. The Pool was full of died flies, and again no clean towels at the poolside. The staff did nothing to compensate, when we asked for the manager some of the other staff gave only 20 dollar discount in total. We didnt accept that, but they did nothing more for us, only an arrogant attitude and a threat of calling security when we wouldnt Pay. We ofcourse wanted to pay, but with a discount matching the different room and all these problems.

IndiaThere is no wifi in the rooms, but they have good wifi in the reception and bar areas.
AA Lodge has an incredible location! Just a few kilometres from kimana gate, and with stunning views of Kilimanjaro from across the property! The cottage we stayed at was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. They had a lot of choice in food for each meal and it was very tasty! We saw some beautiful birds and small animals within the property during our stay.

this is my second time here. i preferred the tent over the cottage. the staff was lovely, food is good and the proximity to the park perfect. my only complaints are no hot water, especially coming from a safari when you’re covered in dust and i’d have liked our driver to eat with us.

United StatesEven though the staff was very friendly, some were not knowledgeable in our needs, and there seemed to be a mis-communication at times. The rooms are in serious need of upgrading, and please don't be afraid to place in the room more then one towel per guest. You should provide a face towels, hand towels, area carpet/rugs, wooden bathroom countertops are spoiled and rotting, my bed was very uncomfortable with a sunken in mattress in the middle, pillows were old and not thick enough or firm. The food was just okay, I feel that you should find a few other selections then just the same kenyan/or african foods, learn how to make other things that are more compatible for those coming from around the world to your lodge. The distance to walk from the front area to a room is very difficult for the elderly, and should not be placed at the back of the property unless you provide transportation for them and their luggage. A wheel chair is not the answer when you accommodate those with disabilities. It would be nice if you had a gift shop again selling items such as bags, aprons, blankets, local jewelry, postcards etc....
The staff was friendly. The look when entering the property and front entrance is welcoming for the experience of being on a safari trip and or coming to the "bush" seeking a safari. Our guests enjoyed the dip in the pool after a long day on safari.
