How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Nearly 2 days breakdown of electricity, 1 night dark room, 36h no AC, no WiFi , only intermediate current , no charge! Manager spoke only diffuse because of some refund for inconvenience (at the end at least boat transfer Amanda Airport free). Electricity problem only this hotel - direct nearby everything ok, so no systemic problem. Stuff was trying to support in this situation, but restitution lasted 1 1/2 days. Beside this (but serious) I would recommend!

The breakfast was very poor and the service was very slow. The air-conditioning system in the room worked well, but the problem was that it was directed straight onto the bed, which was uncomfortable when we were lying down.

Verified reviewWe had a fantastic stay! The hotel is in a perfect location—close to everything we needed. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the amenities were top-notch. What really made the experience stand out was the warm and friendly staff who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Communication with the host was also excellent—responsive, clear, and helpful throughout. Highly recommended!
On the flipside, I was a bit disappointed that the room didn’t have a kettle or an iron box, which would have added to the convenience. It also would have been a nice bonus if the accommodation had a pool. That said, these were minor issues in an otherwise excellent experience.

I had a very bad experience during my stay. The room was extremely dirty upon arrival, and during the night it got even worse – the room became full of insects, which I believe were woodworms coming from the wooden bed. We tried calling the reception multiple times, but nobody answered, even though we had been assured that someone would be available during the night. This is unacceptable. The next day, we were moved to another apartment, but unfortunately that one was also very dirty. Overall, I was extremely dissatisfied not only with the condition of the rooms, but also with the lack of support from the staff, who clearly didn’t care about our complaints and made no real effort to solve the issue. I do not recommend this place.

Verified reviewConvenient location for anyone that wants to have a fully immersed cultural experience.We enjoyed the day and evening walks around Lamu town.It was also pretty quiet at night allowing room for a good nights sleep.The breakfast was good considering what we paid...the tropical fruits were tasty.

Verified reviewFurnished with swahili furnitures so the ambiance was very Swahili, the room I booked was quite spacious.
It was not well maintained, I found dead roaches in the room, so it's not clean. I'm not sure if the linen was fresh. The worst thing was the AC wasn't working, no cool air, only some air. I barely slept during my stay as it was super hot and humid in the room. Too many furnitures in the room so it made it very cramped.
