With our son, we spent 3 nights in this small hotel located on the Kampot river, which consists of a few bungalows around a small swimming pool. Each of the 2 rooms we booked was clean and beautifully decorated. In addition, bottles of water were provided every morning. The reception is very welcoming, located in a flowery and well-maintained garden, where you will feel at ease, in a peaceful setting. It's possible to eat there almost at any time of the day, and although the menu is a little limited, the dishes are good and copious. Breakfasts, which can be ordered the night before, can be served in Continental, American, Australian versions, on the terrace, by the swimming pool, which saves time to be ready at the times agreed for excursions.

The distance from town means it can be tricky to book tulktuks. If we stayed here again we would probably rent motos, which I believe the accom can arrange. The pool, although lovely, does need a good clean as there is algae build up on the tiles.

Gecko Village is a little oasis set right on the river, just outside of Kampot city. The bungalows are comfortable and the property has a peaceful, serene feel. The food is delicious and well priced. They have two very friendly dogs and a lovely atmosphere.

- No hot water in the shower - Very far away from the town, you need to take tuktuks all the time or rent a motorbike. We wanted to rent bikes, but it was impossible as the surrounding is full of dogs.

The location right by the river was beautiful and to be honest the pictures didn't do it justice. Breakfast was very good, taking it by the river was a delight. We could canoe on the river and get scooters delivred at the hotel so all in all a great experience.

English proficiency of some reception staff limited. Overall, I didn't like Kampot, found the city dirty and this applies overall to my impression of Cambodia. It used to be nice but no more. Garbage dumped everywhere. Dirty smells, forest fires, land clearing. But Gecko Village at least offers a clean place with peace & quiet.

Location, in quiet surroundings at a river side facing mangroves, Good for those who want to get away from it all. Cottages pleasant, mine with a mountain view. Got sick with food poisoning and used my stay to recover. Staff helpful with arranging tuktuk and visit to the clinic in Kampot.

great place. so quiet, only your thoughts and bird songs. i had forgotten what quiet was. Pool is usually very well kept, it was not tip top this time but im sure its just that time. anyways the river i prefer to any pool anyways,,,,

Rats in ceiling and staff refused to removed them. No sleep for us or oir friends! Breakfast usually late by 1 hr. Mold on ceiling corners everywhere

- maintaneance of the property: the terraces should be renewed in the near future - there were holes in the wall of our bungalow and we heard weird noises sometimes (haven't seen an animal though) - staff was nice but could hardly speak English

The swimming pool was not available for use, there was no Wi-Fi in the room or public areas. It was very quiet, there was no music, no atmosphere. Low quality food and drinks, poorly trained staff.
