Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaI can't think of anything apart from the service at the sea-facing bar in the low tier. The staff were helpful but would need a bit of training. Those working upstairs were fabulous! On the whole, it was a great experience but a few small things could be improved for an even better experience.
This was the third time I stayed at the Galle Face Hotel. I have always enjoyed the scenic views and the hospitality. It is one of those old-school hotels that offer a lot of class and grace. I will definitely return for another stay!

United Arab EmiratesI couldn’t fault it….loved our stay.
I felt relaxed and looked after from the moment we arrived. I loved the ambience and the view from our balcony was superb. Breakfast was a leisurely affair with an excellent array of food. We will definitely stay here again….fabulous spot.

SwitzerlandSince it's a historic hotel, some facilities feel a bit dated (e.g. single glaze windows, bathtubs) but that in some ways add to the charm.
It's a unique landmark hotel in an an unbeatable location with stunning ocean views! Staying here is an unparalleled experience. Some of the rooms are epic in size, and there are lovely common spaces to lounge, read or socialise.

United KingdomPoor service from restaurant and Firebeach staff was very disappointing. Drinks forgotten, reservation ’missing’, service slow, basic requests misunderstood. Training is needed here - you should not rely on your reputation alone.
An iconic hotel that delivers on every level of luxury and traditional opulence … until it comes to restaurant and Firebeach staff … Pool area needs an overhaul, decking area dangerous. Pool toilets some of the worst in the Capital.

AustraliaThere aas music playing very loud late at night until at least midnight, which seemed to be coming from the hotel bar but also another restaurant nearby. the hotel bar The hotel was a little run down in places, the area around the pool had some holes in the pavement which was a bit dangerous.
The hotel is beautiful with lots of different areas and restaurants to explore. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I checked in after midnight and this was not a problem. My room was huge and very comfortable. The location on the galle face is great and the views of the ocean are amazing. I spent most of the days I was there in the hotel relaxing by the pool.

United KingdomThe smallest double bed in Sri Lanka! Some updates due for the room & bathroom but very clean. The bar by the pool serves food - beware, the service charge is not included in the menu prices (as was the case in all of the other places we have stayed) . (Shame the neon words on the mural beside the pool were not all lit as designed- looked tacky & uncared for). My fish had been cooked twice ( it was verging on burnt and very hard crumb ), whilst my husband’s was fine. Maybe just trying to get away with it . They did cook me a fresh piece, which was very nice, but it meant we ate at different times. No apology though or any gesture of recompense. The hotel has a huge throughput of guests so I guess they don’t need to.
Beautiful old hotel with a long history - the little museum (including Prince Philip’s first car) is very interesting. Our room was a little tired but with old- world charm. The breakfast and welcome from the staff was exceptional. The salt water pool was super - long and relatively deep from end to end. Great for adults. Superb place to watch the sunset.

United KingdomNothing but praise.
On our first visit to Sri Lanka, we wanted a Colombo base for two nights to get over long flights, tune-in to the country and gain context for the rest of our visit. A friend reminisced misty-eyed about ‘chili-dusted cashews and freezing cold beer in the Travellers’ Bar at sunset while the national flag is lowered to the skirl of the bagpipes’ – we booked Galle Face Hotel (GFH) immediately! GFH driver Angelo met us at Colombo airport and whisked us to the hotel and our excellent 2nd floor sea-facing room with double balcony. The room was superb – cool, spacious, quiet, with wonderful views across the hotel grounds and sea. The hotel has every facility and we particularly enjoyed the large, filtered-seawater swimming pool. The public rooms are airy and comfortable. The breakfast buffet to suit all tastes is varied and substantial and we had superb dinners at the main buffet and at the hotel’s funky King of the Mambo fusion restaurant. GFH’s site could not be better for exploring Colombo on foot. We tuk-tuk’d to the Gangaramaya religious centre then walked up to the cool Fort area via the bustling Pettah district and the HSBC ATM on Dr Colvin da Silva Road. All fascinating with a good sense of safety. Finally, GFH introduced us to friendly staff and levels of service that would set the standard for other hotels to live up to on our tour. We were really well looked after by all but would especially like to mention front desk officer Malit who went out of his way twice with long phone calls to allay some confusion which had arisen with our next hotel. We are very grateful to all for your warm welcome to Sri Lanka. In sum, GFH is deservedly the grande dame of the Colombo seafront but, instead of resting on her laurels, continues to offer the highest levels of contemporary comfort and entertainment. We recommend GFH very strongly indeed.

AustraliaI wrote to the hotel via Booking.com on 27/05/2023, 29/05/2023 and 9/08/2023 enquiring whether we can have adjoining rooms as I had booked two rooms for our family. I only received a reply on 9/02/2024 (day before our check-in) apologising for the delay in replying. Taking eight months to respond is not acceptable.
The breakfast was excellent with Sri Lankan and western varieties. The rooms were spacious and clean. The location was excellent with few steps to the beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the lady Rathnamali from housekeeping was very helpful.

BelgiumThe music - intrusive cheesy music for breakfast and around the pool. The first night, the Western style disco music at the poolbar was very loud, so that we needed ear plugs to fall asleep. A pity because the sound of the waves of the ocean next to the hotel is so beautiful.
Hotel with a lot of charme in fantastic location. The large saltwater pool was great for swimming.

United StatesThe wait staff on the veranda was less than attentive, forgetful and appeared to be unhappy in their work.
The room overlooked the center court with a magnificent ocean view. The pool was clean and the attendant was attentive. 50 years since my last visit, when I lived for a month in the Old colonial Gallface. I thought the still visible old charm of dark woods and modern convenient updates mixed well. Loved the new open salt pool, as the old cement salt pool was small and dark with its coverings.
