Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

United KingdomWe loved our stay at this lovely guest house. Only minutes from the beach and many restaurants and bars by the beach. The family who owned it is lovely and the breakfast of fresh fruits, local yoghurt with honey and eggs was a highlight for us.

BelgiumWalking to Mirissa Beach not so nice as the main road is full of traffick.
A very nice hotel really, with much comfort, beautiful decoration and dedicated staff. The nearby Turtle beach was great and clean - an excellent place to swim (only after rains the water is apparently less clean). More eplensive than most stays in Sri Lanka, but fair for international standards and worth it.

United States of AmericaThis guesthouse was perfect and the staff/family was friendly and helpful in their suggestions and making travel arrangements for us. The rooms were private from one another, with small front patios to sit on. The mosquitos do come around 5pm! The pool is lovely and we used it on a daily basis. The included breakfast was small but adequate. It is located across the street from “turtle beach” which was convenient but small and a bit crowded. The location was good for walking to a variety of restaurants, (Concept La Mer, and 101 very simple for great grilled fish)and for the hike up to Coconut Tree Hill, the viewpoint that overlooks the water …go at sunset and have a cocktail!

United KingdomThe place is just delightful! We spent a gorgeous three days here as part of our honeymoon and the staff really went above and beyond to make it feel special - they even decorated our room with a homemade honeymoon banner. The location is perfect with lots of beaches within easy walking distance, turtle beach is right across the way so we managed to swim with turtles one morning and be back in time for a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended staying here!

Morning Star has loads of character, location is great, close to beach, restaurants and supermarkets. Breakfast was delicious and generous, especially the coffee & fruit platter. The pool area with sunlounges, bean bags and umbrellas was always inviting and relaxing. Best of all was the staff, alway happy, smiling and courteous, they could not do enough for me. Thank you.

SwitzerlandShame we booked only 4 nights!
Although the guesthouse is located on the main road the guests rooms are really quiet as they are behind the family house and the dining area. Pool is surrounded with palms and fruit trees which made our stay really relaxing - perfect for nature watching! We had a spacious room on the grand floor with a modern bathroom. Included breakfast was always really tasty and fresh. The family who owns this place works really hard to make their guests comfortable and welcome. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for everything!

FinlandThe only thing I missed, was fresh juice in the beakfast.
Morning Star was really cozy guest house. The family and the staff were extremely helpful with our requests. Nice pool area and big room. We requested a room near the pool in upper floor because it was more peaceful than near the road – and we got a separate access to the pool area from our room! Breakfast was nice with fresh fruits, eggs, toast, homemade yogurt or Sri Lankan breakfast. We tried them both as we stayed for four nights. Tuk-tuks can be found outside the guest house, there's a short distance to different restaurants. We recommend La Mer restaurant nearby. We enjoyed our stay a lot.

SloveniaWe actually liked everything about this hotel. The location is great, just across the street from a Turtle beach, close to restaurants and supermarket. It has a great and clean swimming pool, the rooms are comfortable with spacious bathroom. The whole place is spotless clean. The stuff is really nice and helpful, trying really hard to make your stay pleasant. Breakfast was just delicious, great selection of fruits, eggs, pancakes, amazing homemade yoghurt and chocolate milk for the kids. We definitely recommend this place and if we ever come to Sri Lanka again, we would definitely choose this hotel!

We loved everything about this property, the owner and staff are friendly and helpful, the room was spacious with an excellent bathroom, the breakfasts are plentiful, the pool is relaxing and the location is brilliant as it is literally just across the road from a brilliant beach with fantastic snorkelling, if you need a Tuk Tuk just ask Sarena the maid to get you her brother, he can’t do enough to make your stay in Marissa memorable.

FinlandOur room’s door lock was not working properly - we were able to lock the door but it was still a bit broken. One of the staff member (older lady) mentioned quite many times that his relatives are drivers and can drive us in case we need a ride. This could be mentioned on behalf of the hotel, but as the lady brought it up quite many times it did not feel helpful but pressuring.
The breakfast was very good and the staff truly helpful!

Anura, and his wonderful family, made us so welcome, nothing was too much trouble. We were originally only booked to stay three nights, however we ended up changing our plans, staying for a full ten days, as the hospitality, friendliness and fantastic service, totally surpassed our expectations. We stayed in the Queens Room, which was really spacey, comfy and clean, with a lovely bathroom. ( really great power shower),handy fridge, with a relaxing chairs, on the large balcony. Wi-Fi, and air conditioning worked well. Our son, stayed in one of the garden rooms, down near the pool, which was a very decent size, with the same comfort and great facilities as we had. Breakfast was delicious, with an exotic selection of fruits, homemade yoghurt, toast, and choice of eggs if you wanted. All served with a lovely smile. On our last day Anura and his children made us some tasty pancakes which was a real kind surprise. The Morning Star has a really decent size pool, which was kept clean, also has a fun elephant style shower! Some really nice features around the hotel, and it was great to see a peacock, strutting around with all its fine plumage. We also spotted a couple of monkeys, who were curious, but did not bother us at all. Location was perfect... across the road to the beach, and within walking distances to restaurants and shops etc. A big shout out to the lovely House keeper who kept everything spotless, loved practising her English, and a very engaging personality. We were really sad to leave The Morning Star... we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.....and would love to return again, sometime soon. Thank you to Anura and all his lovely team, for making our holiday so memorable.
