Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyI was really happy that I decided to stay there. The owner and his family are adorable. They were carrying about me, and organised for me to visit the temples and the transport to move on after. The food in the hotel is very delicious. All food is cooking naturally. And Saturday and Sunday there is a market next to the hotel. We went there, and the owner explain me many things about fishing and agriculture in Sri Lanka. I've learned a lot about Sri Lanka's nature.

Czech RepublicWe stayed here for 3 nights. Our hosts helped us with planning the visit to the monuments. We highly recommend booking a tuk tuk ride for the evening ceremony, it is an unforgettable experience. Thank you very much also for the ride to the bus station and catching the bus to Dambulla on time when it was just leaving. If you don't know where to stay, we recommend booking accommodation here.

United KingdomAll ok.
Ideal location just up the road from the bus station - even with heavy backpacks this is a very short walk. The owners are very well organised, and can arrange tuktuk tours and safaris etc - or there are tuktuks right outside if you want to do it yourself. There is a big supermarket about 2 minutes walk up the main road which is very handy. Our room was very clean, with a quiet and efficient aircon unit. It had a mosquito net, and the shower was good and had hot water. Order dinner by 5pm as it is freshly cooked - and the quality is good! Just down the street opposite the bus station are a group of cafes that are actually pretty good and very cheap if you want an alternative eating place. The bill was itemised, with no surprises and the owners are very friendly and provided us with some really useful information that made our stay in Anuradhapura easy and enjoyable.

GermanyEverything was great, nothing to complain about!
Kalum and his wife are the nicest people. They helped us with everything and were able to recommend us a lot of places. The dinner and breakfast was great as well! For their meals/drinks/ice they use filtered water. The rooms were very clean & the green roof terrace is stunning. The Hotel can order you a driver and guide for Anuradhapura. That was also a great experience, especially going to the sacred tree Sri Maha Bodhi in the evening.

ItalyIt's a family hotel on the main street, the owners are very honest, welcoming and help you to plan everything in details. The food and juices are fresh and tasty. The living area is nice and aired and there is a rooftop terrace with a great view of the temple. Absolutely a great place where to rest and chill.

CanadaEverything about our stay at Sacred City was wonderful. The room was clean and comfortable. The seating areas for eating and hanging out were situated amongst many plants and felt like a secret oasis in the city. The meals we had here were some of the best we had in all Sri Lanka. The best part of the experience was the hosts. They are extremely kind and welcoming. They really care about their guests and will go above and beyond to make sure you leave happy. Our time touring Anuradhapura was great, but it's our hosts that will be the most memorable.

NetherlandsI have no idea.
A hidden gem just behind the main street. At the entrance you are welcomed by a crocodile fish, four turtles, and the family's happy wagging dog. The hotel is beautifully decorated with tropical plants and has lovely sitting areas. The rooms are super clean, spacious and the shower is lovely and hot. But the very best thing about this place is the family itself. What incredibly friendly people who go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The lady of the house is an incredible cook and I would definitely recommend breakfast and dinner here. They also arranged a three day tour (evening tour to the Ruwanweliseya stupa, full day anuradhapura and sunrise tour to Mihantale), for a very reasonable price. The guide and driver (and also best friend of owner) was also such a friendly man who taught us all sorts of things about the area but also about life in Sri Lanka. I really can't recommend this beautiful place from these wonderful people enough.

GermanyOriginally we had the double room booked but turned out that it has no window at all (wasn't clear from description), we could upgrade against a cost of 4$. Breakfast is a bit more expensive compared to other places we've been and coffee/tea costs an extra 1$ (the breakfast was very good though).
Could upgrade to the balcony room which was very nice, very tasty breakfast (paid extra for that), lovely staff and perfectly central location. Despite what I write below, it's good value for money. Can recommend.

We just had a perfect stay. The welcome was amazing, they prepared us an amazing juice plus they gave us a super good explanation on what we could do in the city, including a map with all the key points of the Sacred City. They arranged everything for us :) We also had dinner there and the food was wonderful. That’s the place! The room was comfy, clean and with a nice warm shower!

TaiwanThe room was basic but modern and spotless! They provided Anuradhapura tour. The itinerary was pre-set and the tuk tuk driver took you to all attractions so I didn’t need to worry about anything. The family also cooked delicious breakfast and dinner. After checkout, the owner dropped me off at the bus station and accompanied me to the bus onboard.
