How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewLovely accommodation, with a large garden, enjoyed doing my yoga on the lake edge or on the garden. Pool and accommodation was clean and well kept. Food was tasty and good size. Prasad and his family do a great job. I enjoyed an ayurvedic massage and we did the sunrise boat trip.
Massage was a little more expensive than other places and we got bit by mosquitos sitting outside our accommodation so use repellent

Verified reviewThe garden and the view on the mangrove are stunning The room is clean and well equipped The bed was confortable Hot water
- The dinner. We paid 2900 rps/pp for a vegetarian curry (same price as the one with the fish…) and we didn’t find it tasteful. We’ve had way better curries for way cheaper around. - the lack of privacy. We didn’t have a suite but a room on the ground floor. While the room is clean and well equipped, you share a tiny wooden door that isn’t really tinted with your neighbors which means that you have light in your room when they turn on their light and that you hear absolutely everything about their conversations. - although the manager is really nice, we found him pushy. We politely told him, several times, that no we didn’t want to have another lunch, or another dinner or an organized activity by him as we just wanted to be on our own, he insisted and asked why. I don’t feel comfortable to justify myself when I decline an offer. Some tourists enjoy being managed, we just enjoy a quiet room and being on our own without being over sollicitated. This had the consequences that we left the entire day so we didn’t have to justify the fact that we booked a boat tour with someone else. When we came back, he asked what we did, we told him and again he asked why we didn’t book with him… we booked a room, not a guided tour. While I understand that the manager tries to be nice, he also has to understand that not every one likes oversollicitation 🙂 Edit : I’ve been contacted by message by the manager to delete my previous comment as I did a mistake about the price of the djnner. I wont delete it as I’m not writing a bad comment, I’m just fair and honest about my experience (7 is not a bad review!). But to be fair I will change the price of the dinner; it was 2900 and not 3900 rps). (I have the screenshot of the demand about deleting my comment…)

Verified reviewThe family are just wonderful. The owner is an incredible cook and always has a smile on her face. She knows all about plants and remedies and is full of all sorts of fascinating information. The daughter was super friendly. I went out on their little rowboat three times because it was so incredible. Breakfast in the morning was really magical. If you stay here you absolutely have to do this. See the lovely fruit bats, the flying foxes, and all sorts of animals. I really loved my stay here . The pool was a plus.
I can't think of anything negative.

Verified reviewNice clean and big room. Nice view. 5 minutes walking to Lunuganga property of Geoffrey Bawa. Nice rice and curry adapted to our wishes. Watching birds and giant bats, big varan and other wildlife from the room or the balcony is amazing. Quiet area in village atmosphere and not busy sea side resort feeling. They arranged a very confortable cab with a nice driver for us.
Low pressure in the shower and we never had hot water. No generator so no fan, AC and fridge during power cut (which are common in Sri Lanka). No cleaning room (or at least empty the trash, check toilet paper, tea bags, cleaning mugs service) Low wifi. Lot s of staff members doesn't speak basic English. Nice pontoon on the lagoon BUT not maintained so you wonder if you will fall in the water. Short path to the main entrance is a mess. A fan would have been nice on the dining, breakfast area (it s really hot there)

Verified reviewLovely guesthouse right next door to the Geoffrey Bawa Lunganga garden. The setting is beautiful, so many flowers and birds, a nice pool and a lovely view of the lagoon from the lunch area. I took the early morning boatride on the lagoon, complete with a wonderful breakfast onboard - such a treat. Prasad and his family looked after me really well, helping me sort out my onward transport and checking I had arrived safely.

Verified reviewBeautiful garden. Delicious and fresh food with most ingredients from the garden. Nice view of the lake at the end of the garden. Cooking classes offered by the lake by Kudulu (the hostess) if you are intersted. I joined one which lasted like 4 hours and we cooked quite a few delicious dishes. Kudulu is a great cook and she explains all the steps during the cooking class. I also did a river tour with them in the morning which was quiet nice. You can see many birds. Swimming ool was a bonus in the heat. Hosts were very kind.
Since the area is wetland, there were many insistent mosquitos that kept biting me even on top of my clothes when outside (even i used mosquito repellent). My room was very noisy. First night was the noise of the water pump machine of the room above me. Second night the A/C of the next door room was added to the noise. Their A/C's outer engine part was installed on my room''s wall outside and when they put on the A/C, the noise in my room was unbearable. So unfortunatley, I had to leave the third day as it was not possible for me to sleep. Hosts offered to upgrade me to another room but I did not want to risk another night. So if you are looking for peace and quiet choose your room carefully. Finally, keep in mind that this place is not in the center so you will need a tuk tuk everytime you want to go to town but this can easily be arranged by the hosts.

Verified reviewFrom minutes of arriving, and being shown around the property i couldnt stop smiling, i felt i had walked into a little oasis of peace and relaxation. The room i had booked was still occupied, the guests asking to stay another night, so i was kindly upgraded free of charge to the poolside villa. The lush gardens were full of flowers and it was easy to sit and watch the squirrels, birds and in the evenings, the fruit bats. The pool was much appreciated during the heat of the day, and you could always go and sit down by the lake, at the "secret spot" where they do the cooking classes, which in itself was one of the best experiences i have had in sl. The food here is also some of the best i have ever tasted (and ive travelled extensively in sl). The owners prasad and wife kumudu made me feel so welcome as soon as i arrived, were easy to chat with, helped with arranging sightseeing and after a few days i was made to feel part of the family. They personalised the cooking class to recipes i was dying to learn, and the weather rained off my boat trip twice, but on my last morning we made it and prasad made one of the most delicious iced teas i have ever had! Coming at the tail end of the monsoon season i had rain follow me daily. Here was the first place it eased off and was surprisingly less humid, the breeze from the lake making things really pleasant. I was genuinely sad to leave, but also happy to know i have found a special place to return to again
the fact i hadn't booked for longer? 😊
Thanks so much your valuable feedback us.
