Don't judge a book by its cover!

Although I gave full point for location, there are a few points to note. 1. Entrance is down allies that aren't lit up. The ground is uneven 2. Can be very difficult to navigate especially for older people and can initially feel daunting 3. You will need someone to show you where you are going so I suggest booking your taxi through the riad and they will meet you 4. Go with an open mind, when you enter the riad it's a different world from the randomness outside When you find your bearings it's a piece of cake and the main square is 5mins away. We had to do a few trial runs as it's like like a rabbit warren of allies

The riad was very pretty inside. The saying goes 'don't judge a book by its cover' well that is very true of Medina living! The 2 staff were lovely!! Ismel and Yassin were very friendly and sorted everything from camel riding, to breakfast, boarding passes and guiding us through the labyrinth of streets to make sure we had an amazing and welcoming time!

Riad Dar Zaya was a perfect place to stay while explorinng the city if marrakesh. The staff were lovely. Ismael always made time to talk to us and even woke up early to serve us early breakfast on the days we went on excursions. We had a lovely stay and highly recommend this riad!

The staff was nice, but the manager is extremely rude & was rarely at the property. Online it clearly says you can pay with credit card, but he was demanding that I could only pay in cash. He spoke with me about this over the phone & was insisting even though I said I have no cash & was having issues using my credit card to withdrawal cash. It was handled so poorly & I couldn't believe he spoke to a guest like that.

Pretty rooms, & central location. Breakfast was tasty first day, but then I realized it was just the same types of bread each morning. And sometimes the leftovers from the day before just microwaved.

The experience was very different under new management. Most staff on sight did not speak English (although very sweet!), so most suitable for independent travellers. Lacking the luxurious touches I expected at this price range.

The location is fantastic and the decor is charming. Staff was friendly and kind.

    - VERY friendly and helpful staff who speak excellent English and French - Only 3 suites in the riad so we basically had the whole place to ourselves - Very good breakfast - Wifi available throughout hotel - Beautiful rooms - Location in the heart of the medina but you can organize transportation with the hotel

None that I can think of...

From the immediate, professional responses to email questions, to explaining our transfers, to setting up a day trip to the Atlas mountains, Audrey was the utmost professional and I knew our trip to Marrakech would be amazing. We just returned from our trip today and wanted to let everyone know that if you are thinking of a trip to this energetic city, you must stay here. There are 4 rooms in a quite oasis, but right in the center of the Medina. We don't normally do transfers, but based on other reviews we went ahead and booked this. Totally worth it as the Riad is not easy to find initially. With that said, Audrey makes sure to take you out and walk around with you so you feel comfortable returning on your own. Be prepared to buy the map that Audrey has for sale at the Riad. This map has everything...we had 3 other maps and they weren't even close to accurate. The map Audrey has for sale was mapped by a local so all walkways are mapped. We did the cooking class with Miriam at the Riad and LOVED it! We spent the morning shopping in the Medina for all ingredients and then cooked a wonderful meal that we could not come close to finishing! If you have time, do this! Great time! Great experience! Great food! This was a highlight for us! Traveling through the souks, purchasing just like a local...amazing! We stayed in the room right off the courtyard. Never were we woken up by other guests. Even those who were leaving early were always quite, and that is due to the team here making sure everyone is taken care of. Our room was beautiful and cleaned everyday. Breakfast was a feast! Easily could go until late afternoon without eating again, but of course we could not do that as we wanted to experience all the delicious foods. One day we did a very long day trip to Telout and when we returned, we decided to have dinner at the Riad. It was one of the best meals.

Very beautiful Riad with original features, one of the most attractive ones I have stayed in (I have stayed in quite e few!). Audrey was really friendly and we felt like she treated us as friends, she was very genuine and laid-back, we enjoyed our chats with her. The room was very comfortable and quiet even though it was on the ground floor, it was clean and the decor was interesting. Breakfast was excellent, better than all the other riads, nothing was too much trouble. I will be hurrying back!!!!!

Our stay in Marrakech was wonderful but in fact the best of all was this incredible riad. Service, cleanliness, decor, location, character ... incredibly good. I travel all over the world and this riad was one of the best surprises ever. Special thanks to Paolo for giving us a bit of itself and its history reflected in this superb location. I strongly recommend to anyone wanting a few days of dream in this oasis of Marrakech. Note 20 on a scale of 0 to 10.

    Everything was truly wonderful.

The staff at the riad are the most helpful, kind, and friendly staff we have run into on our honeymoon! They go out of their way to make you comfortable and make sure you enjoy all aspects of your trip- even those that don't necessarily concern your stay at the riad. Audrey went out of her way several times to help us in Marrakech to make our experience the best it could be. At one point after we had gotten very lost and were feeling a bit demoralized/nervous about making it back to the riad without getting lost again- she came and met us to walk us back! She also walked us out several times to help us figure out exact directions to restaurants, taxis, etc. (We don't have the best sense of direction! Ha). Mariam met us each day we arrived back at the riad with cold fresh juices and cookies and fresh water. Our room was always perfectly kept by the time we returned, and we couldn't have asked for a more comfortable stay.

I must say, I really wanted to keep this a secret to myself so that when I go back to Marrakech the riad has a spare room for me...but I promised Paolo and Ale that I would write an honest review so here I am. As soon as I booked riad dar zahia, Paolo sent me a detailed message and I already knew I was in good hands. But ofcourse, going to a continent I have never traveled to made me worried a bit. However, as soon as I landed at the airport, the taxi driver that Paolo arranged for us, and the guide that took us to the riad from the wall was so sweet and welcoming that I felt safe and at home. Once we got to the riad, Paolo, Ale and the staff welcomed us with the biggest smiles, complimentary mint tea, and explained the city just enough, leaving some room for us to find the mysteries on our own. We got the keys to the main entrance, which allowed us to go back to the riad during the day, rest, freshen up any time we wanted. The location was perfect as well, not too close to the busy Fna square, but close enough that we can always go back and orient ourselves when we got lost. I must say, being a designer, I also fell in love with the architecture and the decor of the riad. Paolo and Ale take very good care of the place, keeping the fascinating original architecture but reformed to meet westernised travellers needs as well. The rooms were so romantic, filled with Moroccan furniture and accessories. I think the riad, and the people there was one of the main reasons why I fell in love with Morocco and Marrakech. I am so lucky that I got to stay there, and that I met such great people right away. Again, thanks to Paolo, Ale and the lovely staff there. My experience in Morocco would not have been the same without you.

I wouldn't say we didn't like this as in fairness to the staff they offered to sort transfers and they also told us about taxi's but in retrospect the transfer was expensive so we wouldn't chose this again, now we are more knowledegable about Marrakech we would haggle for a taxi :) but for the first visit it was a relief to have everything organised for us.

This was such a beautiful building really cared for and the staff were amazing, so welcoming and friendly nothing was too much trouble. We eat at the Riad the first night and it was the best meal we had in Marrakech - outstanding! So we eat there on the Sunday too. We were given options for excursions ans spa's but never pressured. We would certainly return.
