    We loved it all!

We chose Kasbah Mohayut for its location with the famous sand dunes right outside the door. We are so pleased we did. We travelled in July and our car clocked 50 degrees C when we arrived! We walked alone into the dunes late afternoon and again mid-morning. Fabulous experience. The shifting sand was scorching hot so be sure to wear appropriate footwear. The hotel itself is a true haven. Many shaded sitting areas, great swimming pool, excellent meals by candlelight, air-conditioner struggled to keep us cool in our large and comfortable room, small fridge was appreciated. Wifi okay but not great. Staff were extremely helpful: even arranged to do our laundry in just a few hours.

The quality of the dinner could be considerably better. It was not bad but no more than that. Something more attention, culinary love and flavors would enchant miracles.

The staff was good overall. The guys in the service at the restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful. For example, it was no problem to have breakfast half an hour earlier than the usual time. Thanks! Our room was user friendly and equipped with a spacious and decent shower.

We are used to "family-run", "home-away-from-home" places and this is a hotel with a "colder" atmosphere. However they were all very nice and helpful. You need private transport to get to the hotel as it is not in Merzouga, but in Hassilabieb

The hotel is located right at the edge of the dunes, which is amazing! The facilities of the hotel and all the common spaces are great. They arranged really good value desert trips including dromedary trek and sleeping in a jaima for 50 euros the night.

We decided to spend a bit more money when we got to Merzouga...
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple

It started with our room. We had booked a balcony (or I think they referred to it as a terrace). It was not a terrace, it was an enclosed room with a small window and a rugged couch and mini fridge. They did allow us to change rooms to a nicer one that did not have a terrace so that was good. We got a massive room, it looked clean, good shower, ok decor. Then, in the middle of the night it started to smell. They must have been having a sewer issue. They did try to fix it but the smell came back and when we got back from the camel trek it was horrible. Also, leading up to the camel trek we couldn't spend anytime in our room. They comped us our dinner and that was greatly appreciated it was just hard to accept because this was supposed to be the "nice place" we stayed in. Now for the camel trek- it was nothing like their pictures on the website suggest. We are both geologists and work in camps regularly and are quite familiar with "roughing it" and camp logistics. We were also not expecting something glamorous but more unique. It started with our guide on his cell in the sand dunes- too funny! Way to spoil the setting (you really don't travel far and the lateral extent of the dunes is not great but their heights are impressive and when you are in them you do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere). We ended up being the only ones in the camp which was strange but fine (plus our guide). The camp was run down, the tents were clean but you could just tell no one was really doing anything extra - it needed some TLC- it really looked neglected. When we arrived he basically pointed us at the tallest dune way off yonder and said-there you will see the best views of the sunset. So we wondered away- not to there because we would have never made it in time! But enjoyed the views on our own. Our guide definitely seemed a bit out of it. He also told us that sunrise was at 530am.

We decided to spend a bit more money when we got to Merzouga and get a nice place for one night and a good camel trek experience (we had been travelling around the Atlas Mtns.) but we were disappointed with what we got. We had lovely servers for dinner- they were excellent! The food was also very tasty, some of the best we had. The center garden area was also very nice at night to have dinner in.

The breakfast was just ok. I would have liked more fruit and less bread. There are rooftop terraces but there is no seating and so they aren't as appealing as they might be. We had plenty of time to enjoy the desert on our camping trip so it was nice to stay in the hotel's garden and poolside during our day there. I would absolutely recommend Kasbah Mohayut.

We spent 2 nights - one at the hotel itself and then one in the desert. The staff are very friendly, and speak a remarkable number of languages. The rooms are very nice -comfortable and nice decor. There are many places to sit and read or talk with a fellow traveller. There is a pretty garden area where meals are served, and the pool is in a small separate courtyard with a few rooms around it. There were 25 of us on the desert trip. When I realized this fact, I wondered whether it would spoil our experience. Surprisingly, this number seemed intimate and lovely. I now feel that it would have been less appealing if we were on our own. The hotel is popular with tour companies so there were a couple of groups - about 12 people each - staying at the hotel. (The hotel has 2 desert camps and they did not pair individuals with either group.)this isn't an 8 room guest house and you may be there with 15 high school students. I am not sure if any of the hotels on the edge of the desert are small. They all seemed large from the road Our family found it easy to be separate and to relax - we very much enjoyed the whole experience.

We slept one night in the hotel. Unfortunately there were insects coming into our room under the door; and after killing a few I asked the staff for help. They swiftly relocated us to a different (bug-free) room in the middle of the night, explaining that unfortunately due to the summer heat it is a common problem in Merzuoga.

Staying here you will be at the edge of the Sahara, as the sand dunes are literally a few steps away from the door of the hotel. The kasbah itself is very nice, the rooms are big, and it has a great pool with a camel-shaped fountain, which is life-saving during the summer heat. The greatest strenght is the desert. We have booked the overnight camel trip with them, which was the highlight of our trip. It was cloudy so there were only a few stars on the sky at night, but the sunrise was just plain amazing from the top of the sand dunes. The camel station is next to the hotel, so you can be on your camel in a few minutes and head straight to the Sahara. The hotel has its own private camp in the desert, with comfortable tents with real beds. They cook dinner on site, and have some berber music as evening entertainment; it is really cool to be out there! Also as our bus left late in the afternoon, they let us keep the room for free until we had to leave, which was a great added bonus.

Excellent place for relax and expedition into the wilderness. Hotel organizes camel rides and accommodation in your own tents in the desert. Very friendly and helpful staff. Greetings to Idir from the restaurant and camel guides, who were prepared fantastic tajin.

Everything. The service was very friendly, helpful, and prompt. BEAUTIFUL hotel. They offer rides to Merzouga proper, as well as arrange transportation to Rissani. The food is tasty and reasonably priced. Would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Riad Mohayut, very near to the sand dunes, is considered to be one of the best riads in that part. A massive riad with more than 25 rooms makes it popular, is always full n offers fantastic food n wine. Food is made fresh n vegetarian options r plenty and the staff was very friendly n helpful. They also offer a stay in their camps (about an hour away from the riad). Considering that the riad was freezing at night, we did not dare to stay at the camp. Water n heaters worked very well n i m glad we decided to stay at Mohayut. At 75 Euros per night it Mohayut offets good value.
