There wasn't anything we didn't like.

This was the second time we've stayed in this charming! Riad and will always make it our go-to place to stay when we visit beautiful! Essaouira. The Riad is clean and comfortable. It's location is perfect! and the views from the terrace are exceptional!,where a fresh and tasty breakfast is served every morning. Thank you! We booked two triple rooms with single beds and baths, but when we arrived had been allocated one triple room and one double room. Luckily one of the staff members was using the other triple room as their own and were able to move for us, but it was a bit inconvenient and smelt strongly of cigarette smoke for the first day. It would have been nice to have access to a kettle and cups so we could drink tea in the evening.

The rooftop terrace was a lovely setting for breakfast! And speaking of breakfast - it was fresh and truly delicious, much better than the breakfast we had in a Marrakesh riad. The guy who checked us in was really helpful in recommending where we can find a local hammam and where the best shopping was.

Smell in bathroom, plumbing needs some attention

Amazing view from roof, where breakfast was served. In the center of The Medina, walking distance from 'everything'. Traditional Moroccan style and very cozy.

Great location in the medina, and only a quick walk to the beach and the port. Nice breakfast on the roof terrace with a sea view. Room was very spacious and dressing gowns were provided. A heater was provided for the room too, which we used.

The Riad is in an optimal position to explore the Medina and very close to the Ocean. The breakfast on the roof terrace with Ocean views is an amazing experience, the best way to start a day in Essaouira! Omar is very friendly and super helpful, he helped us to plan our visit to the Medina and organise activities during our stay. Definitely recommend!!

A few things that could be brushed up on. While the windows bathe the room in natural light during the day, the lighting gets a bit dim at night, especially in the bathroom. Even with two lights, a brighter option there would be a game-changer. Dimness in the bedroom is fine, though! I understand the Riad's age, and I'm sure it's a common theme across the area. However, a bit of refurbishment in the room, particularly the bathroom, would be a great step. Despite the cleaning efforts, the bathroom's age makes it feel a tad less than pristine. The same goes for the bed – a bit musty for my taste, and the smell even transferred to my fresh PJs (not ideal for the OCD-inclined!). Finally, breakfast starting at 9am might be a tad late for early-bird travelers like myself. But overall, the Riad has a lovely charm that makes it a great base for exploring Essaouira. With a few tweaks here and there, it could remain a top choice for years to come!

Geraldine, the Riad's owner, was a warm welcome wagon, sharing helpful tips about Essaouira that really enriched our stay. Of course, living in the Riad, she has house rules that keep things running smoothly, and I appreciate the clear communication about them. Speaking of smooth, the rooftop view of the sea is absolutely stunning! The Riad's location is perfect, a quick 6-minute stroll to both the port and the taxi station. The common areas are spacious and inviting, with plenty of comfy spots to relax. And bonus points for the fragrant room – a welcome improvement from what I'd read in previous negative reviews! There's even a heater for those chilly Essaouira nights (that sneaky humidity!).

My best piece of advice for staying at Riad Saltana would be to come with any questions to your welcome with Geraldine, listen to her advice and do exactly what she says. We followed her recommendations and had a fantastic time in Essouira, including a lovely dinner at a restaurant she suggested. Breakfast on the roof with a view of the sea was also a particular highlight and we very much appreciated being able to leave our bags at the Riad for our final day.

breakfast outside on the roof was not relaxing due to the heavy wind, at least for us. the day after the breakfast was inside but the chairs and table were too low to be fully relax. Due to the heavy wind, it was not possible to keep windows opne in the room otherwise the door starts to vibrate and make heavy noise.

We recently visited 'magical' Essaouira for the first time and stayed in Riad Saltana and so pleased we did. as it was everything we had hoped for....Charming, comfortable, and clean. Geraldine and her lovely team.... Omar and Souad were fantastic hosts, even serving us an out of hours breakfast to accommodate an early departure flight. When we arrived, Geraldine gave us a very warm welcome and took time to explain how to get around the area. Riad Saltana is in a perfect location within the walls of the Medina, but within easy reach of the beach. The view over the ocean from the rooftop terrace whilst having our breakfast was spectacular. We loved our stay so much we have already planned to return again very soon.

I offered this stay at Riad Saltana to my parents, for my dad's birthday and their anniversary, based on their feedback, they enjoyed their stay, the staff was so nice, the room had everything they needed, the bed was comfortable and breakfast was pretty rich and nutritious, thanks to the staff for taking care of my parents! Would definitely recommend this place.
