I really disliked the concept of the hotel itself, it was frankly a conference centre on ground floor with mass market catering - buffet in evening and at breakfast, felt like a factory. I lost my glasses within one hour of arriving and despite searching everywhere not to be found . The staff are all good. Those in restaurant though could do with more training and better linguistic skills. There was nobody in the bar. Clearly it was just for large groups. Breakfast was nice - bar coffee out of a machine. The size and lay out of the hotel made it one of the least pleasant experiences I have had. This is more about the design and the scale at which it operates. It seems to be catering for groups. I could have been unlucky as I was surrounded by delegates. The location is perfect for old town, but I couldn't wait to leave. Sadly without my glasses!!

the room was huge as was the terrace and bathroom.

The property was not up to cleanliness standards that I would expect of the hotel in the guest rooms. Our toilet seat was broken, bathtub dirty, and walls are in desperate need of a scrub as thugs are stuck to it. The spa and pool area were fantastic though and overall the rooms were comfortable.

The property is literally a few steps away from Old Town which makes is super convenient. It also offers the best view of Old Town and the sea but make sure you ask for a sea view.

We have been "upgraded" to the room in the old part of building, but unfortunately at the first floor, so our "sea view" we have payed for was too bad. The wall from the restaurant was the main thing we were able to see from our room. Terrace, although enormously big, was not very useful, it lacks its own privacy.

Location is perfect, and the pool is very nice. Breakfast, especially coffee, is excellent.

Check in and check out was a chaotic experience; no proper queues, bit of a free for all! Not especially relaxing. Staff were fine - but I wouldn't say they went 'above or beyond.'

Fantastic location with a private beach, and balcony views across the ocean, the old town and the mountains. We stayed in the executive suite - it was roomy, with two spacious balconies.

The girl in the reception probably had a bad day, as she started fighting with my friend, when he asked few questions and People in General were rude. When we came to the hotel it felt very unwelcoming. Breakfast and dinner are included, but I would expect better quality food for these prices. The rooms were modern, big and with a nice view but poor maintenance. The pool is great. Definitely not a 5 stars hotel. Not even 2. Overpriced.

Great location, big rooms. Doesn’t worth the money.

Outside of the Marriott chain, the Avala is one of my favourite hotels. Our room was very spacious with a large, very comfortable bed, sofa, flat screen television, fridge, large balcony, shower, bath and 3 sinks. It overlooked the old town. The swimming pool is pretty and we found that there were lots of sunbeds there and on the beach. Pool towels are oversized and fluffy. WiFi is free everywhere, including the beach. There is so much space within the hotel and places to lounge around if you need to check out but still wait for a later flight. We visited the cocktail bar overlooking the sea, but did not have time to stay, but it looked a lovely location. We were half board and found ample choice, both at breakfast and dinner. There was always fruit and salad, a variety of protein items and desserts. Reception staff were helpful and we never had to wait although the desk did get busy at times. Parking was free and secure immediately outside the hotel. The location is great for visiting Budva, Kotor and Sveti Stefan.

This hotel severally lacked in customer service which was surprising for a hotel of this size. We had an extra guest joining us and we arrived late around 9pm, they charged 80% of the full room rate for an added guest which seemed extremely excessive (an entire second room was only 20 EUR more per night). Then when we asked for a rollaway bed when getting home around 12:30am at the end of the night the front desks response to that and to everything after hours was that they couldn’t do anything or it was really time consuming to follow the process and get access to extra sheets, blankets, towels outside of normal housekeeping hours. For a hotel that size, and the price we were paying that was completely unacceptable. When I asked to speak to the manager on duty they said there wasn’t one and just one on call to only call for emergencies like a fire in the hotel. We then asked to change to getting an entire second room and they said they couldn’t do that either after hours. They kept deferring to the reception desk the next day. Extremely disappointing. Additionally, they don’t use the same towels at the pool/spa and the beach, they won’t accept returns for your towel card if the towels are different which was frustrating at the time when trying to return after hours given the size of the hotel and location of facilities. Again, for the price we’re paying it was a stupid inconvenient policy where guest’s comfort was not prioritized. Lastly, our last day we were asking about the Turkish spa that was included in the steep facilities price we were paying and they said it was only open 4-8pm which was not told to us upon checkin so we were not able to use. All of these struggles and lack of customer service awareness was extremely frustrating for the 2 nights we were there and the price we were paying. All an easy fix if management would fix their policies and train their staff better.

Loved the hotel itself, modern, clean, large, great location however the multi level layout was confusing and therefore easy to get lost. Would have been helpful had a property map been provided. Location to old town was perfect, right outside the wall. Pool was great. Didn’t realize this was an part-all inclusive type hotel where dinner and breakfast was included (wish we could have paid less to exclude this because we didn’t use) and we had to wear wrist bands at all times. Surprisingly we weren’t asked if we wanted to upgrade to the all inclusive with beverages.

The only negative is that the hotel lacks a bit of character, and feels like a business hotel rather than a welcoming holiday environment. The staff were not the friendliest either but were always on hand if we needed anything.

The Avala Resort is the perfect place to stay at the quiet end of the Budva strip and is a short walk to a stunning beach and a plethora of restaurants by the marina. The hotel’s pool is really nice and the room was absolutely huge with a great balcony overlooking Budva’s Stari Grad.

There was no water upon arrival to our room, our hairdryer was broken, the shower was very dark and overflowed into the bathroom. The view was awful. I also feel it should be an adult only hotel. Children screaming and splashing around the relaxing pool area is very annoying. Also slightly annoying that you have to wear a wrist band for the duration of your stay.

The pool is fantastic and the spa worker was excellent at ensuring the beds were not reserved with towels. He literally removed towels from beds that were not occupied. Fantastic! Food was also great but I personally would not book all inclusive again as you miss out on local restaurants.

Room floor and bathroom had a tiles that were awesome looking and felt good under feet, but they are hard to maintain clean because of the surface type. This is why some areas on them are not looking clean, but it is not bad and we don`t take it as a big flaw, rather we mention it because we saw a lot of comments saying the hotel is not clean. This is not true completely and it is not big of a problem really.

In one word - everything was excellent! Staff were extremely polite and helpful, and they were sincere in doing so. Honestly I think this hotel has the most kind and helpful staff we ever met, and we traveled a lot and seen a lot of hotels. We were delighted and felt really welcome at the hotel right since our arrival. Next thing we got to reception only to receive a triple upgrade from standard double room to luxury suite! After 10 hour drive to Budva, this was a real surprise that lifted our energy right away. Suite was awesome, comfortable, huge and had a patio terrace with sea view. Perfect start of our vacation. Breakfast and diner were also on a high level with a buffet with wide variety of choices, omelette buffet, crepe buffet and many other choices to select from. Really good, quality food, and they made changes to the offer every day. Staff in the restaurant also extremely helpful and kind. Management, give those guys a bonus. Hotel had a private beach with sunbeds and towels included. Sauna, turkish bath, indoor and outdoor pool (not that anyone needs that when you have a clean sea under your nose, but heey, it doesnt hurt to see pools :O). Cleaning lady also was very kind and accommodating and we thank you again for everything! All in all, we can recommend this hotel to everyone, couples, business, family. This was one of the best hotel experiences every, if not the best every, anywhere. Keep up the good work! See you all next year for sure!!! :)

Wifi is really poor. Also I had some issues with housekeeping. Second day I called the reception 3 times to ask to send someone to clean my room, and nobody came until 4pm!!! Which is ridiculous. Also, when I asked for iron, they told me it is impossible for them to give me iron and that I can send my clothes to laundry to get ironed instead. That was the funniest thing I heard, honestly I travel couple of times per month, and I have never been refused to get an iron.

It could really go as 5 star hotel! Besides the best possible location you can get in Montenegro, the facilities in hotel are amazing, such as couple of pools (tip: check out the villa pool in the hill, most of the guests don’t know about it, it’s a bit hidden but it has the most magnificent view of the coast and old town), also the food at breakfast and dinner was great, changed daily.

The restaurant is pretty terrible. The food is buffet style so not great but mostly the service was very amateur. Every time we wanted wine they went into a panic that it wasn’t included in our package and we had to reassure them we were going to pay. They wouldn’t let you go to your room with even a cup of coffee, which I’ve been able to do in every hotel I’ve stayed in around the world (including the one I’m sitting in while writing this review). It just always seemed chaotic. The room needed a bit of an update, the wood trim of the doors was rotting near the floors and the pillows were bags of lumps.

The welcome was great. They upgraded our room which had a nice balcony. Then welcomed us with a fresh fruit plate and bottle of water in our room. The spa was also great, we had 3 treatments there and all were relaxing and professional. The pool is nice as is the beach area. The concierge, Vadim, was fantastic, he organized 2 boat day trips for us with great captains that were the highlight of our trip. The hotel is right next to the old town of Budva which is very charming and lively. Also great that they have free on site parking as the area is very crowded.

Beyond the incident that i faced in the hotel, the staff was generally problematic. First and foremost, in the evening I called the room service for asking an extra blanket. The staff just hang up the phone on me while i was talking because reception was helping about the issue. Therefore i called once again to ask why to hang on the phone on me, this time he said “shut up”. Afterwards I called the reception and explained the situation and till check out nobody cared (even though I reminded them twice during the day). Moreover we booked our room half resort, on the dinner waiter asked us for drinks , without telling them as extra and they are really over-priced. On checkout I paid for a water 5 euro from the minibar (which they justify by telling that its brand is eivan and the standard ones are also 3 euro) In general, it is just a standard hotel with problematic staff. Definately or is not worthed its price.

    location was very nice.

    - The restaurant! For various reasons I travelled with a company that had "all inclusive", but since that wasn't offered through bookings.com I only had "breakfast and dinner" package - which didn't include anything to drink for the dinner. So the restaurant manager and staff were watching us like a hawk making sure I didn't get a "free" drink from someone with "all inclusive". It was rediculous, like something the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. This is the biggest complaint I have on the hotel. But if you're staying there and not planning on eating lunch/dinner then you will have a great experience! - The iconic round outdoor pool they show off was closed for 2 days to change water. Then it was too cold to be in for another 2 days!

This is minor, but bathroom could use more lighting, or a makeup mirror with a light.

I am puzzled by some of the negative reviews about Avala, none of which we experienced in our 6 night stay. The location on beach and right next to old town was perfect. You could walk to everything. The room (luxury room with sea view) was huge with an amazing view from the balcony. The room was spotless and cleaned everyday. The staff were always cheery very helpful. We had a flat tire on our rental car and they helped us to get a replacement car. The booking came with a breakfast and dinner buffet, which is a great value for families with children. We mostly had dinner at restaurants around the city to experience the local foods, but there was something for everyone at breakfast. It’s a great resort for couples or families with children.

Staff in general were not very friendly. You definitely felt like you were 1 of 500, and in fact I was told that when saying I wasn’t happy that the room we were in had dead flys on the floor, exposed wiring in the bathroom and balcony doors that didn’t lock. We got back one day after being out to find the cleaners had not closed our front door properly after cleaning (which only included them making the beds, the dead flys stayed with us the whole time). A real lack of empathy, not sure if it’s cultural or that they had a lot of young staff on for the summer. Finally, I found the rooms and the colour scheme a lot darker than even the photos show. This place is huge and most of it hardly seemed to get used and the colour scheme didn’t feel summer beach side destination.

As you’d expect for a resort style it had all the things you need, private beach was probably most handy. I liked the pool as well.

We were not impressed with the breakfast so stopped going after a few days. It seemed to be a re hash of the left over dinner options from the previous evening which wasn’t for us. Also the dining room was always quite chaotic with tables not reset and left dirty. We found the food at local restaurants to be very good so preferred to eat out after a few days.

The dinner inclusive option is a buffet and not the A la Carte menu that you would be led to believe, also beware of the hotel adding a city/destination tax on top of your booking which may be only a few euro but when your booking.com confirmation shows that you've prepaid said tax, the hotel shouldn't be charging again.

Outdoor dining staff for breakfast and dinner were quite different from the staff at the reception desk! The restaurant staff are not as well mannered as front desk reception. A particular waiter was extremely rude and forced us to move from our original outdoor seating at 9pm. We wanted seats with views of the old town. The restaurant was not busy so we took the 4 persons seat given there were plenty of 4 seaters around on the balcony. He kept insisting we had to sit on a 2 persons seat even though other pairs of local guests were then seated on 4 seaters. When we pointed this out this waiter insisted on arguing instead of being apologetic for not being able to meet our needs. This is very unexpected of a hotel of this standard. No one else from restaurant staff came to assist. I fully understand if we were not able to do do if it was a busy dining time however when it is quiet, this attitude from this waiter is exceptionally impolite. Other guests around us whispered to us that the staff's behaviour was unacceptably rude.

Checking in was exceptionally good, we were greeted by very professional and friendly staff on the day. The lady was very informative, helpful and made our ex Parking at this place was easy and very convenient. The inclusive breakfast and dinner was a great experience.

Even though the rooms were spacious there were some cleanliness issues. The floor was not very clean and we would get our feet dirty if we walked without flip flops. There were plenty of items missing from the room. There weren’t enough bath robes and towels for everyone and I think the shower should have had a bit more lighting. The shower in the other room also was not working properly. Guests had to hold it with their hand for the water to keep running. There weren’t enough glasses for all the guests to drink water from. Since some of us were smokers, we noticed that there wasn’t an ashtray on the balcony. The wifi quality was really poor on the balcony and at the outside pool area. The biggest disappointment was being forced to pay for mini bar items we did not use. We drank some water bottles in one of the rooms but we were perfectly aware of the number of bottles we used and of their price. In the contrary, the other room did not use the mini bar at all. At the moment of payment we noticed that there were more bottles of water on the invoice . We tried to clear this out with the reception but they kept insisting that we had used them because their staff had count the missing bottles. At the end of the discussion, apparently they were sure that we drank the water and filled the bottles with tap water and place them back in the fridge. It was really frustrating because we had just spent around 1000 euros in that hotel so we weren’t going to embarrass ourselves for 2 bottles of water. It became obvious that was no point in discussing with them, so we just paid and left.

The family suite was spacious and had two bathrooms which was perfect since we were 4 people per room. We had booked 2 family suites. The view from the balcony was very beautiful and the balcony itself had space for us to sit and be comfortable. We could see the city and the sea. The food also was very good and tasty. We had dinner and breakfast and both were good. We really enjoyed the pastry. We also ordered some food by the pool and we were satisfied. The outside and inside pool were great, big and we received good service. The spa area was rather comfortable.

This year there are plenty of young people with no experience working in a hotel restaurant. They need to work with them because they do not have a shelf and feel for the guest. For example, we called a young waitress several times to serve us on what he replied to wait. Also, on their faces there is no smile that is the basis of the catering industry.
