How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewA very cool hotel with friendly and helpful staff. We loved the layout and the design. As soon as you walk in it feels very special. We had a larger room with a lounge area and balcony, which were all stunning. Breakfast was very relaxed and everything was delicious. We also appreciated the free snacks that were available and we loved having access to the cafe/bakery and shop. And then an incredible view from the roof terrace as well. Just amazing!
We loved everything. Except to say that if you're concerned about noise then maybe the rooms with balconies won't be for you. There are several bars in the street and the music is very loud until late. But the hotel have obviously considered this and provide earplugs in the room. We don't mind noise and we slept very well.
Hi Helen, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! 🌟 We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the design, your spacious room with the lounge and balcony, as well as the relaxed breakfast, snacks, and the views from our rooftop terrace. It makes us very happy to know you felt the special atmosphere we strive to create. We also appreciate your thoughtful note about the noise. As you mentioned, being right in the heart of the city means there are lively bars nearby, but we’re glad the earplugs and your own comfort with the environment made it easy to rest well. It was a pleasure to host you, and we’d love to welcome you back anytime you return to Oaxaca. 🌿 Warm regards, Paul & the Boulenc Bed & Bread Team

Verified reviewStaff were wonderful. Bed was comfortable, and the room and the entire property was aesthetically pleasing. The kitchen was great - the coffee, pastries and fruit were very good! The location was perfect! Walking distance to everything we needed
It was slightly noisy being but nothing too concerning - we still slept through it.

Verified reviewThe location was great and the staff were really wonderful. The breakfasts were simple offerings of pastries, granola, fruit, and cheese. All very good and fresh. The staff was the best part of this hotel. They offered genuine hospitality and made us feel welcome.
The facilities were not what we expected. The room felt dated and worn. The internet was not working the day we arrived and we needed it for work deadlines. The staff were attentive to help us problem solve the issue. Thankfully, were upgraded to a much better location across the street (same owner). We much preferred the newer location.
Hello Kirsten, We’re sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Our hotel’s style is a vintage, repurposed project, and we understand that it might not be the right fit for everyone. We also recognize that certain things—such as the internet being spotty during stormy weather—are unfortunately beyond our control, though we will continue working to improve it. We’re glad you enjoyed the newer hotel across the street. It is indeed a more modern and luxurious property, and for future visits, we recommend considering hotels with that style if it’s important for your comfort. We truly appreciate your kind words about our location, breakfast, and especially our staff. Genuine hospitality is at the heart of what we do, and we’re happy to know you felt welcomed. Warm regards, Paul

Verified reviewThe hotel is very central to tourist sites. All the staff were pleasant and spoke great English, making it easy to communicate. Some of the staff - especially Paul - were very helpful and kind. Pastries from the bakery were great. As were eggs from the restaurant. The air conditioner was awesome and much needed. Our room had a nice amount of space. Loved the view from the terrace and the breeze.
The hotel is on a very busy, loud street. On Saturday night, you could hear the nearby club and people were yelling until all hours. You definitely will need the ear plugs provided. The hotel hasn’t quite figured out how to be a hotel yet. Reception isn’t staffed full time. Even when staff are supposed to be working I often couldn’t find anyone. And when checking out, no one volunteered to help with my luggage even though I was clearly struggling to bring it down stairs. We had a room facing the street. The shower had a window with a bamboo curtain that did not provide much privacy. Breakfast was good but I didn’t love having to carry it up two flights of stairs to the terrace.
Hi Robin! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly value hearing from our guests, as it helps us clarify our way of working and improve where possible. Regarding the noise, as always, this is something we communicate to all guests prior to booking and upon arrival. Our location is in the very heart of the city, which comes with both the advantage of being central to tourist sites and the reality of city sounds, especially on weekends. We understand this is not for everyone, and if avoiding stairs or external noise is a priority, we recommend guests take this into account before booking. About breakfast, bringing it upstairs is never an issue for our team — we are happy to serve and want every guest to feel at home. The “serve yourself” concept is simply designed for comfort and flexibility, not to limit service. As for reception, our team members take on multiple roles to offer a more personalized experience for the few guests we host at a time. This means you might not always see someone at the desk, but we are always just a WhatsApp message away — something we encourage all guests to use for faster assistance. We’re sorry to hear you felt otherwise, and we’ll continue working to make sure our communication about these details is even clearer. Kind regards, Paul

Around 6am we were woken up by loud noises in the kitchen and it was impossible to go back to sleep because of the noises. They need to sort that out
Thank you for your feedback and for highlighting the aspects you enjoyed, like the design, the terrace, and the breakfast experience. Regarding the noise, we understand it can be disruptive, and we truly regret that it affected your rest. That said, as part of a working bakery and kitchen, early morning activity is part of the experience and context we communicate clearly in advance. We do our best to minimize impact, but some level of morning noise is inherent to the space and its operation. We appreciate your understanding, and we’ll continue refining our processes where possible. Best regards, Paul

Verified reviewSolid 9/10 for this property with 10/10 potential. Given that they only just opened, they are doing an amazing job. The staff is simply amazing and have a real hospitality mindset. They will go above and beyond to make sure you have a great stay. The rooms and building itself is stunning as well.
Some facilities could be ironed out a bit such as the jacuzzi in our room but this will definitely be resolved with time. Nonetheless amazing stay.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and encouraging review — we're truly glad you had a great stay and appreciated the team’s hospitality and the design of the space. We're especially happy you enjoyed the complimentary upgrade we offered. As you mentioned, we’re still fine-tuning a few details, including some room features like the jacuzzi, and feedback like yours helps guide that process. Thanks again for staying with us — we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Warm regards, Paul

Verified reviewWhen the room I got was too noisy and street facing, they immediately upgraded me to a quieter room. Beautiful aesthetics and breakfast was filling with essentials - fruits and good bread. Staff were exceptionally helpful and so kind. Very close to everything in old town. Safe for solo women travelers.

Verified reviewThis was a charming boutique hotel with the kind of touches that make you want to stay. It had a great relaxed vibe. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. Enjoying the delicious breakfast on the rooftop terrace was a treat. The staff went out of their way to help me plan things to do in Oaxaca. I only regret I could not stay longer!
A sign outside would be helpful. I was very tired upon arrival and was not sure what door I should use. Luckily the staff was very responsive to my text and came right out to meet me.

Verified reviewGreat breakfast, always fruit and pastries available throught the day
Breakfast could start a bit earlier. Lots of building work taking place throughout our stay - even at 8am on Sunday morning!
Hi Peter! Thank you for your thoughtful feedback — we truly appreciate it. Regarding breakfast, while it officially begins at 8:30 AM in line with the restaurant opening (for guests who wish to order eggs or other prepared dishes), we always ensure that the breakfast spread — including fresh fruit, coffee, and other options — is available before 8:00 AM for those who wish to start their day earlier. As for the neighborhood activity, we understand it can be disruptive at times. Being located in the historic district means we're surrounded by ongoing restoration and city life, and we do make a point to inform all our guests about this at the time of booking, as it’s part of the reality of staying in such a vibrant and evolving area. Thank you again for your comments — they help us improve and continue providing a better experience for all. Best regards Paul
