Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

MexicoThe usual awfully uncomfortable pillows. old school very firm mattress. hot water in shower but the shower head pointed at the wall. No drain cover in shower/bathroom. It stunk!!!
The owner was super helpful. He picked me up at Tren Maya Xpujil. He was very friendly. He arranged a driver to Calakmul. Bloody expensive. 1800 pesos to get there (130 km) then the driver waited for me. Air con worked well. Becan just down the road. GREAT ruins, skip calamul, although calakmul has high pyramids. Becan is way more fun. and heaps cheaper.

AustraliaThe room smelled bad of mold, and it felt damp inside. My clothes felt wet, the sheets felt wet, I felt damp constantly and the towels were smelly. The noise outside was very loud, so I couldn’t sleep early, and it was also loud in the morning. There was not much privacy. The water was lukewarm, not hot. The price was very steep for a small room that was deteriorating.
The staff were lovely and very helpful. The location was right near the bus stop, which was good and the pizza shop is next door. They checked us in late at night which was great. Good for only last minute - one night - quick sleep and go.

New ZealandThere was a lot of commotion each morning (~5am) outside in the courtyard (men spitting, cars sitting idling etc) which was a bit disruptive.
As a hotel in Xpujil, Hotel Chaac Calakmul is all you need. It is around the corner from the ADO bus stop, the bed is comfortable, the air conditioning works great, it felt secure, the staff were lovely and very accomodating to our delayed arrival, and it has hot water. I’ve stayed at places in Mexico triple the price that haven’t had as reliable, functioning amenities. There is pizza restaurant attached which is very, very good, and the owner organised our shuttle to Calakmul and Balamkú for a very reasonable rate. The wifi was crazy-good - probably even better than what I have at my own house.

MalaysiaThe room was quite small and one of the beds had a dip in it so it was very uncomfortable to sleep on. The water pressure from the sink was poor and there was a horrible smell coming from the drain of the sink (smelled like hair dye). The toilet had problems filling with water so you would have to wait five minutes to do a proper flush. Some of the pillows had a stench, like the sheets were not washed.
Good location very close to the ado station and right behind a pizzeria by the same owners so you don't have to go far for anything. The hosts can also organise transport to Calakmul though we didn't use it. Soap and towels were provided and there was hot water. It was also nice that there was a smart TV with Netflix.

United StatesNo water first evening and next morning (for showering, brushing, washing, flushing, etc). But it was for most of the town so out of control of this hostel. There was no "TV with cable channels" as advertised on Booking.com. 3 days gets kind of long. Very musty smelling and moldy room from excess humidity and poor insulation of door and window. Shower water was a drizzle and very hard to control temperature (cold or scorching hot). Despite being in the jungle it gets cold at night in February and there was no way to heat the room, only AC or fan.
Oscar, Omar, Manuel were really nice and helpful and spoke good english. My spanish is very bad. Location is excellent, by the roundabout on Hwy 186 around the corner from the ADO bus stop. La Pizzeta (which you have to walk through to get to the rooms) had good pizzas and tacos. The room was OK for my 3 night stay. For the price I can certainly not expect a Hilton. Overall, it was what I expected.

GermanyThe pictures do not meet the reality any more. The rooms are tiny and although we noted that we are one adult and one big kid we got a tiny double bed. It was better than nothing and cheap price, but not comfortable... - well we just needed it for two nights. Anything more would had been hard
Owner is very friendly. The location is actually not bad and the food is quite good, but we had a hard time because of a local heavy construction site and ongoing truck traffic, dust and noise.

United StatesRooms are actually behind/inside pizzeria which was unclear and made finding it a challenge especially since the one place the name is painted on the building was obscured by pizza delivery boxes at the time we arrived (in their defense, a message detailing this was sent, but our phone had died). Can also be a bit noisy during business hours of pizza place.
Inexpensive, right off the main strip, easy access to food/groceries/bus station/transport. Worked well as a jumping-off point for us to do the bat volcano and ruins at Calakmul. AC and a good shower always a bonus. Fridge is shared with other rooms and restaurant (?) but we were able to chill our drinks without issue. Parking and access around back were also good once we managed to locate the place. Staff were very nice despite our not-great spanish and some confusion about rooms and check in. Pizza was also better than expected!
