Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaAll was good
I booked a spacious comfortable room with a great view of the ocean (Junior suite). The hotel itself is located just outside the bubble of cruise ship crowds, so much less busy than otherwise could be. The staff were amazing, and always very helpful, even with knowing minimal Spanish (Thanks Suzette!). I was able to book an amazing personal solo excursion through the hotel to see Lake Bacalar and Chacchoben ruins, highly recommended! Great Italian restaurant as well, for breakfast and dinner, delicious.

United States of AmericaThe beach in front of the hotel is not the best. I preferred to rent a bike and go downtown for cleaner beach (they better clean the seawater). Many items were listed in the breakfast menu, but not available: some fruits, yougurt, etc. Additionally, I didn't like the service of one of the owners: the one in the bar. Conveniently on Saturday night, he said the hotel was not accepting credit cards. No signs anywhere to alert the customers. Even though I was a hotel guest, he "suggested" that I walk 10min at night to withdraw money on an ATM! When I refused and complained saying there were no signs of "no credit card today" nor the waitress said anything, he relunctedly charged my room...and came with the machine the very next dinner. My desire was to not eat there any longer, but walking to town at night was not appealing. Overall, he was not the most friendly.
If you want a secluded place but relatively close to the main restaurants and activities, then location is great. 5-7min bike ride or 15-20min from city center. The facility is also clean. My room (#19) was at the top floor and in front of the beach (great views); however, not all rooms are like that. There are many rooms at the back of the hotel. There is an okay restaurant in the hotel; not the best food in town. Had dinner there more out of convenience, not because the food or service were great.

SpainI find it bizarre that with all of Mahahual TOTALLY EMPTY -- I was the only one in the hotel for a full week. Only a few scattered other guests for a night or 2 -- they REFUSED to negotiate and give me a cheaper price or a slight upgraded room! Maybe they are just worker bees, and indeed I heard that the Italian owners want to give it a posh vibe, but I find that to be very bad business indeed. In the end, I paid a bit more for my room with a beach view and view of the mangroves. Well worth it!
Right on the beach with nice lounge chairs. I loved that it was a few minutes outside the main strip of beach clubs with all you can drink for the tourists pouring off the cruise ships at the other end. Rooms very clean and nice. I also love that breakfast is included... Talk to the people next door about renting bikes! They are very nice and willing to negotiate.

United KingdomThe hotel is a little walk away from the main restaurants and bars but this is not a problem as long as youre prepared to walk a little. It will probably be good on the cruise ship days as it will offer more peace.
This hotel is like a fairy tale. We came in december so it was decorated for christmas and it was gorgeous. But the actual wooden structures of the building and the inner courtyard are so charming. They offer free breakfast, which you have a choice from within their main menu. Or you can upgrade if preferred Free unlimited drinking water Accross the road from the hotel is the beach. There is a hotel area in the beach with sunbeds etc which are lovely. The staff were incredible. Suzette was so attentive and honestly such a nice lady. She couldnt do enough for us. The bedroom is very comfortable

Typical Caribbean experience, warm, but loved the fact it was at the beach, within walking distance to restaurants and shops. Very touristy.

United States of AmericaThe wifi was poor, the tv didn't work enough for subscription tv like netflix due to signal issues, the bathroom sink faucet needs adjustment, it sprays the water so that it gets your shirt and pants wet when you are washing your hands. The restaurant was high priced for the area and the food was generally good. But the cook didn't understand basic things like how to cook a steak medium rare, or how to do eggs over easy. Each room has only one key. This is challenging when one person is somewhere else in the town and you need to get into the room solo. Inside the room, a "junior suite," there was just one room with the bed and a bathroom. That's not a suite. A suite is more than one room. To sit and read, or talk, or watch tv or whatever, one can sit on the bed or in the uncomfortable metal chair at the little vanity. There is no comfortable chair or small couch for sitting and relaxing indoors.
Room was basically good, restaurant was ok but not great, people were very nice and helpful.

NetherlandsThe room was clean, but rather small and there was no real daylight coming in: one window is blocked by a big wardrobe and the other window's curtains cannot really be opened, since everybody going in or out or going to reception passes right outside this window.
Very helpful staff, good on-site restaurant and yummy breakfast! The location is excellent: a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the main strip of Mahahual, but nice and quiet. The hotel does not have a pool, but just cross the street and enjoy the private sandy beach with sun loungers.

NetherlandsNoisy room, very windy outside. Therefore some roof parts were making noise all nights. We asked for a more quiet room in the back of the hotel (second building). Personell told us these rooms were not free. We were doubting this because the hotel felt a bit empty. Only option was a more expensive room in the front building with still a lot of wind) For a good beach, take the beach in Mahahual itself (not in front of the hotel) or drive 30 minutes south for nice plaes.
location is good, just outside the centre of Mahahual. Facillities at the hotel are good as well (food, service etc)

United States of AmericaThere were some little annoyances and problem that could be pretty easily fixed... The screen on the balcony door was pretty badly damaged, making it more or less worthless. The security door on the balcony is very difficult to open and close, and very noisy. I'm glad there's a way to secure the balcony entrance since the balcony is shared, but there has to be a better method than this. The door is also VERY noisy if it's open when it's windy out. The shower floor had a lot of debris on it even when we first arrived, which was a bit disgusting and disappointing. The quiet and privacy of being located further from the pier is great, but it's at least a 10 minute walk (and often longer) to get to the majority of places.
In a quiet area, away from the majority of cruise ship tourists. Rooms are spacious, and some of them have a great ocean view. Breakfast was pretty good. There are less expensive places to stay along the beach, but also more expensive. This strikes a nice balance between the two.
