Options for lunch and dinner were limited and over priced. Room needed some maintenance, could be in a better shape. There must be a coffee machine in the Room since the property is so huge it is hard to grab a morning coffee especially if you are an early bird.

Cool and super nature friendly place

Papaya Playa is a great place with an incredible staff. Yasmin & Esther helped us in all possible ways. The break fast is extensive, with lots of choice in fresh fruits, overnight oat and all kinds of egg. The casita with private roof top pool is truly impeccable and value for money. We had a great stay.

Location was a bit far from restaurants and clubs. You have to take taxi every time to go out. 500 pesos for 5 minutes drive 🤷🏻‍♂️

I liked the atmosphere and enjoyed my stay. Beachfront room plays a big role it! Having a private hammock in front of the room and being few steps away from ocean-view pool was an amazing experience! I read in reviews that food was expensive. I will call it pricey but totally normal for Tulum beach. I would add that food was very tasty. Fish and chips, octopus and french toast👌 I also read about scorpions in the room but haven’t seen even a bug. They also host a party on Saturdays. It’s a must see in Tulum.

there was a small snake in our bathroom, nevertheless we got it out and the staff upgraded us to a private villa. Thankyou so much for the upgrade, it was totally worth it!

loved that the property was very authentic, I felt like I was sleeping in the jungle. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was amazing with a view.

    - remember you’re in the jungle, so there is always some sort of noise: ocean, birds, animals. I enjoyed being able to hear the ocean though. - poor lighting: meant to be romantic, peaceful, and relaxing. Became problematic only when applying makeup for a wedding. - small mirror in the bathroom, also problematic when applying make up for a wedding. - some problems that friends ran into: raccoon in their room, hole in the straw roof after an animal dug through it, no plug in the bathroom to plug in flat iron.

    - not your typical Mexico resort. Doesn’t feel like a fast paced, Americanized party resort. - located in a jungle surrounded by nature - individual “casa’s” ranging in sizes that were well air conditioned despite the straw roofs. - good food - friendly staff, never felt pressured to tip - direct communication with staff via WhatsApp which was very convenient. ie: ready for a room cleaning? just let them know so you won’t be bothered by knocking when you want to sleep in. - loved all the art installations: everything on the resort reminded me of Burning Man

Food here was incredible. We truly had a magical stay! It’s at the top end of our budget but you do get what you pay for. We had such an amazing tasting experience in the new restaurant and the sommelier was so helpful. We loved the quiet pool - and the option of being at either!

The room we stayed had two beds and the length of both beds was two short. I'm 5,9 and my feet where longer than the bed. Total shame because the night was not the best. also the bed had no headrest so the pillow kept falling.

The hotel is lovely, the staff goes beyond to make you feel welcome. French toast for breakfast is a must. Lunch and dinner food is delicious.

The staff is quite stressed and nervous. they are under pressure, you can sense it even if they try hard to be of help. it took us almost 1 hour to check in and about the same time to check out while we explicitly ask to deliver our luggages to the reception in 30 minutes maximum because we had a bus to catch. they did not make it. breakfast was average. They vibe they promise is not there during the week days. not even a little music in the dining areas. unexpected

The jungle bungalow is nice. The bed is very comfy. cocktails by the pool were really good

The stay and facility was gorgeous, but navigating through the property was not simple. We only stayed for a few nights, so it could relate to us not being acquainted to the property (and possibly due to one too many drinks). Being lost through the grounds felt safe, and at times was fun, but could be irritating if one is urgently looking to get home.

Papaya Playa project was the quintessential location to remove yourself from the world and to "get away". The customer service was exceptional, they were overly friendly, made sure we were taken care of, and even assisted in booking/finding local activities to do. HUGE shout-out to Javier, for helping book the Cenote tours, suggesting the local bar/restaurant, and enrolling us in the breathe-work yoga experience.

If I have to be picky, I would say 1. that the staff at the restaurants need some addiitonal training before starting to interact with customers, I got the impresion most of them were new and sometimes did not really knew the menu or how to solve some of my request and 2. I got the basic "room", but for the price per nigth I was expecting something just a bit bigger...

Absolutely amazing place, love the architecture integrated into the landscape, the care of the environment as well as the quality of the food at the restarant. Location its great, beautiful surroundings and super helpful staff, specially Javier from Customer experience, he was always helpful with our various request. Definitely a place to come back.

Two power outlets only in the casita on one side of the bed allowed power for just 3 power cords - one for each of our phones and one computer. The lights in the room, particularly in the bathroom, are quite dim. Gives a nice glow except for when you'd like a little more light to groom or put on a little makeup. The spicy margarita was not, and the recipe would benefit from a serious revision. Be aware that Papaya Playa is a little removed from the hotel zone which limits other nearby restaurant options. Taxis are $30 per trip in the evening and $25 during the day...take your life in your hands if you ride a bicycle, use a motor scooter, or walk the edge of the road. The bohemian vibe is as interesting as it is contrived and commercialized, a cliche promoted most by travelers who don the persona while there and enthusiastically promoted by the shops.

Front desk staff when we checked in were attentive, Javier who checked us out early in the morning was great, as was a different Javier who in the afternoon showed up to our room and would be our personal concierge. Eric (or Erin?) our evening server in the restaurant was also accommodating. Food was amazing. The sommelier friendly and informative. The beach - from rocky outcrops on each end - are part of Papaya Playa which was wonderful ensuring a great beach experience not interrupted by many shoreline peddlers or hotel guests from neighboring establishments. The bohemian vibe is fun and interesting. Some really unique souvenirs to be found in the many many shops. I've stayed at Papaya Playa 3 times now: 2006, 2008, and 2022. Although there's been a lot of change, the place has maintained it's own distinct character, that of a relaxed environment overlain by luxury that allows a guest to self-indulgently and shamelessly recharge.

The room was SO dark and the bathroom was not convenient with the way the faucet and sink worked and the shower dripped all over the place. Not good for girls wanting to put makeup on and no full length mirror to see what you look like before stepping out. We got lost in the jungle every time we left and came back but I think that was a part of the experience! Definitely wouldn't work for older people that don't like to walk a lot.

It's a beautiful resort and it was a one of a kind experience! The food is amazing and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful
