How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Verified reviewSuper remote hotel perfect for quiet getaway. Beaches were white sand with turquoise sea to swim in. Staff were super friendly, rooms were great (considering the fact this is a remote island with limited resource) and the food options on the menu satisfied all.
Some stray dogs were about but to be honest these were friendly and didn’t bother us.

Verified reviewOnly stayed one night but puas hati gila! Our room was right on the beach — open the door, terus beach depan mata. Snorkelling was free, we kayaked, rode the ATV, and even flew a kite just for fun. The island was calm, peaceful, and the staff were super friendly. One night really not enough bah… confirm will come back again, next time stay longer!

Verified reviewThe most incredible aspect was definitely the ocean explorations included with our stay. We were taken to fantastic, pristine underwater worlds teeming with diverse marine life and spectacular coral formations it was genuinely inspiring. Our lodging was exceptionally comfortable, meticulously maintained, and thoughtfully supplied with everything needed for a relaxing time. I particularly enjoyed the tranquil, spacious environment, which was a refreshing change from bustling tourist spots, and the warm, welcoming demeanor of the team members created a wonderfully laid back ambiance. There was also a wide array of engaging pursuits available, from shore activities to underwater adventures, ensuring constant enjoyment. The overall experience represented outstanding worth for an authentic island retreat.
The only minor point to note is that the ocean journey to the island can sometimes be a bit bumpy. While it's a small trade off for such an isolated paradise, it's worth being aware of.

We just checked out from Sutera @ Mantanani, and honestly, I can’t believe more people don’t talk about this place! It’s a true hidden gem – completely underrated compared to the overhyped and overpriced Semporna trips. Unlike Semporna operators that charge excessively for every little thing, Sutera @ Mantanani includes a lot in their package, and the experience was far more relaxed and personal. The hotel provided free snorkeling trips, and we were brought out by boat to beautiful, untouched spots with amazing corals and colorful fishes – simply breathtaking! Our room package included 1 high tea, which was a nice surprise. Just note that different packages come with different inclusions – ours didn’t have dinner, but that was totally fine. We absolutely loved the room setup – cozy, clean, and the bed was super comfortable. There’s honestly so much more to do here than expected. Whether you’re looking to relax, explore marine life, or just enjoy a quieter, more authentic island escape, Mantanani is a great choice. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to skip the crowds and commercialized experience in Semporna. Sutera @ Mantanani is Sabah’s best-kept secret!

Verified reviewLocation was absolutely stunning, secluded, peaceful, and surrounded by crystal clear waters. It felt like a private island escape. The beachfront views were unbeatable! The snorkelling experience was a highlight! Just a short boat ride from the shore, we saw coral reefs and plenty of tropical fish. Great for nature lovers. Everything felt peaceful and unhurried. No crowds, no stress, just beautiful scenery, good food and total relaxation. It’s the perfect place to disconnect.
The boat ride can be a bit bumpy, just something to be prepared for!

The restaurant is close early like about 9 pm and no food supply if you are hungry at midnight. Also during the snorkelling, the time is really limited and short.

Verified reviewLocated on one of the most beautiful islands I‘ve ever been to, white sands and crystal clear water. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. However, it‘s not even close to being a 5 star resort. Food was okay but not many choices - again far from being a 5 star resort.
Unfortunately the island itself has a huge problem with waste. As soon as you leave the resort you feel like stepping in a trash can. The village close to the resort is also full of trash and partly destroyed. It‘s really sad that such a beautiful island is being treated like that!

Verified reviewComfortable room, well-furnished. Very good snorkeling off boat, with happy crew of local boys. With twin 300hp outboards, the 45min voyage to and from the island was exciting.
Lacking some amenities which one expects in a resort of a 5* hotel. Where is the beach bbq? Why is your jetty bar closed? Get rid of your noisy quadbikes: some sailing dinghies would be nice. Your canoes have seen better days. For swimming, I had to wear aquashoes - plastic trash and broken glass are everywhere on your 'private' beach. This place is not always peaceful and relaxing. Avoid rooms on the north side because the daytrip party place next door plays thumping bass music. All food is trucked in, presumably via the Sutera Magellan hotel in KK. Limited menu choice: meat (from Oz) or farmed salmon (from Norway). They don't buy in any local fresh-caught fish. And why not bake fresh bread? It's not difficult! On our return journey, we waited an hour for the bus to KK, with not so much as a cup of tea on offer. 'Facilities under renovation' I was told. Aye, right. Not even 1* service! I won't be back for a while ........

Verified reviewThe structure is located in a wonderful atoll, it is possible to snorkel already close to the shore or with excursions organized on site. The seaside chalets are very characteristic and so are the standard rooms. The restaurant offers a fairly varied menu with a good choice of oriental and intercontinental dishes.
Despite the happy position, the island is very shabby: only a small piece of beach is accessible to the resort's customers, all the rest is in a state of abandonment with tree trunks and plastic invading the strip of white sand which, without them, would be magnificent. Furthermore, there is an unbearable smell of smog probably emanating from a very noisy transformer which constantly emits smoke, so instead of being on a desert island it seems like being in the center of London invaded by air pollution. The bathroom water gives off an unbearable rotten egg smell, it seems like the smell of sewerage, so you come out of the shower smelling bad and have to brush your teeth with bottled water. Furthermore, the island is pervaded by sandflies so you are unable to enjoy the beach or the cocktail bar because you are literally invaded by these insects. Besides, insecticide treatment is carried out in broad daylight while people are out and about in the village and you breathe in all the insecticide that is spread everywhere which I assume is poisonous to humans! Bottom line: the treatment received is not worth the price paid.

The resort is ok, the food can be definitely way better for a resort of this kind, the premium chalet are very beautiful Now the sad part about the whole thing. The part of the beach in front of the hotel is amazing and clean, the Island itself is just a paradise, BUT, walking 50 meters out of the resort you see a HUGE and too sad beach of PLASTIC, this are pieces of bottles, chairs and many other things that has been there for years not days so definitely the hotel have all the time to clean the beach, that plastic didn’t came with the tide as they say in other comments but simply came over the years and the people of the Hotel simply don’t do NOTHING to clean it, the white sand beach in front of the island that they shows in pictures is literally full of plastic. This is just very sad as it shows not just the massive damage the human being is creating to the world but also how the same people do not care about it It will take maybe a couple of people of the hotel maximum 2 hours to clean the beach but guess what? Nothing happens I hope that things will change for this magic island Nothing more to say

Verified reviewThe sea is beautiful, and sea view chalets are right on the beach. Free snorkeling activity is a plus. Enjoyed the possibility of having fresh fish bought outside cooked for dinner. Jetty transfer is well organized and quick.
Room was smelly and dirty, very old with old bathroom appliances. Breakfast is targeted only to Chinese tourists. The beach is not cleaned properly, and as soon as you walk a bit out it's full of trash. No fridge in the room. Staff skills could be improved. Not up to standards considering the price.

Verified reviewFriendly staffs and good spa (massage). Nice snorkelling trip with many fishes and corals. Nice bonfire and fire playing show at night.
Many trash and plastics on the Beach and the sea in front of the resort even resort’s staffs tried to clean it the morning. Mountain of plastic and trash at the beach next to the resort. Room is tear off and mattress is hard. Very simple and same Breakfast everyday.
