Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomI can't think of anything.
It was a great experience from start to finish - the staff, in particular, were great and couldn't do enough for us. Their recommendations were spot on. The room was sweet and very peaceful.

FranceThe windows were not soundproof. The hotel's front door opening/closing was noisy, day and night, and situated just below my 1st floor room so I had to use earplugs.
Perfect location for walking in the city, nice view, small but cosy room. Restaurants and bars nearby

New ZealandWow - those stairs were definitely a challenge with luggage! That said, it’s pretty typical for Amsterdam, so not unexpected, just something to be aware of.
Check-in was smooth, with easy communication and a lovely touch - we could help ourselves to a complimentary glass of wine on arrival. The location was fantastic, just a short stroll from all the action and Central Station. Perfect for a quick stay in the city.

United StatesMy room was on the third floor. There was no elevator, which was kind of okay until I saw high steep and narrow the stairs were. A tall and overweight person can barely use these stairs. When going down, I had to hold on to the wooden handles so I couldn't fall! The bathroom was very small, which was still okay, but there were no hooks to hang the towels, including the hand towel. There wasn't a tissue box, either. My room had very basic amenities and no air conditioning. With the weather in the 80s, it was uncomfortably hot — the provided fan helped a little, but not enough for a good night’s rest. I understand that Amsterdam doesn't get that hot usually, so most of the time it is probably okay not to have AC, but if you are visiting during the summer months, there is a chance that you would be uncomfortable due to the heat. Breakfast was the biggest letdown. The selection was already quite limited, but what really ruined it was the cloud of fruit flies hovering over the food, even on the bread and croissants. It would make a huge difference if the hotel kept food in covered containers to maintain hygiene.
The staff is amazing! The young, energetic women and men were the highlight of my stay! They were very friendly, helpful, and fun! The location of the hotel is excellent. It is close to everything as it is centrally located and very close to the train station. The hotel is a beautifully restored traditional house right on the canal, which gives it a lot of character and charm. My room was great, which was overlooking the canal.

United StatesWow the stairs!! I know it’s Amsterdam but this is a whole other level. The kind man checking me in brought my suitcase up. Wow. The entire hallway and staircase also a bit dingy. Rooms are nice enough. No vegan breakfast options. I canceled my breakfast for the second day.

South AfricaThe stairs were daunting!!
A truly special stay in the heart of Amsterdam We absolutely loved our time at Max Brown Hotel. The location is beyond spectacular—tucked along a picturesque canal, within walking distance of Central Station, and surrounded by charming streets and shops. The views from our canal-facing room were remarkable and made the experience even more memorable. The staff were warm and welcoming throughout, but a special mention must go to Adi, who was truly exceptional—thoughtful, attentive, and added a personal touch that made our stay feel extra special. The hotel itself is stylish and cozy, with lots of character. Just a note: it is on the pricier side, and the traditional Dutch staircases are not for the faint of heart—so pack light! Overall, we loved every minute and would return in a heartbeat. Highly recommended for those wanting an authentic and unforgettable Amsterdam experience.

South AfricaNo serious complaints, and one has to keep in mind it is Amsterdam. So the steep steps to the room was to be expected in some way, as well as the tiny size of the room -- yet all in all it was comfortable.
The hotel is close to Amsterdam Central train station. It is beautifully located on Heerengracht, and has all necessary facilities. Staff are friendly and I was welcomed with a complimentary drink.

SerbiaThe biggest issue was the noise. Every time a neighboring room closed its door—especially at night—it sounded so loud that it felt like someone was breaking into our room.
The room was charming, with an entrance right on the canal and decorated in classic Dutch style. One standout feature was the basketball hoop — my sons were delighted and used it all the time. Such a fun and thoughtful addition!
