How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewThe rooms were great and well designed even for the small space with the limitations of such an old building. Gorgeous views no matter which room and sounds of the river to listen to. An excellent stop over from Jotenheim National Park on the way to Norway. We wish we could have spent more time here just to relax. The real star of the show here was Erik, the owner. We ended up being the last guests of the whole season and showed up later than I had noted on booking.com. He was so kind and truly an amazing host. He has a true love for this historic hotel and wants to make a real impact on the local community. Erik when you see this, we loved chatting with you! You were a highlight of our entire trip to Norway! - Laura, Laurel, and Elizabeth

Verified reviewComfy hard bed
Location, small rooms, old standard. Did not meet normal B&B standard while priced as a boutique hotel. Breakfast not included, 210nok for a minimalistick and poor breakfast…
Hello Carl-Martin, First of all, I must say that I am very sorry we were not able to meet your expectations. My personal recommendation for you in the future would be not to overlook details such as the hotel description or even the photos before making a booking, as these clearly state all relevant information such as room sizes, the year the hotel was built, its location, facilities, and even the scope of the breakfast offering. Our staff also provide personal clarification, upon request, regarding what type of breakfast we offer in the mornings – breakfast CAN be booked on site and is not mandatory. Likewise, staying overnight in our hotel is not mandatory – we are happy to refund our guests the full booking price if they inform us at check-in that the hotel does not meet their expectations. In fact, our hotel dates back to 1898 (also mentioned in the description) and is intentionally somewhat aged in character, though of course tastes will always differ. At least we managed to score a few points with our beds – lucky us there. I wish you all the best! Best regards, Erik

Verified reviewIt was quirky. Really enjoyed the ambience of the hotel. The person running the hotel was very friendly and recommended a great restaurant for dinner, which we enjoyed immensely.
The room was a bit compact but did not take away from our stay at the hotel.
Hei Anne, thanks a lot for the super review! :)

Verified reviewVery cute place with incredibly friendly staff. We only spent one night but we enjoyed it - the rooms are tiny but cozy and totally fine for a night. The common area was very spacious and the breakfast spread had a nice variety. There is also a fun local bar downstairs to unwind afer a long drive.
Barbara, thank you so much for your super nice review!! Hope to see you again! All the best!!

Verified reviewBy the road side on the way to Ålesund.
We were charged a late check in (kl. 21:00) fee of 350 nok. It was very disgusting 🤮 The cost was not found on the website, but I got message from the host after I posted the check in time. When I read the message I was already arrived and the door was locked. It calls itself a HOTEL. I don’t recommend!
Dear Sir, we are very sorry that the incurred late check-in fee caused such dissatisfaction during your 12-hour stay with us. To clarify the circumstances once again: our check-in times are clearly listed on Booking.com, which is also likely the reason you submitted a late check-in request via that platform. We responded to your request immediately and also informed you of the associated fee. I’m also sorry that you apparently missed our reply to your written inquiry. Yes, it is correct that we call ourselves a HOTEL – we are a small country hotel dating back to 1898, located in a very remote and rural area, as is described across all platforms. Due to these conditions, and in order to preserve the building, a certain level of economic viability must be maintained. As we explained on site, this means that during the “pre-season,” we already open our doors to guests seeking accommodation during their travels, but our reception hours – and therefore our check-in times – are reduced. As you noticed, you were our only guests at check-in. Staffing a reception desk until midnight or throughout the night is simply not feasible for us. This is why, in the off-season, fees apply for late check-ins if an employee has to return to the hotel after hours to check in guests – as they are, of course, compensated for their time. You may look up standard hourly wages in the Norwegian hospitality sector online, as well as our published reception hours. We sincerely apologize if any misunderstandings occurred due to a language barrier and if you were unable to understand or accept the situation. Why you also rated the cleanliness of the hotel poorly is unclear to us. It is correct that in an old building like that not everything has the highest standard and some parts of the HOTEL do have some kind of patina caused by the historical use for more than 100years. We actually try to keep those old parts alive. The lobby was completely cleaned by staff immediately in the morning after your stay, following your nighttime use of the area for meal preparation – which we will refrain from further commenting on. We hope you still had a wonderful time in Norway and that your stays at larger hotels were more to your liking. Best regards, Your Heartbreak HOTEL

Verified reviewThe host Erik was very friendly and helpful. The facility, located in a beautiful setting, had old charm with some nice updates inside. The pub ( open on weekends) was a fun addition.
The room, particularly the bathroom, was very small.

The room was extremely small ( even for a couple it would be extremely small), claustrophobic washroom. Service was next to nothing. Wouldn't recommend.

Verified reviewIt was an older facility but very charming. The staff was super freindly and help finding us a restaurant for dinner because their cook had to leave for family issues. The location was beautiful and well worth the drive. We would stay here again.
As with all European loding they could supply more towels.
