“I chose to stay here because of the remote location (rather than in Tuatapere itself) and to see what it was like for potential future tramping trips etc. I was very impressed with the lodge manager and the hospitality she provided. She was very friendly and makes guests feel at home, had the fire lit in mornings and evenings to make the place cosy in the cold weather, and went out of her way to be of assistance if needed. I enjoyed the remoteness and quiet, the interesting drive to and from, the night sky, the comfortable bed, well equiped kitchen and the surprising addition of Netflicks and Youtube channels on TV (as well as the usual TV). It was more than the basic sleeping accommodation that I was expecting. Great that it stays open in the winter, and good to also find that it was all powered by solar energy.”
