Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

I had nothing that was negative. This was a fine place to stay!
Front desk staff were very welcoming and helpful. I arrived a bit earlier than expected and staff facilitated finishing the room prep and I could check in early. The room was very clean and there was a laundry room for guests to use during daytime hours. There was no charge to do laundry (even free detergent) and this was fantastic! The motel was just around the corner from the main street with many shops and cafes, so location was prime. There was parking for motel guests in the back of the motel with a nearby secured entrance/exit, which made loading and unloading the luggage very easy. I am DEFINITELY coming back here on my next trip to Wellington!

Crockery stored on the top shelf in the above sink cupboard made it out of reach for me as I am of shorter stature. There were plenty of alternative shelves which if used would have put the crockery within easy reach for all.

Small elevator, tight fit for 2 people with luggage.
Reception lady took our booking late due to another booking falling through. Accommodated us and we were able to rest in a clean, well appointed room. Facilities were great and room and bathroom were clean and tidy. Would definitely stay again

The spotlights in the room could have been better positioned and more available to adjust.
Front desk reception was very helpful and professional. The motel had excellent parking facililties and the rear entrance was controlled access and very convenient for loading and unloading luggage.

Nothing, it was perfect for what we needed.
Awesome service from the room upgrade, to extra milk, knowing we had little people with us. Really well thought out room and complex design, with ample off street parking. Great location and perfect for what we needed. Will definitely stay again when in Wellington. Thanks Ava team for an awesome stay.

The early morning ambulances going past early in the morning.
We enjoyed the location being so close to town, the little outdoors area but in general the actual lodge itself. I’d be happy to live there!

I could hear the guest in the room above stomping their feet
Conveniently located in Petone, room was clean and comfortable, check in was easy and friendly staff, I received a complimentary upgrade from a queen room to a king. Bed was comfy enough.

Nothing we didn't like.
Loved the accommodation. Staff were so friendly and even upgraded us! It was a lovely suprise. Everything was awesome. The location was great, walking distance to shops and restaurants, everything you need in a room. Spacious, clean, comfy and even beautiful tea cups!

Although parking is free, the spaces are very small and not suited to Utility or larger vehicles but there was free parking available on the street just outside the complex.
Great location, close to the Petone CBD. Modern amenities are very clean and tidy. Free parking. Would definitely recommend it.
