Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaSome proper blackout curtains in the two front bedrooms. We were travelling with young kids and the sun doesn't go down until after 9 and is up very early in summer so the ability to darken the rooms for their sleeps would have been better, but not a major issue at all.
Location was amazing with incredible views. House was very well appointed with everything we could need. It felt like home! Jen, the property manager, was incredible and super accessible and helpful.

AustraliaWe struggled to get the upstairs area cool, it was a very warm weather and upstairs was overheating.
The views were breathtaking. It is a very lovely home, very spacious and comfortable, easy access to QUEENSTOWN center and to all activities in the area.

AustraliaEverything was beautiful about this home, beautiful views of the lake from the home, as well as the upper terrace. It's a short drive into town, but it's definitely worth staying here.

AustraliaThe house has the bedrooms down stairs and the living accomodation upstairs, on arrival going upstairs the heat hits you, we opened the windows for some airflow and left them open that night, but still found the house to hot to sleep comfortably. The following day we shut all the windows and put the a/c on which didn't seem to make much difference to the temp, another uncomfortable nights sleep, I contacted Jen the Host and explained and her advice re the a/c was actually what we had done. The following night the temp had cooled outside so back to windows open and it was much better, Jen explained it was due to the triple glazing which was fully understandable, she also said there were fans in the house if needed. Another issue we had with sleep is that the bedroom curtains don't have black out, so coming from QLD where it is dark at 6pm every night, in Queenstown it didn't go dark until nearly 11pm so the bedroom was very bright also making it hard to sleep. On arrival we found the house quite confusing, we tried to enter the house by the downstairs front door that the house number was next to, then suddenly realised that someone else lived there, also I read somewhere that we could park in the garage or in the parking lot, yet the bins were in front of the garage. When we arrived the bins were overflowing, I messaged Jen to ask if they were being emptied soon, they were in a couple of days, then once emptied whoever lived downstairs, even though they have their own bins, they filled ours with grass making them very full again, we had to leave our bag of rubbish on top of the bin when leaving the property.
The location was great only 5 minutes by car into Queenstown, but as the property is on Fern Hill it was very steep to actually get to the property from Queenstown on foot. There is a carpark at the bottom of the steep hill though if you wanted to park there and walk into town. The surrounding area to the property (other houses) make the neighbourhood look a bit scruffy, but The Lairds Bothy is extremely well maintained and clean. The house is stunning, very clean and everything you need is there. As a family of four (2 teenagers) we were very comfortable there for 11 nights and didn't want to leave!

AustraliaThere was nothing we didn’t like, the only criticism we would say is to have black out blinds on the windows, however we still throughly enjoyed our stay.

New ZealandThe towels were a bit tired and could do with replacing. The visitor guide has a few inaccuracies, such as Queenstown Hill being a 2-minute walk. Would be nice to have a guide for using the stove top. Google sorted us though.
House was great, the European standard windows were amazing. So jealous I don't have them in my own house. Would be lovely to stay in winter and have the fire going just looking out at the mountains. Great food options close by and would totally recommend Kamana Lodge (The Nest) for dinner. We had a small issue when we got to the house, but the host sorted it for us immediately. This was hugely appreciated.

AustraliaI can't think of anything I didn't like.
The view is amazing and the location is very quiet but still within walking distance to town if you don't mind the hills. The kitchen is fantastic and well equipped. The lounge room, bedrooms and bathrooms are very good and exactly as described. I loved making a coffee every morning and enjoying the view of the lake and mountains. I don't have one bad thing to say about the house, I loved it.
