Good location, expensive and definitely not a 4 star!

    • Superior Apartment
    • Stayed 3 nights

Not so clean room; some dust here and there. fungus between tiles in bathroom. No tissues in toilet. No kettle and tea/coffee amenities in a superior apartment. No airco in a 4 start hotel. The double bed was composed of two single bed laid next to each other. Expect some space in between. The bed/mattresses were extremely soft and when you lay down you will feel springs in your body. I requested to get a more comfortable bed after getting back pain and not being able to sleep for two nights. But the hotel didn't have any extra. The sofa in the living room is more comfortable than their beds. Maybe this is their trick to attract some customer to their SPA. The breakfast area was jammed with tables next to each other and little space to walk or take food. long queue for coffee. The swimming pool is small and only 135cm deep with small jacuzzi which was always crowded. Some staff don't greet/welcome customers upon arrival/breakfast time/checkout. Hard to locate the parking at first. It is behind the entrance and you need to reserve in advance. We had no reservation and the German speaking receptionist was saying that you need reservation to be able to park there. She was not really welcoming at all. After talking to the other receptionist, we got a place to park for 50PLN per day. Overall an expensive hotel for what was offered.

We had superior apartment; it was spacious. The location is perfect. Baby crib was offered free of charge. Kettle was offered upon our request. Breakfast was fine but not superb. Indoor parking.

As for the negatives: hotel pictures available through booking.com need updating with a little more instructions and information to avoid any stress or confusion at check in. More information should be added about the particular rooms, for example: a note saying which types of rooms have stairs as there are not enough incline from the photos (Superior Apartment is apparently available with both however the option on booking doesn’t state it). Wifi is appalling - there are two options - free 2mb and 5mb that costs about 10zl per day. It is understandable that the hotel might not prioritise this over other features because not everybody desperately needs it if you have charismatic Baltic sea, sandy beach and other attractions around the corner. This place is mainly occupied by older couples who rightfully prefer strolling along the beach, and couples with 2+ kids, who did not look like they had plenty of time to 'surf the net’ anyway. However if you, who is reading this review, are someone who likes a little bit of browsing or online activity during your holiday, you may find the wifi here frustrating - it is slow, drops off very often, and is not always available (!) - data roaming and ‚Gs’ will have to come to your rescue. There are other little things that could be improved such as pillows' quality - old, hard and uncomfortable will encourage you to book a back, neck and shoulder massage at the local spa during your stay (ka-ching!).

There are a lot of pros and cons to this place. Let’s start with the positives: staff - a huge advantage of this hotel is its employees - from the ladies at the reception (Edyta from the reception was exceptional, she helped us so much!) through the restaurant staff to cleaning crew - very polite, helpful and attending. Rooms are very comfortable - we were lucky to get a larger one. Location - for those who like a lively, buzzing area around the pier, but want to escape into a quiet room afterwards - this hotel is perfect. Food - one day it was great, resulting in our whole family literally ‚rolling out’ of the restaurant as we were so full of yummy local specialities, another - we had to go and get fish and chips which was absolutely ok as there are plenty of restaurants nearby. There is a cute cafe next door as well, called Nostalgia, awesome place where you can enjoy coffee, beer, wine, spirits and magnificent desserts. You must spend an afternoon there - whether you are a people-watcher or a hide-away book reader. Oh and one more thing - to add items to your room you need to open a ‘hotel credit’ where you pay some cash in advance and use it throughout your stay rather then sign for items and pay the total owed at check out. I’m very neutral and indifferent about this - clearly the hotel management had their reasons to change the rules. Overall, I would definitely come back to Sand and highly recommend this place for a tech-free holiday, in a charming Polish coastal town, but I would email the hotel with any specific requests and requirements before confirming my stay.

    1. Size of the sleeping rooms in superior apartment. Walking area arround bed in both sleeping rooms app30cm- really hard to walk, and the space to the wall also 30cm. 2. Lights in appartment. 3. Nothing to make coffee or tea in the appartment. 4. Long but not wide bathroom with not enough light. Distance to the mirrow from the stanging place something like 80cm. So it was really hard to see anything. How to make make up? Hmm, using mirror in living room ! joke :) it should not be like that in this class hotel. 5. Spa area- small, dark, cold. Swimming pool sooo cold and only 130cm deep. Jacuzzi also cool, you can not stay there long. 6. Gym- really can someone name it gym? Old machines (bike, elliptical trainer and running) with only 1/4 of possibilities working. No air conditioning there, no possibility to put radio, musi on. 6. Breakfast area- very small, should be at least 2 times bigger. So people very staying in the line, always. 1 coffee machine for all the people- means staying inn the lane for 5-10min. The distance between tables max 50cm, so hard to walk especially with plates, glasses... 7. Staff doesn't say "hallo, good morning...". 8. Rather cool in living room with heater putted onto max position. 9. Not really nice view- railway station and some building area(?). Ok it was the worse view. We asked for possibility to change room into some different. We hard in really not niceway that they have only 4 rooms this category, so we cant change it. 10. We had impression that booking guest have not so nice rooms in there.... and they are not really wanted there.. 10. We have been in Kolberg many times and we know different hotels in this category. This one was the worst and almost the most expencive.

Very small swimming pool. Fitness room is not really a fitness room as it is located just above the swimming pool. Fitness room has no air conditioning.

Good breakfast. One coffee machine causing lines. Restaurant menu and food excellent. Spacious room with a second bathroom and sleeping room on the semi-erected floor. The funny thing about the bathroom is that it has glass walls and is fully transparent - for those who have nothing to hide. :-)

Not too big swimming pool, but could find some time to go, not too big fitness area, but we were the only ones to work out:).

Modern, sophisticated, comfortable, specious...just perfect for the relaxing weekend. Got the room of much higher standard than booked, very quiet, no sounds from the outside, close to the beach and the centre, found car spot outside, so didn't have to pay for the car park. Very friendly stuff, very delicious breakfast with every kind of dish you expect to eat in the morning, including coffee with desserts.
