The location of the the hotel is excellent for those traveling by bus as just across the road from the coach station. This is the second time I have stayed at the hotel Amaranto and I hope to be there again next year, very clean and simple and very reasonably priced.

Don't expect too much of the Old Town, very small.

Basic hotel with all thats needed. A little 'tired'. Needs a makeover. Good location for the Douro Valley.

Hotel needs urgent reform. Bedroom furniture (#207) is starting to fall apart. Heating is old and not working. Cracked tiles on the toilet abound. Old carpet full of stains. Bad window soundproofing. Sloppy cleaning (cobwebs haging from bedroom ceiling and not all used towels changed) Very poor breakfast and no one attending the breakfast room. For example, when other guests finish the eggs, there's no one to ask for more. No private parking. Definitively not deserving 3 stars ranking. I've stayed in much better 2-star hotels. Very disappointing. Avoid unless you have no other options.

The reception staff was friendly. Comfortable bed.

    Very ordinary hotel

Staff were non communicative (but that could have been casual, young weekend staff), breakfast was poor (no bread, orange juice was cheap cordial, microwave was filthy for 2 days, eggs/bacon in Bain Marie were cold because the heat was off etc etc), rooms were cramped and poorly ventilated, fittings were "tired". Basically a fairly ordinary hotel.

    Good location

The hotel needs an update. Also the plumbing was not good and the curtains were falling off the window.

    Breakfast was good.

Hotel of yesteryear. Needs a complete makeover. Very basic. Outside terrace dirty. Carpet stained. Breakfast edible but orange squash instead of juice bit mean considering where we are in the world.

Very easy access to town. Easy parking on street.

Staff are nice- for one night it just did the job.

The property is very outdated. Very old furniture, the toilet seat was broken, one of the curtains was falling off, everything in general was quite out of date and hence either broken/not working. For 75€/night we thought it was expensive for what we got.

A bit overpriced for what's on offer. We stayed at hotels in Portugal that were 20 euros cheaper per night and were just as good.

Clean, comfortable room; plenty of fresh air and sunshine in the room; comfortable bed; good breakfast.
