Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

PortugalOur mattress was a bit saggy. I guess it needs to change. Also, this time around they did not serve eggs for breakfast. It was disappointing!
This is not the first time we stay here. We love this property, its history and the staff.

PortugalThe owner and her staff maintain this beautiful large historic property to very high standards and are very welcoming and kind. We feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to stay here. And its location put us within a 10 minute flat walk to most things we wanted to see and do, and there are many delicious cafes and restaurants nearby.

CanadaThe room was central to restaurants and to points of interest. The building and rooms exceeded what I could imagine. The hostess was incredibly kind and helpful in assisting us. It is ever so unfortunate we were only one night here as I will recall this most beautiful place far into the future. The court yard with pool was picturesque. Pool towels provided. The fragrance from the linen was clean and fresh and the linen was crisp. The shower was warm and strong and plenty of hot water. Very good soaps and shampoo Breakfast had many choices and the coffee and juice was very good as the breads and cheese. There was easy parking. We booked the marble tour and our kind hostess made the phone call to assure all was in order and rather than give directions to our starting point she drove us there! We were given the opportunity to leave our bags and use the facilities after the excursion. The hospitality was exceptional. I will never forget this special place.

United States of AmericaLack of an elevator. The hotel offers 8 rooms spread over 3 floors. As it does not have an elevator, people with limited mobility should request to stay at the first floor.
Charming hotel, great location, fantastic staff, excellent breakfast, spotless! Ideal location for visiting Vila Viçosa, Elvas, Evora and Badajoz. I recommend all future guests to take the time to meet and chat with Mrs. Manuela, co-owner of the hotel. A lady of enormous culture and personal knowledge of local and regional history. Friendly and pleasant, Dona Manuela is one more reason to stay at Hotel Colegio Velho!

Absolutely amazing! The family running this property were sensitive to one's every need. Was more than an hotel. The bathrooms had amazing facilities, where marble is the local industry (see museum in Vila Vicosa). Rooms and public areas well air-conditioned. Sights in the area five-star, from those in the town to the four forts and walled city of Elvas, half an hour's easy ride away. Easy to get to from Lisbon or the South.

United States of AmericaThe host was very inviting and shared the history of the house. It is an outstanding property with a beautiful private garden and swimming pool. The room was large and comfortable. There is local marble used throughout in beautiful colors. The house is beautifully decorated with seating areas and lounges. Easy parking in front of property. Good breakfast included. I highly recommend staying here when visiting Vila Vícosa.
