Lovely hotel in a beautiful town.

The double bed was comfortable but just a small double which was a bit small for us as we are both quite large people!

This was a lovely hotel, the restoration of an old historic building had been completed sympathetically to create an interesting and comfortable boutique hotel. The staff had reserved us a parking space outside which was free. it was very close to the town centre and all amenities. Breakfast was good. lovely terrace outside to sit in the sun.

Although the room was very good, every floorboard creaked and the bed even though reasonably comfortable creaked with the slightest movement. So not the best nights sleep, which is the whole point of the hotel. A better bed would make it well worth the four stars

A beautiful boutique style hotel in an old manor house. Very friendly welcoming staff and a good restaurant area as part of hotel.

There was nothing I didn’t like.

The breakfast was fabulous. The desk staff were very very warm and friendly and helpful with information. The room was spacious and the furniture both within the room and in the common areas was all top quality and beautifully presented and cared for. The wifi worked pretty well, the train station is right next door so extremely conveneient, but not noisy at all. And the walk to the downtown was very easy.

The location near the railway station and the interconnecting bus terminal was just what made our journey so easy to accomplish. The shrubbery and the back stone wall, plus the station itself, shielded the room from most noises.

The tv in the next room was right against our wall and we could hear everything they were watching and what the hotel guests were saying.

The breakfast was disappointing. The cooked breakfast ( egg & bacon) was cold. The bain-marie was unheated. Coffee served was also a little cold. But the rest of the breakfast (fruit, meats, cheese, fruit) was excellent. The bedroom was lovely but a little cold.

The staff were excellent. The owner supplied a kettle and tea (not usual in Europe) as my wife was feeling unwell. The location was great. The property was stunning, the rooms and ambience were very sophisticated. The bar was great!

Wonderful five hundred year old building modernized with so much taste and artwork just outside train station but very quiet at night. Three minutes from a modern shopping center behind the train station with good view from the many restaurants on the top floor and an excellent supermarket. Small peaceful town with interesting historical center and a funicular up to the Temple of Santa Luzia with amazing views for miles around not to be missed. Comfortable room and excellent breakfast and friendly helpful staff.

I desperately needed a bath as I had walked over 20 km. alas a hitch with the hot water, the receptionist (sandra) immediately agreed it was not hot enough on testing. Later that night the manageress arrived with a technician she said the water was hot and no other guest had complained. She even said it was 42 degrees when hot water should be around 65 degrees to be mixed with cold thereafter. Her attitude was utterly wrong when the water was so obviously still not hot. Later I ran a bath and I insisted she test the water and only then she reluctantly admitted it was not hot enough. I have no problem with a hitch this can happen in any hotel, I have a problem with the attitude and comments of a manageress when it was so obvious there was a problem that night. To my mind I am surprised she managed to get to that position with her qualities displayed. Rest staff wonderful and highly recommend anyone to stay there

Dinner in the adjoining restaurant was horrible. Strange menu, lacking items, empty tables and a waiter who seemed disinterested in his job. I would recommend eating elsewhere. Breakfast buffet, conversely, was very nice with good variety and fresh eggs.

Rita the greeter and concierge was wonderful. When our room was too warm, she promptly moved us to another room, both were lovely and well appointed. Very attentive service from the front staff. This hotel has a great location for walking the town.

One member of staff misled us(she works at all of the group hotels we learnt later.)she said she would book a particular restaurant.....it was their day of closure, but she never came back to us). We reported the 'phone did not work, but it took the full 2 days and reminders to get it fixed. On arrival tissue box in bathroom empty and we asked 3or 4 times , but they never were replaced.

Hard beds and poor bathroom lighting...not another thing that I'd change.

We knew the location was good based on the booking.com map, that the facility was well regarded and looked beautiful from other reviewers...yet we couldn't anticipate just perfect the total package turned out to be. Best location for sound sleep and quietness, as it is a few minutes' walk to the restaurants and squares (as in, three mins) so we weren't annoyed by the sounds of the city. Stunning, clean and friendly hotel. Restaurant staff are top of the line and willing to make anything work for guests, while the front desk staff love the city so much that they are brimming with ideas and energy about your visit. Would book here again.

Lighting in room was a little dim Restaurant was closed on Sunday and Monday which we did not expect of a 4 star hotel and this was not indicated in information in room or at reception. At times service was slow in restaurant. Breakfast could have been improved with better quality coffee and a wider selection of fruit and hot food. Generally hot food was there so long that it was not edible. Room safe would have been helpful.

The beds were a bit hard for my liking. The view from the window wasn't exactly inspiring and being next to the railway station started out looking like a minus but as it turned out there are only a handful of trains a day, the double glazing and air conditioning were excellent and who spends much time looking out of the bedroom window anyway..

Without exception the staff were excellent, they were nice to deal with, provided us with good advice and information. When we asked where we could buy items for a visit to the superb beach just across the river they told us not to bother and went and dug out towels and a good sun shade for us to use.On the food side the hotel has a good breakfast bar and a great restaurant.

Possibly just our room being connected by a (locked) door to another room but the sound of the TV in the next door room came through a bit more than we'd like. Difficult to avoid in hotels though and probably not true of all the rooms due to the generally thick stone walls.

The hotel is stunning- a beautiful building wonderfully decorated and maintained. The hotel personnel were first class and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The breakfast spread was impressive and long breakfast hours conducive to a relaxing stay. The location is great for seeing the sights and going to restaurants etc. Viano has lots to see and do in terms of walks, beaches nearby, sights etc. It's busy enough to be vibrant but quiet enough to have a relaxing holiday. We'd definitely recommend it.
