It is a real built in the XIV century (yes 7 centuries ago). Very well preserved / restaured. Amazing ´azulejos´ on the walls of the corridors and everywhere else. Well kept central cloister with a garden. A beautiful church and a charming separate chapel. It really is a museum with rooms for guests. All the while the food is very good. The view across the valley beautiful.

Best to go in the late spring or fall when the weather supports outdoor activities.

It is like sleeping in a museum or visiting a part of history that inspires reflection and investigation. Our room was wonderful, spacious, with a view of the property and hills. Dinner was fabulous, especially wonderful was the crusted lamb chops and spinach. We spent time wandering through the buildings as the weather was not conducive to exploring outside.

The sofas/chairs in the rooms could use a little updating, but the beds were excellent.

The rooms we had were comfortable and cozy, with updated and modern bathrooms. Breakfast was hearty and we ate one delicious dinner in the dining room that featured local cuisine. Our stays so enjoyable because of the beauty of the convent itself, the excellent location (perched upon a mountain!), and above all the wonderful staff. They were accommodating, friendly and spoke English.

It would not take much to put wifi in the annex area.

This place is a dichotomy - with good and bad. The first thing to remember is that if you book an annex room you are NOT in the convent, the room does not have wifi, and you are shut out of the convent common areas until 8.00am when reception opens and the place is unlocked. They do mention most of this in the blurb. Other than that the place is excellent. Even annex rooms are good, Plenty of space and good furnishings. The setting is great. The pool is excellent and the pool area has wifi reception. And the restaurant is brilliant. best food in Portugal for us.

The bathroom was dirty when we arrived and I had to call the maid to clean it. Lethal bathroom, dreadfully slippery with no railings anywhere, not even in the bath where the shower is. My husband is not very mobile and has difficulty getting in and out of the tub with no grip. It also had a bad smell. The general facilities offered no help for people with limited mobility. no ramps, railings, nothing. Food was good but the restaurant is so understaffed that we waited an hour for dinner. Lighting in the room and bathroom very poor and nowhere really comfortable to sit and read a book. We wil not return although the place is very beautiful. Also, Booking.com quoted one price and we had to pay another. Not good.

There is nothing we didn't like!

We had rooms in the amazing "museum wing" completely covered in antique tiles. The entire convento surpasses the expectations set by the best pictures shared by previous guests! A perfect balance between preserving history and providing current expectations: for instance, the strongest wi-fi we had inside historical hotels. How do they manage such strong wi-fi within thick rock walls?!? Restaurant was also excellent.

Hotel with a lot of charme. Breakfast and restaurant are great, only the friendly staff should improve with the wine list - you should know the wines you offer on the menue. Rooms are spacious, clean and well kept. They could benefit from a little bit of more modern touch (coulor of textiles, drapings or paintings). It appears stylish but slightly old-fashioned. Great place to relax and hang out with your loved one....

We had a room called Double Room Cruise - Annex! Be aware that you will not be any where near the convent, not even attached to it. No feeling of staying in a convent at all. Room was okay. Also drinks around the pool area are served in glass!!!! So very very dangerous and even more so as there were children around too. Some of the older staff need to smile more and take a leaf out of the books from the younger service staff who were all lovely, friendly and helpful.

The tranquility and the larger pool area was lovely & relaxing. We only eat small dinners so opted to have São Paulo salads on both nights, first night in the cloister, second in the snooker area. Both occasions the food was very good and lovely service too. We enjoyed being able to watch the football on a large screen too! Breakfast was to our taste but need to offer some healthy cereals.

They have flies at breakfast. The bathroom is quite small. The shower drain run slowly, we had to stand on dirty water (O Cruzeiro section). We notified but nothing was done. The sofa of the room was finished! The door-lock difficult to open. Front desk forgot to provide a plan of the site and mention the self-guided tour, which is worth doing. The site is quite big and there are no directions to the main pool which is lovely. Looks like they don't want much publicity. There are no signs of the hotel coming from Estremoz.

The site is a museum in itself. Beautiful and peaceful location with a nice view over the landscape. Excellent for a week-end of relaxation. The service at dinner is excellent. Nice choice of wines. The rooms are clean, have good dimensions and the climatization works fine. They provide bath robes and slippers.

The room we received (No. 145) was much smaller and of lower quality than what was shown on Booking.com when we booked. There was no sitting area with comfortable seats just two hard wood chairs squeezed in a small room. The room was also dark and slightly dingy. Finally the room was also located next to a store room from which there was strong smell of petroleum fumes and as the night went on these leaking into the room. We suspect we had the last room available in the outbuildings and as we arrived late so we were given the worst one but we feel misled compared to what was advertised when we booked. Wi-Fi didn't work in room.

The main convent buildings were beautiful and in a lovely location in the hills and the staff very friendly and nice.

Bad coffee at breakfast (quite shocking, as this is Portugal), no wifi in rooms, TV channels are Spanish cable channels with very few non-Spanish dubbed programs, TV screen is very small - difficult to watch, tiny wardrobe full of stuff -- 2 bathrobes, spare duvets, safe all cramped together leaving very little space for hanging guest's clothes, weak lamps in the annex rooms -- quiet bad for reading, bathroom could use an upgrade.

The azulejos decorating the convent are very impressive; Beautiful, quiet location; excellent maintenance of a historic monument; lovely gardens; friendly reception staff; cozy lounges; very clean; good bathroom amenities; large room relatively basic but adequate; daily complimentary 2 small bottles of water, thick bathrobes.

If rated as just a place for accommodation, it is probably just a 3 star hotel with a rating no more than 8. If you are not interest in visiting a historic monastery, better stay somewhere in town.

It is a historic monastery located in the beautiful mountain with history dated back to the 4th century, and this is why we stay here. Although it was only partly restored, it is still very attractive with lots of Portuguese style tiles decorating the walls, a beautiful chapel and praying room, and restaurant with paintings on the ceiling. It is definitely worth the extra money to stay at the Museum wing which is the heart of the monastery. Allow at least 1-2 hours to explore the beauty of the monastery.

Make sure you understand that the rooms in the annex do NOT have WiFi. You need to be staying in the main building in order to have WiFi from your room. We upgraded from the annex to the main building once we saw the accommodations and lack of WiFi. Some of the furniture could use a refresh, seems a bit dated but I suppose this is aligned with the character of the site.

It's like staying at a museum. The buildings and blue tile collections are amazing. I was impressed by the setting of the dining room. Make sure to take the time to visit all of the convent, well worth the time. The food was way better than I expected based on the reviews I had read before travelling and was a good value.

The room was very cold. Staff were very helpful and provided an extra heater.

The history of the place is amazing. The amount of tile, the various areas in the Convento and the history make it an amazing place. We also enjoyed the rural setting. Would love to go again in the summer.

This is a 12th c Convent! You sleep in (upgraded) monks' rooms! The walls are covered with one of the largest tile collections in the country. The rooms are very good. The food was excellent. The staff was outstanding. The grounds and setting are beautiful.

Such a beautiful hotel with amazing restoration & decor.
    • Couple

    1. be careful when you book because the standard rooms are not actually within the convent part of the hotel!!!! If you take one of these you should be aware it is quite basic, more like staying in a motel. It cost us 35 euros per night to upgrade, but it was well worth it! 2. the pillows were quite hard and bulky

Such a beautiful hotel with amazing restoration & decor. The staff were friendly and very informative, giving us a guided tour of the interesting interior features. The views go on for ever & the the tranquil location is ideal for a relaxing break.

The pool areas are small and sometimes its hard to find a spot and chairs because they're all taken. The restaurant at the clauster has only a few tables one day we couldn't find an empty one outside. More tables would be welcome! Our room light could be stronger, it's hard to read a book.

The building itself is amazing, really beautifull. All staff very friendly and helpfull. The location is a perfect spot to relax for a few days specially if you want to run away from crowded places in summer.
