The journey to find the hotel -- which would have been impossible without Google Maps or similar --- '' The Rota do Romanico '' A very twisty route which seemed to go on forever --! I think it might have been better if we had approached from Porto --- ( we came from Lamego to the east of Porto ) but this is a guess -- it was certainly an adventure --- but worth it to find this gem!

A lovely welcome from the girls on reception - We were offered a delicious glass of Port when we arrived. We had a free upgrade to a room with a spectacular view . The hotel was VERY quiet in February. Dinner - Delicious prawn starter - and for me followed by local Trout - would have been better if it had been cooked at the last minute --- so rather dry and horrid soggy vegetables --- we ate our prawns too slowly! Delicious bottle of wine

The location of this hotel is spectacular, right between the historical River Douro and River Bestança, close to the incredible N-222 road. Had an amazing view from my room during my stay. As it was off season, the hotel was pretty empty, which was not a problem as I was able to get great breakfast and dinner in the property. There's free parking right next to the hotel. There are many small towns nearby to get supplies if needed and great opportunities for hiking and exploring.

Location a bit far from Douro wine farms. Too few eating options in nearby area. Need kettle in a hotel room for early morning coffee.

Great views and facilities. Excellent gym. Food was way above par.

We had a perception that the restaurant and bar were slightly understaffed. Difficulty in finding staff to obtain drinks from the bar

Beautiful location. bedrooms and terrace have a lovely view over the Douro. Easily accessible from the local station. Good breakfast choice and we were accommodated for a slightly early breakfast to allow us to catch a train. Very pleasant hard working staff. Good value for money.

I cannot fault anything. Maybe only the road to get to the hotel. Very narrow, high and sharp bends.

Menu and service in the restaurant could have been better. The roads to the big wineries was very narrow and took more than an hour.

The view is outstanding! The breakfast is really good and rich! The location by the river is marvolus.

The hot breakfast was ice cold ... and that is not good at all. The bathrooms and rooms need to be upgraded - wallpaper is peeling off; the tiles in the bathroom are awful; the shower over the bath is very old fashioned. The bath is like an ice rink - I fell over in the bath.

Lunch was poor, I had pasta with chicken & bacon, chicken was dry and not cooked from a fresh chicken breast, bacon pieces included rind and bone.

The location, view, pool area and room view! Set evening dinner menu was tasty and good value.

The soundproofing was terrible. I needed to move rooms due to the noise I could here from the neighbouring guests. The room I moved too resolved the noise problem but was an inferior room, but I wasn’t offered compensation for this. I also didn’t like that the gym is located near rooms so closed at 8pm and opened at 10.30am. Both these times are inconvenient for guests who are busy all day.

Location was excellent with a lovely view. I enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast was adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful
