The only thing. The rooms are none smoking which is great, but as guests are allowed to smoke on the balcony it drifts across and makes it quite unpleasant for a none smoker to sit out. Especially if you have a chest complaint. I wish it was completely none smoking with a smokers area away from the rooms completely.

The surroundings are stunning, the cleanliness is amazing, the breakfast choice was incredible but one thing that stands out is the staff who are, warm, friendly and helpful. From reception, waiters and waitresses, domestic staff and gardeners everyone has a smile and a welcome. A good staff reflects good management.

The facilities/bedrooms are extremely well appointed, however they felt quite cold and were lacking some "cool" vibes. The hotel very much attracts older guests, and there is a definitely lack of atmosphere. To me it felt a bit like a luxury private clinic in Switzerland.

Quinta Da Casa Branca for me is all about the amazing garden, truly spectacular, so beautiful and relaxing. The hotel is very quiet and a great place to recharge your battery. The buffet breakfast was delicious, great quality ingredients and a lot of choice. Nice outdoor terrace (with a spectacular view) to enjoy your start of the day. The staff is very efficient and helpful, really great service.

As the water supply was contaminated in Madeira due to heavy rain, it was important to be informed. Sadly, noone felt they should impart this information until fellow travellers explained. So most of the holiday was ruined with stomach upsets. Not much chance to try restaurants!

The hotel was lovely and staff excellent (apart from not informing us of the water problems on the island).

The menu for an evening meal was limited and a little over ambitious. The atmosphere was subdued. However there are many good restaurants within walking distance. The weather was not good with lots of rain so we would have preferrred to eat at the hotel a couple of evenings but chose not to because of the menu.

The staff were so friendly, properly trained and nothing was too much trouble. The gardens were delightful and beautifully kept. The standard of cleanliness was high. Fantastic breakfast.

Sadly the weather was disappointing but even the ever obliging staff couldn't change that!

The location is beautiful, the gardens are a mini botanical garden themselves. Everything is extremely well looked after, from the rooms, to the gardens to the dining areas. The staff are exceptional, nothing is too much trouble. The main accommodation area is contemporary in feel, bright and airy; more recently the old manor house has been converted into accommodation which has a more traditional feel. Either way, it's very comfortable. I can recommed the hot stones massage!

We asked for a quiet room and we certainly got that, although I think most rooms would meet that criteria. A lovely quiet hotel. We stayed bed and breakfast and that was excellent. Except for Premium Rooms, rooms ar starting to look tired, especially the bathrooms which really need updating. Rooms are comfortable though.

Excellent Service by very friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful breakfast buffet and cooked food on request inclusive in price. The garden rooms have French windows opening to the lovely garden and great for lazy sunbathing. Hotel is set in beautiful gardens in a nice, quiet area approx. 20 mins walk or few mins bus or 6 Euro taxi ride to centre by cathedral.

Eating arrangements were not as good as they ought to be at this price. The breakfast pavilion was too small for the number of guests and got busy with hassled staff at times. There was a bar/evening restaurant (less smart than the grand one in the quinta, though still very nice) which was again not big enough for demand: you might reserve a table for 8pm but if people were still drinking before going out, you might have to wait for a bit. Staff dealt with the difficulties well.

Modern rooms in lovely gardens. The busy outside world seemed miles away. Superior room has a double lounger and a chair on a terrace - shaded by strange sliding shutters. Friendly staff, and a general atmosphere of luxury. The Restaurant - in the old Quinta, was elegant and grand - all synchronised lifting of silver domed food covers and the like. Great for a celebration.

Service in manor house restaurant sometimes a little slow. Eat in the bar if you are in a hurry. No fault of the hotel but average age of clientèle is a bit high. Possibly a general statement for Madeira. We are in our late 50s and were amongst the youngest. If you are under 55 - do come and make the place a little younger...

Overall very clean. However we experienced some sloppy cleaning of the bathroom floor, but this was corrected immediatly upon mentioning it to the staff. A bigger size bed (instead of the queen size) with a more firm matrass would have been the finishing touch for an excellent stay.

The room was too hot to sleep properly. The issue was reported but not resolved, probably due to centralized temperature settings. Many wooden panels looked as if they could use a fresh touch of paint. Internet slow, and no amenities like complementary water. Breakfast is perfectly adequate but five star hotels in Portugal typically offer a wider selection. With some minor touches this could be a great place. We did enjoy our stay but felt the Quinta didn't quite live up to the high standards set by five star hotels in Portugal

Nothing could have been better, except a longer stay. The hotel and staff excelled.

Outstanding accommodation, location and staff. We were upgraded to the Manor House accommodation which is exceptional and closer to 6 star than 5. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone who wishes to enjoy a rare example of excellence

We had noisy neighbours for one of the days we stayed (part of a group travelling together, so lots of loud converstions between the individuals in nearby garden rooms) , but this was only during the day in our private garden so we just went off for the day instead!.

Breakfasts were wonderful, but the stars of this hotel are the staff. Superb.

As mentioned above the a la Carte dining restaurant is disappointing

The service in general is fantastic , very helpful staff. The garden is one of the tropical topics of this hotel . The rooms are comfortable and superb beds for endless sleeps with perfumes of the garden . The restaurant for dinner is not outstanding and extreme priced , the daily menu is poor and service chaotic in contrast with the breakfast garden restaurant which is one if the best breakfast we had in years. Madeira has an outstanding boutique hotel ....,, a hidden secret on the island. Keep up the great hospitality we come again ...,

Much too strong to say 'bad experience'! Massage spa treatment directly next to the gym. area so background noise of exercise machinery, doors, and conversation...good massage but would have been better in a quieter location.

Visited with my daughter. We both really loved our time at this hotel, and in Madeira. Kindly helpful service with a smile. Excellent breakfast choice in a garden setting, a great start to the day. Light and bright, modern design of hotel, in landscaped gardens, well tended. Lovely night views to Funchal on the hillside, lots of twinkling lights.

Major point: service in country house restaurant (limited capacity) very slow - 1.25 hours wait for main course which in one case was bland nouvelle cuisine cod not kept warm enough. Minor points: water in shower only just warm enough; lack of operating instructions for use of shower (quite complicated, in particular when trying in vain to obtain hotter water); shower in bath with only partial screen meant bathroom floor tended to get wet and slippery; could display more information on public transport and trips in the reception area to help guests plan their stay.

Beautiful, well-kept gardens with views up towards the mountains - also garden views from reception, all rooms and breakfast pavilion/terrace; spacious, clean room with tasteful decor and individual patio with sunbeds and view; good selection of food at breakfast available for early and later starts; helpful staff on reception e.g. supply bus timetables on request, assist in booking trips. Good choice of inexpensive/moderate price restaurants 10 minute walk down hill. Bar with light evening meals available on site. Bus to centre or along coast runs past hotel (although not very frequent); choice of other buses including airport bus 10 minute walk (uphill on return trip)

Location was great, just a short walk into town. This felt like a luxury hotel, the staff were extremely helpful. Comfy bed, very quiet and relaxing. We had a meal here and we both agreed the food was superb, we are still talking about it now! A place to definitely come back to, loved Madeira.

The rooms and the setting in the lovely gardens and the consistently pleasant and very helpful staff. The truly excellent breakfasts. The library (my favourite room). The Drinks Party on the Tuesday evening when AT LAST one had the chance to meet other people as otherwsie people tend to stay as couples all the time! We found dinner in The Manor House both expensive and pretentious in its cuisine and would have much preferred more homely cooking. We only went once. The bar cafe is a possible alternative but we much preferred the restaurants in town NOT the tourist traps but the delightful places where local Madeirans go and the food is imaginative, homely and not expensive. Good bus service in and around Funchal and splendid walks up along the levadas at high altitudes.

The restaurant was a little too fussy for our informal taste. Very professional waiters. If you like to be made a fuss of, this is for you. It is quite a walk into town but there are many relaxed, informal and cheaper restaurants just down the hill towards the seafront.

High quality standard of décor. Lots of space. Lovely helpful staff. Beautiful gardens and heated outdoor pool. Lovely breakfast.

Lack of proper welcome. left to find our own way to bedroom, down longest bleakest hotel corridor ever,!!! then had to fumble for light switch on entering pitch black bedroom,(non adjustable ,window shutter doors closed, although it was daytime) only to find needed to put key in electric light switch to get some lights on, miserable arrival on holiday !! Left hotel following morning having intended to stay 5 nights.
