Our room faced the Main Street where a transit train runs by, it was a bit noisy. The train did seem to stop running late in the evening.

The hotel staff are very helpful. Beds and linens were great. The breakfast was good; breads, cheese, eggs, bacon, yogart etc. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance.

This was emergency accommodation as Easyjet had left us high and dry. We only had an 8 hour stop-over in Porto but this family room was exactly what a fed up & stressed family needed; nice beds and a powerful shower. We sadly didn't use other facilities or get to see anything outside the vicinity of the hotel.

The rooms need urgent refurbishment, outdated decoration and with an unpleasant smell of dump. Had to change rooms as my bath was leaking to the room below.

Competitively Priced Rooms and an Average Hotel Experience
    • Leisure trip
    • Solo traveller
    • Double Room
    • Stayed 1 night

The hotel room was a bit drab compared to the common areas of the hotel, and the spring mattress creaked when moving around. Also, the room was a bit small as was the wall-mounted television but this is moderately understandable considering the sub €35 double-room booked.

Conveniently located in the city of Matosinhos near Porto, the staff were friendly and the common areas of the hotel (e.g. television lounge) were exceedingly well equipped and inviting. There was also free street parking during night hours nearby.

The weather ; / 4 days of rain...but when the sun was out, it was excellent.

I booked this hotel on the strength of its 3* rating and the photos of the rooms. I paid €60 for a room, which is a high price for a single in Portugal. The room I was given was nothing at all like the photo. It was small, with no air circulation, and not worth €30. I gave the hotel staff my thoughts in the morning, kindly and without blame. They admitted that it was a lousy room, but their justification was that all the good rooms were already taken. So I requested a refund of €30 to compensate for the fact that the hotel had misled me with the photos. They declined, and offered me only a complimentary expresso coffee! Do not consider that this hotel is as it appears in its photos, and do not expect any customer service if you have a legitimate complaint.

We visited Matosinhos, the beach suburb of Porto in the off-season, so our experience may not be typical. However, we found this Hotel to be comfortable, delightful and a great bargain. We can't understand why Porto Mar Hotel isn't more highly rated.

Tired. Friendly staff. Suite in Portuguese translates as more beds in the room. Handy for local rustic fish restraunt , beggars and cat house. Nightly public brawling an added attraction

Rooms are very small and everything is old: bathroom, forniture, tv, carpets... and our bed was tiny!

The second time we stayed here there were a strange smell in the room.

Worth its price. Located close to the blue line of Porto's metro Rua Brito Capelo stop, so you're about 40 minutes away from Porto center. There's the sport bar with a very hospitable owner which is open from about 8 am to 3am (except Sundays) and a mini market the next door to the hotel which are the advantages.

The beds are short if you are used to modern size. A little old interior but in good shape.

Just some small distance to beach area. The trams in the street are not a problem about noise.

breakast: the least you can imagine, or less. I said to the manager, there was no ham and cheese. The answer was, please wait the servant is preparing. When I got out "without breakfast", the servant was taking a coffee in a coffee shop near the hotel.

The simpathy of the staff, with the exception of one person in the breakfast service.
