Would have liked more drawer space in the bedroom, nearly had a "domestic" deciding who was going to have the 3 drawers! also the undersheet on the bed got very hot during the night, this was rectified I took it off!

Friendly staff, great pool area with towels and sunbeds, a great place to relax and read, very peaceful. A short walk through the park leads into town with a vast selection of bars, restaurants and cafes, something to suit every budget.

Hotel located on a steep-sloping side-street so not so good for those with gammy legs, but don't let that put you off.

Our entire stay at Madeira Bright Star hotel was excellent. All staff made us feel very welcome and were most helpful with requests and dietary needs. We would not hesitate to book this hotel again, and look forward to the next occasion that we do !!

The undersheet had a plastic lining. The room safe, free in many hotels, was subject to a charge.

Clean room; hot water; large room with adequate storage space but not much else. Wide range of TV channels. The hotel is within 15 mins walk of the town centre but there are frequent buses too. A stop for the airport bus is quite close. There is a clutch of decent restaurants nearby. Breakfast is OK but not exciting in a spacious breakfast room. Fruit juice commented on by an earlier reviewer is now at full strength. Taking account of the price, all this represents good value. I would stay again if re-visiting Madeira.

Staff were great and helpful. Breakfast was good. Our car wouldn't fit in the limited space they had. Street parking was fine but you had to pay for max of 4 hrs (not the hotels fault). Will be back for sure. Located close to the Casino and city was 10mins away. • Stayed 4 nights

It's a very 'functional' hotel, but not very cosy. Breakfast was ok but the pre-cooked eggs were cold by the time we served ourselves. The air-con wasn't working the entire time we were there, for which they apologised. There was no tea/coffee/water supplied in the room and no iron or ironing board. The pillows were lumpy and too thick. The safe in the room didn't work unless you paid a supplement first. The balcony overlooks half a dozen other hotels and you can only see a sliver of the sea when you stand on the balcony and look to the left. The biggest downside is the fact that 300 meters away a huge hotel is being built and the noise of the construction work was heard all day long from 8am. Fortunately, it should be finished by October 2018 which will make it quieter.

The hotel is excellent value for money. Our 4 night stay only cost 265EUR including breakfast. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was spotlessly clean and large. We had the only big balcony in the hotel (ask for room 102!) There was a bidet in the bathroom too which is an added plus in my opinion.

The staff are friendly, especially the man with glasses, (sorry forgot the name) he offered us so many useful information even before we checking in, he is originally from Madeira so we can feel his passion when he was introducing his hometown. Unfortunately during our stay we had other receptionists, most are nice and friendly. The location is perfect when you need to live close to city center. There's no sea view from the balcony, and not far away a massive hotel is under construction.

I hate this section as it implies that you always find criticism in somewhere. Well it's suffice to say that the building works on the gargantuan new hotel close by can be a little noisy some days but then Funchal seems to be building most places. However, it's not intrusive and doesn't start ultra early or until late. Oh and the fruit juice needs looking at, it seems to have been watered down to almost water, undrinkable!

The Bright Star is like a little boutique hotel with the location just right for the centre of town. It's around 10 - 15 minute walk into town along a lovely promenade or you can walk via he main road which has lots of coffee shops to help you along the way. It has a great little supermarket a 2 minute walk away and enough restaurants for you to try each for a week. The foyer is spacious, beautiful to sit and relax in with clean, bright furniture. The pool is a bonus and with not many people choosing to sit by it there were plenty of beds. The room is a fair size with a balcony overlooking the sea (side view but who cares). The bath has a fair size step so it could be awkward getting in and out of the shower (maybe change??) and it's great that the room gets cleaned up very day. Good value for money for where it is...

-It’s not a full 4* hotel strictly speaking. -There are some differences between pictures on Booking and reality. -It was still cold in the room in February and the ac apparently was working only for cooling, but they provided us an electric heater which was very useful. -In the first night water was cold. Big shower but with plastic curtains, no borders down and a lot of water was spreading outside on the floor. Uncomfortable sink (small opening and deep). -Some dirty or broken towels. No daily resupplying of toiletries. -Uncomfortable beds. - Surcharge to use the safe box (2 eur /day). -No tea/coffee facilities in the room. -My friend is a smoker and when we made the reservation on Booking we could choose a smoking room for him. Now the hotel is non-smoking throughout. Booking was unable or unwilling to deal this problem for us.

-We enjoyed our stay. -Good value for money. -Good location. Easy to walk to the City Center, close to public transport (several bus lines) and the airport shuttle Aerobus (~45 mins.), supermarket and restaurants nearby. -Kind staff (especially Sergio and Larisa). -Breakfast ok, but can be improved. -Big room but empty, poor furnished. Fridge in the room (they gave us one more access card for the room to keep it permanently in the electric power slot). Big terrace with nice view to the pool (from some rooms view also to the ocean). Big bathroom but ineffective ventilated. -Cleaning ok (except the towels). -Very, very good WiFi. - Free public Internet laptop near reception desk. -You can book from the reception tours or trips for all the island. -We’ll probably stay here again next time in Madeira.

It is a little unfair to comment on this as Funchal is hilly however the hotel is on a particularly steep hill and would not be an entirely suitable location for everyone. Taxis are plentiful and relatively cheap at 5 euro from hotel to centre of Funchal and the hotel are always willing to order one.

Our room and all the rooms have a balcony all are positioned to capture and make the fullest use of the sun which we were able to do on the sunny days we had. Reception and bar area very welcoming. Pool small with a few loungers but a welcome feature. Staff very helpful particularly Ricardo and Jelder. 20 minute walk to Funchal centre whoever suffient selection of places to eat and drink close by.

There is some noise from the building site up the road, but you can close the balcony doors to shut it out and I was out all day anyway.

Very clean and comfortable, also being a small hotel you did not have crowds of people jostling at breakfast, where there was enough choice of fruit, pastries, different breads and spreads, cheese, meats and hot stuff.Good location with plenty of restaurants nearby, berninis did very well but try the others along the top road, such as Jacaranda, very good value. There was no shade by the pool. Parasols would have been good. The bar was always empty so no atmosphere but the hotel is small. There was a forest fire while we were there which was close to Funchal. It would have been good to have had an update from the hotel as it was quite scary one night when there was ash and smoke in the air. Some hotels evacuated their guests. We were reprimanded for taking placemats to the tables outside for breakfast. Apparently there are special placemats for outside. Communicate this or lay up the tables outside as a lot of people ate outside for breakfast.

This is a small hotel with a cosy feel. It is also very quiet. There is a sea view from the balconies. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. There are lots of restaurants nearby. Good choice for breakfast, including some hot food. Rooms are spacious. Nice pool.

One of the greatest hotels I've stayed at. All perfect. Large room. Giant comfortable bed. Big balcony. Smily staff. Good location between the zona hoteliera and the down town. If ever back to Funchal I wouldn think a second if to go back to Madeira Bright. Value for money - fantastic: we paid 50€/night double room.
