There is construction works on the 3rd floor which made it impossible to relax in the morning as all we could hear was drilling. The works were necessary and should be finished soon. It meant we couldn’t relax by the pool or in our rooms after 9am.

Staff was lovely. The views are incredible. The breakfast was generous. The hotel is immaculate as they are constantly cleaning. Restaurant was fantastic. Try the Port!!

Good location in 15 minutes from airport by car, just near the ocean. Repairing work was held on the roof during the whole stay after the storm. Breakfast is acceptable but don't expect too much. Quite atmospere. A few restaurants nearby. Free parking.

Wasn't that impressed with the food in the restaurant for the evening meal (had 4 meals, 2 good 2 mediocre). Having said that the staff were excellent, and the restaurant had great views. There weren't many other places to eat nearby (we were on B&B rate). The best place (Zarcos) was about 1km towards Funchal

great position overlooking funchal. Roof gardens were nice. Pool was a bit cold (it was January), no doubt it is warmer later in the season. Shuttle bus was useful (runs twice a day, not Sunday). or can get bus into town (10-15 mins) to save finding somewhere to park

THE PRICES OF THE FOOD AND DRINK SPOILT OUR STAY IN A WAY THE BEERS WERE NEARLY TWICE THE PRICE AS FUNCHAL TOWN AND THE FOOD IN THE RESTAURANT ,ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS AMAZING,,[RESTUARANT AND FOOD THAT IS]WAS ALSO OVER PRICED

THE BEDS WERE REALLY COMFORTABLE AND THE BEDDING WAS GOOD QUALITY. THE LOCATION AND VEIWS WERE EXCELLANT ..THE ROOFTOP GARDENS WERE LOVELY TOO WITH MANY DIFFERANT AREAS TOO RELAX.

Booking.com issues - booking.com said there was a shuttle service from airport this is not true so we ended up hiring a car, which turned out to be for the best anyway as we were able to see so much more of the island, had we not have. We booked a double room and got two single beds pushed together. If I were to book again, I would email the hotel to make sure that I would be getting what I booked.

The hotel was in such a beautiful location, views are stunning. Lovely pool area and very friendly staff in both hotel and restaurant.

Ok hotel but pricey during the winter as you cannot really use the terrace areas

    • Double or Twin Room with Sea View
    • Stayed 5 nights

Walls were thin, floors were squeaky, bed was firm and blankets were the same you would see in Thailand. Showerheads are in need of urgent replacing as the shower experience is painful. The sauna on the top terrace does not really resemble a real sauna, it's more a small wooden dark box, it should be renovated with glass windows to see the surroundings. The hotel is a bit pricey during the winter as you cannot really use the terrace areas so you could opt for a cheaper hotel. The minibar is laughably expensive (4e for water?). The hotel cleaning staff had their cart just in front of our room every day and liked to argue and yell in the next room with the repair staff, so you will want to leave the hotel during the daytime.

The breakfast variety was ok, but not great. The parking area had plenty of room. The sights from the hotel were fantastic but if you are active you would get the same sights as you move around the island anyways. I might recommend this hotel during the summer but it is too pricey during the winter as you cannot really use your balcony or the terrace areas so in the end it is just a half-empty hotel with ok rooms. Some of the staff was really nice.

Being further out of town, the bus schedule was infrequent to get back to the hotel, so I had to eat more in the hotel restaurant than I might have preferred.

Housekeeping was phenomenal. They noticed that I'd taken the extra blanket down, so they added warm blankets to my sheets partway through my stay. Twice, I stayed in my room until after lunchtime before leaving, and assumed I wouldn't get my room made up. They managed to do it both times anyway. Great location for taking the #39 bus (schedule provided at check-in) for 1.95E each way to Funchal so you don't have to worry about parking or booking the complimentary shuttle. The view from the bay-view rooms was stunning.

Not given the pre-booked seaview room but a back room facing into the cliff side and with balcony view of kitchen waste area. Only by squashing into the very back corner of the balcony could a side view of Funchal Bay be seen. Queried this room allocation and told that only one seaview room was available. Went to see this and it was unfortunately VERY smoky. It did however have a morning sun balcony overlooking small road and open sea . Smoke was severe and being asthmatic I went reluctantly back to no view cliff room. Later suggested we try opening patio doors and airing smoky room. Away from room all day. Returned at night, sat there for an hour, before feeling ill with the unshifted smoke. A frustrated and curt receptionist, probably tired, usually pleasant, told me nothing could be done. Hotel full. Sent for manager who was very pleasant and who agreed room was painfully smoky and would need a "bomb" treatment. Night 1 spent back in the rear room. Next morning room adjacent to smoky room came free. Perfectly acceptable. Moved in. My three-day relaxing stay in Ocean Gardens started on the second day. Rooms are quaint and a little jaded; bath plugs can be missing (I asked for one at reception). NO KETTLE IN ROOM meant going to bar to ask for hot water : awkward asking bar staff for something so basic as hot water ! The restaurant is seemingly not part of the hotel, and staff were generally helpful, sometimes very slow, and one waiter seemed more interested in his own attractiveness agenda than listening. New Year fireworks experience from hotel roof very much marred for hotel guests by too many outside champagne celebration tickets being sold in addition to the hotel and restaurant's gala dinner guests. TV camera crew on roof terrace and too many revellers for the space, meant that hotel guests could feel quite unable to enjoy the hotel they had booked for the New Year fireworks view of Funchal Bay.

Beautiful small rooftop gardens immaculately tended with lovely plantings. Pool very cold and medium-sized yet lovely, as were rooftop loungers, Zen-themed massage facilities. Lounge comfortable and welcoming Staff did their utmost to help Attached restaurant served varied food of good quality and staff were generally very pleasant and helpful. Room, hotel and corridor cleaning is spotless. Reception staff are generally very helpful and pleasant.

The Internet needs to be global, not having 2 different locations for wifi, e.g.swimming pool and the Terrace Bar.

No wifi in the rooms, although very good/fast in the public areas. No pavements/sidewalks on the road so dangerous to walk out, but frequent bus service with stops at the hotel.

Comfortable large rooms, all with sea view. Good breakfast, good restaurant (at least a la carte) with huge wine list ( about 110 wines!) at modest prices for the quality. Delightful roof gardens immaculately maintained. Car access easy from the freeway close by.

    Absolutely nothing!

Close to Funchal but set on hillside with stunning views of the harbour and ocean from our room balcony - picture postcard views. Excellent staff on reception, breakfast room (hot/cold buffet with sparkling wine!) and restaurant where we enjoyed well cooked fish/grilled meats on 2 evenings of our stay. Check out the wines! Hotel beautiful and very clean. Huge bathroom. Our 5 day stay was too short! Easy to go into/return Funchal by bus just outside the hotel, taxi good alternative at between 10-15 euros each way. We hired a car, hotel has car parking but may not be sufficient in peak season.
