Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

PortugalThe internet connection was very bad or not at all. The distance to the centre is quite substantial and not easy to use public transportation, so having to travel with Uber at least twice daily, makes the small break quite costly. There was nowhere to hang our wet towels except for the chair on the terrace.
There was only a small view of the ocean if you stand outside on the terrace. The hostess had a basket of Madeira bananas for us that was very nice. There were 2 beautiful cats that were always at our door sleeping and greeted us everyday.

United KingdomThere is no reception so it was a little bit difficult to find the right property. There is no daily room cleaning so if you are staying for a little longer it is a small problem with rubbish, toilet paper etc. Be prepare for mosquitos.
Very good location, nice and quiet area. Room was good, value for money. We enjoyed it.

RomaniaHeating and air conditioning systems were not present - not that Madeira's climate would make them necessary for more than a couple of days per year...
Location is wonderful, on a cliff just outside the city overlooking Praia Formosa. The backyard is large and well endowed with luxurious vegetation, sunbeds and an open-air kitchen.

PolandThe common space like kitchen require cleaning a bit more often. The rooms are very cosy however there is no hanger in the bathroom nor any shelf to put your shampoo on (just a suggestion of improvement).
This house is located in very calm and quiet area, thus you won’t have there many tourists and touristic restaurants and pubs. Around the house there are banana fields so you can enjoy this view. The house is very well equipped - kitchen, place to rest and relax. Rooms are big and clean. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. We were getting basket of fresh bananas every morning 😊

PolandIn the very bottom apartment where we were at, the wifi connection could be reachable only from bathroom or from outside of the apartment i.e. garden or stairs that were leading to the street. There were not many sockets in the apartment which with more than 2 people would be problematic to charge all electronics
The owner was really positive, nice and helpful .The apartment was really spacious, it had terrace outside, shared outside kitchen, outside shower, outside bqq and was surrounded by banana plants.

UkraineThey don’t provide shampoo but when we asked they gave us it without any problems and everything we were asking for. We’re very grateful for it! The owners are very friendly and nice people. We felt there like at home.
They have very well-furnished kitchen. You can cook whatever you want there. And we also had nice view on the ocean. But not all of the rooms have it. The place is quiet and it takes about 20- 30 minutes to get Funchal from there. Bus stop number 1 is 1 -2 minutes from the apartment. You can also walk to Camara de Lobos or even to Funchal on the beautiful seaside but need to find the entrance to it.

HungaryIt was hard to find it, because in the Google maps showed a different place, moreover the other side of the street. The furniture is quite old, could be improved a bit.
It’s a good starting point for exploring the island. Large and spacious apartment with a nice and big bathroom. The owner was very kind and helpful. Parking is not possible inside and in this street, but the apartment is very close to main road, and every day we had parking place next to the road.

Very friendly hosts (Joana and Luigi speaks english), easy communication via booking.com. Fully equipped kitchen so you can make food at home. Close to beach and promenade. Supermarket within 15 min walking (also buses going all the time). In total, great value for money! Arranged flat-rate taxi from airport (€40). Arranged rental car, fully covered insurance, paid cash (no credit card needed, €38/day). Bus to and from the airport with route 9 (company SAM) to "Praia Formosa" about 15 minutes walking distance. Cost €5 one way (50 minutes).

UkraineWe had some troubles to find the place as maps showed us another house. Unfortunately the door in the bathroom didn't close at all it was opening every time the wind blow from the window so we used chair to hold it . The shower was nice and worm but the door didn't close properly and one evening the water was cold as we probably had only one boiler for all house. The room wasn't properly separated from another one we could hear our neighbors as they have been in our room. It was huge and nice bed but it was made from two that is not double bed that we asked for. Generally the furniture was very old and bed's head was falling apart.
The owners have been very nice and welcomed us with Madeira vine and a branch of local bananas that was really nice and sweet of them. We like the location and area around. Although we have been using a scooter as at Christmas time buses didn't work properly. It's just 30 mins walk to the restaurants area or 5 mins drive. 15 mins to Funchal. Outside kitchen was nice had anything that you might need to cook the only thing that it was a bit far away and we needed to walk from second floor around the house through the rest area. The best thing was super powerful heir dyer thank you for this. It was quite warm in side although we needed to buy anti mosquitos fumigator.

United KingdomInitially we got the room that didn't meet our expectations and the photos. Instead of having the room with a balcony and ocean view we got the room towards the terrace with shared stares, view to the wall of neighbour villa and not good smell. So that it was impossible to open the window or the door and keep private atmosphere. We spent three nights in that room and got the expected one afterwards which was already nice. As it was explained, the photos of the rooms don't match the reality. So if you want to be sure about the room better to ask for sending the real photos and confirm that the room has everything what is described. The villa and all rooms are quite old and could be good to make same repayments there and fix the issues even they are minor but then it would be more comfortable to stay there. Kitchen accessories are also quite old even that's enough for seldom cooking.
Friendly staff helped us to get the correct room few days later. But it would be really better to avoid any negotiations and get everything correctly right from the beginning. So the second room we got was nice. It had a balcony with an amazing ocean view. There was a nice banana garden just in front of the house. We were pleased to get banana from that garden. Shared open air kitchen was big and surrounded by banana and citrus trees so that it was enjoyable to eat there even we preferred to eat on the balcony. All area is quiet. The parking is on the street next to the house and we didn't have a problem to find available place there. But be aware that all roads around are very steep and narrow and that's everywhere in Madeira. We were happy to stay in this place not in a busy and noisy city centre. Also the accommodation was good to start any route to different parts of the island. We got a good advise and contacts of the local rental car company which service was excellent.

Latvia1.Booking.com listed private parking. Unfortunately, the parking is on a narrow street facing the hill (as in many places in Madeira). The car must be parked very close to the neighbor's yard and only one side door can be used when getting out. There is a high risk that the machine will be scratched. Although it was possible to park a car in the courtyard of the apartment area, the owner did not agree to it. She did not take responsibility for the private parking provided by booking.com. 2. The beach seems close, but in fact the road from the accommodation leads to the edge of the cliff. The path leads to the rocky beach from the main road and it is not that close. 3. We would not stay 10 nights, because we had to take care of the bedding ourselves during the entire stay. A shared washing machine is available at the property. However, it takes time and drying time must be taken into account.
The window overlooks the ocean through the banana garden. The area is pleasant and the opportunity to use various recreation areas outside.

France• Room needs a fan as it gets uncomfortably warm even when doors and windows open (on the other hand, with windows and doors open, you are left exposed to mosquitoes). • Bathroom needs some ventilation • Street parking can be tricky if you’re not good at hill starts.
• Very large bed and room. • Communication and accomodating to our needs was excellent! Thank you Joana!. • Access to main roads to explore the island.
