It's a bit outdated, for example, the doors lock with a key, not a card.

The stuff. Usually I don't care if the stuff is nice or not, but here they are really nice. The location is good, and my room was huge.

Nothing about the hotel! Just those stairs outside to the other roads are a real killer!

The room was like a mini apartment, and very clean. Great service.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, breakfast is good (and also lasts until 12, which is rare and really helps), the staff is very open, helpful and responsive, location is just perfect for active tourists -- city center, all the nightlife in Bairro Alto, the central shopping area is 10-15 walking distance, restaurants and cafes are even closer (one staircase apart, so to say). For not that active tourists -- it's also nice to stay in the room, besides, the street is quiet. Small groceries (I think I've seen three) are just behind the corner. The hotel also provided us with a parking spot.

The building next door (attached) is under construction and likely will be for a while so you may be woken by construction noise if you like to sleep past 8am, M-F. This is typical of Lisbon right now. Lots of complete gutting, renovation jobs with facades held in place. This is an older, modest, Lisbon hotel. Basic rooms are small, suites are larger. This is not what Americans think of as a 4 star. TV is small, no views, hills to climb when you come or go.

This is a small hotel (I think only 18 rooms on 5 floors) in an excellent location with very helpful staff. Anton and Marcio were particularly great. The delicious made to order breakfast was a nice way to start our days. WiFi was excellent. We will stay here again when we return to Lisbon.

We stayed at this hotel with our children in 1986 after reading about it in NY Times. Enjoyed revisiting and meeting some of the same wonderful staff. Excellent location, lovely room, fine breakfast—highly recommended!

Some construction work (and noise) in the day-time. We stayed for 10 days and got used to it after some days - we will book same hotel again next time in Lisboa.

Great location, large rooms, friendly staff, breakfast a-la-carte till 12:00. This was our second stay at the hotel and we will book again.

TV ridiculously small for a 4 Stars hotel. About 15 minutes from the lively area in Lisbon. While the distance is reasonable, the hilly nature of Lisbon needs to be taken into consideration. We got an upgraded room but they removed the coffee and whatever sweets they had there on the second day.

    Good deal, breakfast.

There are two main problems. The first is that there is a lot of construction going on next to the hotel (at least three construction sites). We were lucky enough to be staying on a Sunday and checking on a Monday, so we only had to to put up the vibrations and noise for about an hour before we checked out. Besides the vibrations, the construction seems to be causing a number of cracks in the plaster, which the hotel maintenance cannot keep up with (even though they seem to be trying hard enough). The second issue is the outdated, inadequate and scratched furniture. It really needs to be updated.

The staff were all very helpful and polite. We had the suite and the view was amazing.

Only con is that the hotel is high up in Bairro Alto so you have to go straight up hill for several blocks. If you have a heavy suitcase, this can be an issue.

Large room. Property use to be an apartment it appears so there is a large sitting area as well as a large bathroom.

We had two rooms in this hotel . Both had air conditioning, a flat TV, but german programs can't be received. In one of our rooms the light, the refrigerator and the blinder were broken. We told the it but nothing has happened. It was very annoying because it was warm.

The service personal was very friendly. WLAN was for free. Breakfast was good, but the music in background not my favorite - disgusting.

Couple of minor things - the tv was very small and old . It worked fine and frankly didn't spend that much time in the room. Only other thing was there was an amazing terrace with nothing out there. Would have been brilliant to have some patio furniture or even a table and chair.

Had a great view of the city. Room was huge! 1/2 the floor with a terrace.

The natural freshly pressed orange juice was diluted with water, I believe. I would prefer it undiluted.

The pillows are awful (our experience has been the same in every other place we have stayed at in Portugal). The immediate surroundings of the hotel are not very encouraging-derelict buildings and lots of graffiti. There is demolition going on next door and the workers start early!

Great and very helpful staff (particularly Paula) and lovely view over the city from Room 502. We even had a rooftop terrace! Excellent breakfast which was served, not buffet style. Easy to get to Ave. Liberdade on foot. At no time did we feel unsafe.

This was a two bedroom in the sense there was two rooms with beds, one room was simply a living room with two cots. Cots were actually more comfortable than the master bed, people sleeping on cots have to go through master bedroom to use bathroom.

Location was good, you are either going up or down when you walk out, so good leg workout, great outdoor public places to sit and have a drink close by, main downtown area a 10 minute walk, free breakfast was great.

The building itself was great, modernized, located in older area so there were a few run down even falling apart buildings in the area, and a few questionable local residents . This is common for an old city, but if this bothers a person, would suggest staying right on the main road. Roads were very narrow here so getting to hotel (and parking!) was tricky.

Beds were extremely comfy and AC worked wonderfully. Spacious rooms and modern.

Although rated 4 star this was worth no more than 3. On a hilly side road and nowhere in immediate vicinity to go for a meal. Bed and breakfast hotel only, no other food facilities, no small bar in which to relax with a drink in the evening. Own parking advertised but in effect just 3 spaces in front of hotel, otherwise a pay-and-display at the top of the road. Lucky to get a space at all. Good breakfast choice but if you ordered cereal and then bacon and eggs it all came at the same time. We asked for a gap between courses but they obviously cooked the bacon and eggs at the time of ordering so it was served stone cold after the cereal. An 'ok' hotel as long as you know that its facilities are very limited.

Friendly staff. Hotel did at least have a lift.

The price of the hotel does not reflect the service and it should definitely not be 4 stars, rooms haven't been reconditioned (at least ours), we had a big stain of mould in the corner around the bed and the opposite side, walls were scratched and kind of dirty. It is located on a very crowded street, car go really fast on it and it's very noisy.

We liked the helpful and friendly staff at the reception, the breakfast was very good, definitely above the other standard of the hotel, the person serving breakfast in the morning was very careful and responsive. Located not far from Rossio, it's walking distance to the centre.

The only real negative was a very noisy bed which creaked loudly at every move!

Lovely helpful staff, nice large room and good modern bathroom. Excellent cooked breakfast but pastries rather plastic.

Coffee and tea making facilities in the room would have been welcome. The shower had no pressure.

Excellent welcome from Diogo. Good breakfasts and a great location.

My shower didn't work! Tub only. It was also a tough slog pulling my (too heavy) suitcase up the steep hills walking from the Avenida. In fairness, most guests would likely taxi to the hotel which would be much easier.

The reception desk staff were very helpful and accommodating. Room was basic but clean. Room refrigerator was a helpful touch. Wifi worked reasonably well.

Need to walk 10-15 minutes to reach the restaurants, no restaurant available for a dinner in the hotel. The weather was rainy every day in January.

Nice city view from the hotel room. Central location relatively close to a viewpoint, botanic garden and restaurants area. Rich breakfast till 12:00. Free parking (3 spaces, at least one of them was always available). Spacious room. Good value for money.

First of all, it is not 4* hotel, it doesn't fulfill any criteria for 4*. Room was small, with old a bit damaged furniture, small TV. Breakfast only based on order, no self service - this I don't see as positive at all. The hotel was on the hill, metro station 10min walk

The bathroom was new and clean. Wifi working fine. The receptionists very helpful. The taxi to the airport for ok price.

traffic noise was disturbing sometimes, but it wasn't really a problem for us (probably it happens only street side rooms)

very nice staff, adequate breakfast, location, size of the suite, OK wifi signal

The room was nice, but some paint was peeling, furniture and floors in the rooms could be updated or refreshed.

Very friendly staff, delicious breakfast with nespresso, comfortable large suite. We were lucky to have a parking place out front for free. Fan was adequate to keep the room cool without needing to open the windows (traffic noise was fine when windows were closed)

Good location, although it is halfway up the hill between Av de Liberdade and Praca Principe Real, so there is some climbing either direction. Convenient to the Metro, but a cab to and from the hotel will help with luggage. Super staff, excellent breakfast. We had a great overview of Lisbon upon check in and assistance with logistics and directions. We were upgraded to a suite with a great view of Lisbon.

Would have preferred shared bathroom in the middle of two bedroom suite for more privacy.

Staff very nice and accommodating. Location is in a quite neighborhood.

The parking situation is very problematic. If you are not lucky to get one of the 3 hotel spaces, you have to take one of the public lots which have to be paid by the hour from morning until 1 am!

The hotel lies near the center, especially the Bairro Alto with all the restaurants and bars. The hotel is modern and offers all you need. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is personally served by order.
