How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewConveniently located just a short walk from the city centre, Quarto and Pasta Guesthouse had a fully-equipped kitchen, characterful rooms and good bathrooms. It was a very short walk from an Aldi store and everything in the city was walkable from the guesthouse. Also, in the main roads nearby, there were many, many options of cafes and restaurants.

Verified reviewThe host was very welcoming and even told a story about a local event that was happening that day. I arrived late but she still welcomed me anyway. It was a very pleasant stay. Calm and clean!

Verified reviewFriendly owner. Good location - walkable into town with a supermarket and places to eat nearby. The room was a good size and the place was really clean. I would describe it as feeling like being at home. I found a place to park straight away down the far end of the road that the guest house is on.
You could hear other guests arriving, leaving and moving around at night, but this is a really minor thing. Its an old building and you expect this sort of thing when you are travelling. It wouldn't stop me staying her again.

Verified reviewThe location was great. Most of the sites were within walking distance. The guesthouse itself was a lovely renovated building - old, but comfy, with lots of character. I didn’t use it, but the kitchen looked well stocked, and the bathrooms were bright and clean. And as a bonus, the towels that were supplied were nice and big and fluffy.
A couple of mosquitoes got in through the open windows so I woke up with a few bites.

Verified reviewBooked a room - got an appartment with kitchen and sitting room - and two other, empy bedrooms. Quite a positive surprise. And very near to the centre, yet relatively quiet street.

Verified reviewThe very friendly, helpful welcome. Instructions were clear, it was easy to find and very close to the Caminho Santiago. Very central location in Coimbra, easy walk to good restaurants and the river.
The noise from the street in the small hours.

Verified reviewThe host was nice, everything was clean, beautiful view from the window, great location. Also it was cool to see the tall ceilings, wooden floors and well preserved window frames, feels like the building bears some history.
No shower holder in the shower.

Verified reviewThe location is good, just across the bridge from the old town. It was an old traditional building but clean and well maintained and everything worked well. Bear in mind it is a guesthouse not a hotel, you do not have your own fridge or kitchen facilities but there is a shared kitchen that was fine. The shared bathrooms were also fine, I never had to wait to use one. There is no air conditioning but the room was never too warm even when it was warm outside. The room was bright and airy. It was very good value for money in a town where accommodation is quite expensive.
For the price, nothing.

Verified reviewIt was very clean (fresh air, clean floor, fresh sheets). I did request a quiet room to the back of the building and they provided this. You will find that it’s hard to find quiet hotels in Portugal and I have to say this was pretty quiet (I went there on a Saturday night). The room was spacious, great kitchen with everything you need to make a meal, 2 showers and toilets, very clean and smelling Fresh. Staff was nice and accomodating, allowed me to do a late check out as they did not have anyone in the room. There was a phone number to call if you had any issues and they replied quickly. Overall for the price and location, I think this is a great place to stay. Just to note that it’s a old building so you will hear when people open their room doors etc, but it will be the case for all old building in Portugal. There is also an Aldi supermarket just 5 minutes away.
The towels were smelling dump a bit.
