Very steep drive coming into the hotel.

Very nicely presented property, decor is stylish and the room was very well equipped. Host was very helpful and booked us a meal at a local restaurant (as we were too late to order the set dinner at the hotel which has to be before 12). We pre-choose our breakfast the night before, which is a great idea and saves waste. Lovely poolside area.

We loved the place! The owner and staff are super nice and helpful, rooms are big, nicely and thoughtfully decorated, bathroom was amazing. The pool was bigger than we expected (rare thing in hotels). Great breakfasts and exquisite gourmet dinners (not included in the price, but well worth it).

It would have been lovely to have a terrace option for sitting outside for breakfast and dinner. Coming from Britain, we look for any excuse for Al fresco dining. Coffee could be improved.

The breakfast was very good, self selected the day before. If you wanted more of anything at the sitting you only had to ask. Location was fantastic, especially great for walking. The pool was incredible and we loved the honesty bar, it allowed us to feel at home and left in peace. The room was in a separate building and thus also had a small terrace over looking the valley which we loved. The surrounding area is bursting with incredible flora and the birdlife.

The property was beautiful and set in such an idyllic place. The room was spacious and comfortable. My favourite part was the pool, such a relaxing area with an amazing view. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The description of the hotel was of a country retreat. The price felt relatively high for rural Portugal - the most expensive of our trip and we stayed in some beautiful places. The impression we had from the pictures was of spacious grounds in the country. Our room actually was at ground level directly on to the road in the village so we could not have the curtains open. We had booked a double room - it was actually 2 separate beds, separately made pushed together. We had to fill in a paper choosing exact basic breakfast choices the day before even down to whether we wished for butter or not and state a time of 9 or 9.30 This didn't feel relaxing. The breakfast was fine but not as good as some of the more basic hotels we stayed at. We ate evening meals which were pleasant but not great or generous with a 'surprise' menu which meant no choice other than dietary - and didn't include water or bread without additional payment again in contrast to other hotels. Exactly the same bottle of wine was almost double the price paid at the restaurant we had eaten in the previous evening As others have stated everything required extra payment via an honesty bar system for example to make yourself a cup of tea cost over 3 euros.

There is no airconditioner, youe have to keep windows open and can hear everthing outside - children playing board games, people having dinner and you feel the need to be as quiet as possible

You have to pay extra money for everything:spa, sharing the room with your child, coffee. For instance, a coffee made (self-service) with a dolce gusto machine costs 3,75 euros. Normally I get this kind of coffee for free in every hotel I stay. There’s no fridge/freezer in the room. In this area of Portugal it gets very hot in August, this kind of facility is found in nearly every hotel. There’s a restaurant, but they won’t serve you dinner unless you book the table until 14h in the afternoon. You have to say a day before what would you like to have for breakfast..Bottom line it’s sold as a luxury retreat but you have to pay for everything like you’re in a low cost retreat.
