the rooms were small and old. the TV was very old. no remote in the room. the sauna and the Turkish bath was open one time during our 5 days stay. the reste of the time it was not warmed up, in the normal hours of use (5pm-8pm). the restaurant is great during the weekdays but in the weekend they did not tell us that the cook was off and we have been served a very poor menu from a novice cook. So I would not recommend to eat at the restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays. The hotel claims to be a 5-star but it's more like a 3-star for the room and a 4-star for the breakfast and the restaurant.

the bed was good. the Wifi too.

If you prefer to be away from city rush and planing to explore more mountains and other attractions this place is perfect for you. However, having a car it is advisable to move around but if you do not, there is a curtesy bus which will take you down and up from the city centre.

Appreciated the friendly staff and view over the city of Funchal. A hotel shuttle takes you into the city and picks you up if required. Public transport system can be reached within 5 minutes walk.

Lack of a prompt response to our complaint.

Poor double bed. One of us had to sleep on the carpet. Did not honor request for twin beds. Took an enormous hassle to get the rate discounted.

There is only one swimming pool and it is outside, not heated so too cold in European winter times. Not a criticism but just to know that the hotel is on a very steep road to town, you have to be fit and good walkers to step outside without taxi or shuttle. Taxi €10 to or from town BUT check first as taxi can take the long way home if you are not paying attention and could be €15.

Fantastic views, hotel shuttle to and from town centre twice per day on week days, it is not in the main tourist hotel area, staff are very good, walking tours pickup and drop off at hotel, the toboggan ride from Monti passes the hotel, finishing 100 metres past entrance. Comprehensive breakfast. Dinner normal for hotel, best to sample the restaurants to the East of the town near cable car, €10 by taxi.

Location not good if you have mobility issues. Lack of shuttle bus at weekends. Only one member of staff serving at breakfast and evening meals led to long waiting times.

    Helpful staff. Excellent evening meals.

Our 5-year anniversary was a complete disaster in this hotel. - Breakfast variety is extremely limited - English breakfast. - Staff and problem management. - Room cleanliness: had insects and bugs... - Beds were pretty uncomfortable, pillows were terrible. - Jacuzzi was malfunctioning and wasn't fixed even after the complaint. - The room balcony(superior room with balcony) is a public access terrace on the second floor. - The problems that we had and because they weren't solved, our conversations turned into very tense discussions. - We had a superior double room with balcony for 8 nights, afterwards we were downgraded to a standard room for 2 nights(with 10€/night refund for the room price difference) and for the last 3 nights we were given a proper & clean superior room with private balcony.

    - Location, the view from the terrace. - Welcome drink - genius Booking.com member. - Staff: Marco from the reception. - Free parking. - It's a quite hotel.

An exceedingly noisy wedding reception 29th August. The Hotel management were profuse in their apologies, for the disruption to our sleep.

Leisurely and peaceful location. Very helpful stall throughout our stay. Always willing to help, from the Diretor (de empresa) to all other staff.

The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable, definitely not 5 star standard. Also the lounge chairs by the pool clearly needed cushions.

The receptionist was very helpful and he was always happy to help. The premises were quiet and also out of town, but was still relatively easy to get to.
