Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalThe rooms were a bit cold but it’s March in the north so not too unexpected.
Beautiful 17 century building sympathetically decorated to reflect the period. Great host good food good wine in abundance Served by the owner herself. There was a roaring fire which added to the period feel. If your desire is for high tech stainless steel and glass this is not for you. Think 4 poster beds and manual wooden shutters complete with creaking floorboard. Yet clean and functional. Opening the shutters to the sight of oranges and lemons nodding in the wind was magical! Breakfast was a feast. Very enjoyable. Not a hot one but there was enough of a selection to please us all We had the freedom to wonder the vast property grounds unrestricted. The gardens are poised to burst into blooms of apple pears plums and figs soon.

NetherlandsA truly magical stay at this period Manor House. Surrounded by vineyards, it's a haven for those with an inspired soul and artistic sensibility. Filled with antiques, it's a unique and unforgettable retreat. Our two borzois dogs were warmly welcomed. A place where history meets inspiration. Highly recommended!

GermanyBest host, personalised and welcoming. Very cosy and familiar atmosphere. If you want to stay in a real rural aristocratic house, this is the place. You are in the middle of a typical farm with all the history and tradition associated. Don’t miss the dinner, with good and traditional food from the region.

SwitzerlandWe booked a room at the Casa dos Viscondes da Varzea. When we arrived we were welcomed by Donha Maria Manuel, the owner of this rural palace. She and her friendly staff made us feel at home immediately, from breakfast to dinner, in the sumptuous dining hall and other luxuriously decorated living rooms with fireplaces.

United KingdomThe room was very cold. The toilet was not secured to the floor which led to a couple of exciting moments. Fresh orange juice with breakfast would have been desirable.
This property is in a lovely setting surrounded by vineyards. The food and house wine were excellent. The lounge with open fire was both delightful and memorable.

GermanyThe service was really slow... I had to go to the reception to order more wine (which I was ok with), but it would take forever to bring the wine to you, and one time they gave us the wine warm.
I loved the place itself.... it was like being in a fairytale... the price was cheap for what we got and the price of the wine $10 was great!

United KingdomWe cannot think of anything we would want to change
This was at the end of our time in Portugal and was the finishing touch to a wonderful holiday. We cannot praise the property enough, it was an experience that will live long in our memories. Whereas most other guests only stayed one night we are so glad we decided to stay three nights. Its so relaxing we didnt travel around and just enjoyed the surroundings and facilities this property has to offer. The room was outstanding, the breakfasts set the day up and the optional evening meal an experience that shouldn't be missed. Finally the staff and owner were so hospitable and friendly. Thank you

United KingdomNeed a car to reach this hotel as it is quite isolated. Not many things to do around especially if you do not have a car. No lights in the footpaths to the rooms made it a bit tricky on our way back to our room late at night. Breakfast was quite simple without any hot options (eggs etc). Buffet dinner was a bit pricey. Not very easy to carry the suitcases to the rooms as there are stairs and stoned footpaths. More than one keys would be more handy especially when 4 people are sharing the same room. A bit better maintenance is required in some rooms as we could not close the window.
Very friendly staff. Spacious and clean rooms. Enjoyed the delicious and fresh vegetables and fruits grown at this place, as well as the wine! Free parking! Great view from the rooms, the dining areas and the living rooms! Comfy sunbeds by the swimming pool and fresh towels offered for the swimming pool!

Loved the atmosphere. The view from our comfortable room was gorgeous and the birds outside the room were chirping every morning. We were made to feel very welcome in this family estate. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner with the other guests in an elegant dining room and met incredibly interesting people. The dinners provided a wide array of great food and the wine was included. The staff was very accommodating and Maria, the owner, made a point of interacting with the guests. It was a pleasure to stroll through the house and see the gorgeous antiques and art work.
