The food in the restaurant was horrible!

It is a treat to stay in a Pousada. This was the original one, opened in 1942. However, it is a bit long in the tooth and in serious need of updating. That said, it is clean & comfortable. It would be even better if they didn't make you pay for breakfast.

The hotel staff was wonderful! The furniture in the room was slightly worn, but very elegant. The lobby and grounds were beautiful. The breakfast was very good and the gentleman who managed the breakfast was very accommodating and charming. They had gluten-free for me, and they made special efforts. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

    lack of a room safe

Nothing was "extra", all high standard. We were seeking a restful place to chill out a little after a stressful period. This hotel provided it perfectly. Restaurant, whilst not haute cuisine, provided interesting meals well prepared and presented. List of local wines reasonable. Reception very helpful.

    Sorry, no negative remarks!

Just outside the city walls of Elvas a perfect place to visit that town, famous for its fortifications. You can also easily go to Badajoz in Spain (only 25 km). Great swimming pool (although we didn't make use of it...) More than enough parking space!

The hotel could benefit from some refurbishment.

The hotel is very well located, right outside the city so one can leave the car in its parking and walk into town. The rooms are comfortable, the breakfast is good. The staff is very helpful. The pool is a good place to spend the very warm summer afternoons.

Easy to find and to park though car park is not secured. Short walk into the town through the fortifications. However, at night the way is poorly lit and walking on the road is not entirely safe. There is a car park just inside the wall.

The breakfast is not the ideal. It must be improved, namely the food must be placed on closed compartments and refrigerated. The air conditioning was not working during the breakfast time and the temperature outside was around 30-40C. The wifi at room 126 was not working and the problem was not solved during our stay.

The dinner menu options looked confusing. It could be short and simple. Not good value for money. We did not like the food at dinner. Prawn curry tasted more seafood than curry itself. The "bacalhau dorado desfiado com batata palha" hardly had cod fish in there with load of potatoes (loads of good restaurants in the area). Did not like wall fixed hairdryer in the bathroom. Could have provided a hairdryer on the table (for ladies: there is a large mirror in the room). Mattress was too hard. Did not have the fluffy feeling.

The room was very clean and smelled good. Well done housekeeping staff. All staff was excellent - welcoming, personalised, friendly and professional. The shower was powerful and bathroom was very clean with loads of toiletries. The breakfast was great with loads of options. 4 star service overall. Great attitude from all staff. Great location with no noise disturbance. Excellent car park open space. Beautifully designed lobby and bar. Relaxing atmosphere. Free wifi. Very comfortable stay overall.

Receptionist left desk unattended for long periods as she dealt with taking clients to rooms, short staffed maybe? Pool sides & base were very dirty, couldn't bring ourselves to use it.iHot breakfast was cold. Views of aqueduct were poor from this hotel.

The degustation menu is pretentious. Description does not match what you get. If you eat in this restaurant stick to the main dishes. The older staff seams to stress and push around the younger staff.

The rooms decoration represent well the vibe of the region. Renovation was well done and maintains a luxurious feeling (marbles, fire places) The swimming pool is large and the grounds well maintained. The young staff is pleasant, friendly and informative. The hotel is very cleaned.
