Ilhéus has a rich historical background, but the town feels neglected, with many historical buildings falling into disrepair. It’s not particularly touristic—more functional than charming. That said, there are some good bars and restaurants, and the centrally located airport is convenient. The beaches, while decent, don’t compare to the stunning ones in the surrounding region. The hotel staff impressed us, they were so kind and friendly. The room was fairly large with a nice kitchen, comfortable bed and good shower, top quality towels, and a well fitted good sized wardrobe. Facilities were refurbished and well cleaned. The atmosphere was relaxed and quiet. Breakfast was really good and the restaurant had good quality fairly priced food for lunch and dinner. The hotel was just a few steps from the main attractions. The Vesuvius restaurant was opposite to the hotel and the bataclan was a few meters nearby.
