The Saturday street market is fun if you love shopping for vintage/second-hand clothes. I found a designer purse for 30 pesos-that's about $4 U.S. There are some very good steak restaurants and lovely cafes. Check out Cafe Belen! I ate there several times a week and it was always good. There is very good art here to see and the cathedrals are lovely. I'm not a big wine-drinker but I went on a wine tour and had lots of fun and met friendly people. There are many plazas and most have beautiful trees and roses so it's nice to hang out and have an ice cream. There is lots of ice cream here! I used an app for rides around the city-about 6-8 pesos anywhere in the main part of the city. Taxis are about 5 pesos. I didn't have time to get to the nature park but it looks lovely. As a single woman, I felt very safe walking around except one Saturday evening around the market a drunk man got too friendly and wanted to hug me and use my phone.Guest review bykristineUnited States - 10.0

I have spent months in Bolivia living in La Paz and Cochabamba area. Tarija is my favorite so far. I love the small town pace, clean air, and friendly people. There is lots of GOOD art here, a few original nice women's clothing shops, great cafes and restaurants, steak restaurants, chocolate and wine shops, and plenty of historical stuff to see. I was traveling alone and felt safe taking In-Drive and always had good experiences with drivers even though I don't speak great Spanish and few people speak English. The country around Tarija is beautiful-go to the lake and take a wine tour even if you don't love drinking. The Saturday and Sunday markets are fun to go to if you like shopping for vintage/used clothing-I found a fancy leather designer purse for 15 pesos! I had to leave before I could get to the botanical park which looks amazing. I will have to come back. If you stay in AirBnB and it says they have a.c., be sure to clarify that they don't mean regular fans.Guest review bykristineUnited States - 8.0
Charming small town.
Charming small town. Known for wines and Argentinian-style steaks. Many companies offer Winery tours. In our experience (three times) those are designed to drink lots of table wine, but no quality wines. If you really want to taste good wines, arrange to visit any (or all) of the four largest wineries (Aranjuez, Kolberg, Campos de Solana, and La Concepcion) and ask to taste their best wines. You will be surprised how good they are. Don't be afraid to spend a little more. Still a bargain for foreign travelers. You will be disappointed if you take any of the widely publicized "Ruta del Vino" tours, except for the scenery in the cramped vans.Guest review byNelsonUnited States
