- From $153.92 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 1,651 reviewsWe had a great stay at Fairfield House Hotel. Our room was huge, immaculately clean and included a lovely roll top bath. The bed was comfortable and we both had a good night's sleep. To top things off we had a beautiful sea view to sit and admire. The restaurant had a varied menu some offers a lovely atmosphere and great service. Or evening meal and breakfast were both 10/10. Having leisure facilities was a nice little bonus to start our day. Staff were available helpful and friendly. We would definitely return and recommend others to visit. Note that the property doesn't have a lift so request a room on the ground floor if required if possible.Guest review byLindaUnited Kingdom
- From $120.14 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 6.5Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 631 reviewsStaff was extremely friendly and welcoming. They were very accommodating, helping ensure we had a secure place to leave our bike overnight. The location was central and easy to find. I really like old hotels with character and this one had plenty! While the building is old, the bathroom was renovated. I really liked having a bathtub to relax in after cycling for the past 3 weeks. Breakfast was made to order, filling, and tasty. Quiet location and comfortable bed made for a good night’s sleep.Guest review byCindyGermany
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very Good - What previous guests thought, 985 reviewsThe breakfast buffet was very good. For dinner I had Sea Bass my first night and Fish and Chips my second. The Fish and Chips were very good and the Sea Bass was excellent. The staff was very attentive and a woman at the Reception desk went out of her way to help me connect with a guest that was on the same cruise as myself.Guest review byJulianUnited States

I stayed at Beechwood on my way from Belfast to Edinburgh, (...
I stayed at Beechwood on my way from Belfast to Edinburgh, (and from the Isle of Skye to Belfast) it's about an hour and a bit by bus from Cairnryan (the ferry port). The hotel is a little over a mile from the bus terminus on the main road that goes out of Ayr. It took me about 40 minutes to walk with my luggage to the hotel as my GPS steered me wrong. I did it in 20 min without luggage. Ayr is a small town but has quite a selection of places to eat. I ate at Sherkan (an Indian restaurant that does more take out as their eating-in is adequate but not elegant. The food was good, but their cheese nan was like a large cheese pizza. In the morning I took the train to Edinburgh. The train stop was less than 5 minutes from Beechwood and the manager showed me where it was and printed out the train schedule for me. I visited the local Sainbury's which was only 15min walk from the hotel and picked up some fresh bread from a small local bakery on my way back.Guest review byGary/ FaithUnited States - 10.0

I love Irvine, the beach is beautiful and you have facilities there as well which is perfect, especially if you are taking children. I love the wee cafes along Harbour street but my favourite is Small Talk, love this cafe. The home baking is delicious! They also have a gluten free selection of cakes. I highly recommend you try this wee place. You have everything you need close by, its such a beautiful place.Guest review byKellyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We like the cleanliness of Prestwick, the selection of shops and the cafes and restaurants, the park with swings etc for children. The lovely clean beach and the walk along the beachfront which has seats to sit on where you can sit with a coffee or sit in and have a coffee with the great views across the water to Ailsa Craig and Troon and you can also see the planes that have departed from Prestwick airport.. There are also public toilets to the side off the cafe. The beachfront has a large grass area which has a large play area with swings and chutes etc. Also you can go along to the back of the airport to sit and see the planes coming in and taking off from the airport. There is also the golf course in Prestwick and it’s close to Troon golf course too.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Rothesay is special to us as is my husband,s birthplace which he left as a boy to come to England. But even without this nostalgia trip, Bute is a wonderful island, with beautiful natural scenery, great walks and woodland trails. We spent a lot of time beachcombing along the shore, collecting shells and lovely stones to bring home. Lovely variety of food to be had in Rothesay and nearby places. Rothesay has some big hills but views from the top are spectacular if you can make it- walking or by car!Guest review byHELENUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This was just an overnight stop on our way to Islay from Glasgow - we took an afternoon bus to Tarbert and got private transport to Kennakraig ferry terminal the morning after. The town was lovely, with a nice castle and a couple of good restaurants as well as a pub with plenty of whisky options. We might have even stayed a bit longer had we known it was such a lovely place.Guest review byManuel E.Poland - 10.0
Regular ferries.
Regular ferries. Lots of catering and pubs and quirky shops. Beautiful old churches and regular activities in the Castle House museum and the Burgh Hall. Swimminig, cinema, supermarkets. Lovely nature trails, walks and climbs within walking distance of town centre.Guest review bySTEVENUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Largs in beautiful for the views.
Largs in beautiful for the views. Going over too the island takes just a few minutes on the ferry and definitely worth a visit as its stunning. Fish and Chips from Fish works is the absolute best!! If you love haggis, try the viking chip shop for amazing battered haggis. Lots of different shops fro gifts and lots of charity shops if you like hunting for bargains. Beautiful little sweet shop too on the High Street. We went for the Viking Festival and although it was good, I don't think you need to spend the money on the tickets too see the burning of the boat because by the time you have got through the crowds too the ticket area the boat has already been burnt. Food and drinks at the festival stores are expensive but delicious. There are loads of market stalls there too selling all homemade items and cakes etc. The viking village is worth a visit too if that's your thing. Largs its self is lovely on a quite day. There is a large morriosns store within a few minutes drive from the centre or there is also coop and tesco express stores in the town centre. Largs is perfect from exploring that part of Scotland as lots too see within a short drive. I'm not sure about family activities as I don't have children.Guest review byKayleighUnited Kingdom - 6.0
Greenock is fine but dreadful bus station.
Greenock is fine but dreadful bus station. I was robbed by a very incompetent laptop repair shop hotspot in town centre 20 GBP for 5 mins work and job not done. The lady in charge of the waterfront took my laptop personally and got it fixed. Great service.Guest review byJohnnyThailand - 10.0
