I think the most outstanding quality of this hotel was the service of the staff. They arranged for us to have a driver for an entire day to discover the island and its history. The driver was a local man who was very familiar with the interesting history of the island and answered all of our many questions. This is not to detract from an absolutely spectacular room with a window wall view of the ocean and the small islands in the distance. Its an industrial town - not a city - and wonderful as a place to stay and as a stepping point for ferries to the islands. Rent a car and explore the island. Also the town museum is fantastic - its GOTO movie is wonderful. Everything you need is within easy walk and people are friendly although few speak English (take a mobile phone translator). Its very very Japanese which you expect but for some Westerners it might be a little challenging. the Tourist Office at the Port is exceptional.Guest review byMorganAustralia - 8.0
Shinkamigoto is a beautiful island, there is a local bus...
Shinkamigoto is a beautiful island, there is a local bus service to various parts of the island, however this is hourly at best. I went to visit Christian heritage listed churches so using buses would have been out of the question. I tried to hire an E Bike but as I didn't have a local sim card for my phone, I couldn't hire one. I found a motor scooter rental place that would rent me a scooter. This turned out to be a life saver as I was able to visit most of the sites that I wanted to visit and see parts of the Goto Islands that I would not have seen had I used a bus. In short, the Goto islands are best visited with your own means of transport, or a rental.Guest review byJohn TAustralia - 10.0

A great place to explore Japanese island life! Not only is the nature beautiful, but the people are very kind and helpful. To get the most out of a trip to Goto, I recommend traveling with only a few specific places to visit in mind and filling in the gaps with some natural exploration. The places I wanted to see were great, but it was the little surprising spots and locations along the way that became the most memorable.Guest review byMatthewJapan
