“The lodge is amazing!! Sooo beautiful in the middle of a hidden gem national park. Fantastic big comfortable huts, beautiful open dining room, nice pool, in the middle of nature. The naturalist guide, Lucky, was absolutely amazing. He gave us the passion for birds and we had great meeting with an elephant during the safari lunch. We made also the walk with the indigenous Veddha. All so friendlz and so few tourists and so not commercial…”
“Very hospitable staff, a lot of space, a little bit away from the city crowd, sound of birds and peacocks around. The owner rented us his own tuktuk so we were able to explore around and went to B35 elephant road ourselves. It was amazing experience! Definitelly recommending this place, such a hospitality!”
“Host was nice and responsive. He tried his best to help us even if we had some problem to get there because of the road. If the problem get solved, it would be a good value for money. The area is quiet and isolated.”
“From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was peaceful, welcoming, and incredibly relaxing. The staff were some of the friendliest people we've met - always respectful, attentive, and never intrusive. They really let you unwind and enjoy the natural surroundings at your own pace.
We had booked the bed & breakfast option through Booking.com, but ended up having all our lunches and dinners at the lodge as well - and we’re so glad we did. Every meal was fantastic, with fresh ingredients and a great variety of dishes. There’s nothing else nearby food-wise, but honestly, you wouldn’t want to eat anywhere else!
The view from the main lodge and the pool is absolutely stunning. It’s the perfect spot to relax between activities or just take in the beauty of the place.
One of the most unique aspects of the stay is that each lodge gets assigned its own naturalist, which made the experience feel really personal and enriching. Ours was incredible - super knowledgeable, warm, and passionate about the wildlife and the environment. We did almost all the activities offered, including a boat safari (where we saw elephants, crocodiles, and a huge variety of wildlife), nature walks, a bicycle ride, and birdwatching tours. Everything was well-organized and full of amazing sightings and moments.
The rooms are beautifully designed, blending in perfectly with the surroundings while still feeling luxurious and comfortable. The air conditioning was a welcome feature, and the bathroom design is something you just have to experience - rustic yet refined, open yet private.
We left Gal Oya feeling completely refreshed and connected to nature. It’s a place we’ll never forget and would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, immersive, and genuinely special stay.”
“We had a wonderful time - relaxing in the hammock, swimming in the river, enjoying nature and having the healthiest food.
The caretaker and his family is super friendly and attentive. We felt really confortable and can recommend this place to all travelers.
There is a fridge and filtered water in the room.”
“We had such a wonderful stay here! The location is perfect, right next to the National Parks, which made it ideal for us as we were just passing through and stumbled upon this place by chance. We truly enjoyed every moment.
The host was incredibly kind and welcoming, and prepared a delicious breakfast for us, not only tasty but also very generous in portion. Behind the property there’s a river, and the whole setting is surrounded by beautiful nature, giving it such an idyllic and peaceful feeling.
We really couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommended!”
“I don’t even know where to start with this review. We had the kindest welcome when arriving on the amazing place called Sahana Retreat. Asanga is really a great host and made us feel right at home, we liked the activities like gem searching and also a safari was arranged. All meals where tastefull and plenty and really tasted the Sri Lankan flavours!
Sunrise and sunset are something special from this place!
The rooms are clean and comfortable, as are the hammocks. Bathroom is also good, and the river close even better!
Definitly recommend this place to anyone! We will definitely come back! :)

“I rented the entire villa, a charming place surrounded by nature, a true oasis of peace where serenity filled the air. It was the perfect break before continuing my journey to Ella. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxing, and every detail was meticulously taken care of, offering an ideal balance between unspoiled nature and proximity to the town center. The stay was rejuvenating and flawless in every aspect. The owner, always kind and helpful, provided invaluable advice, from organizing excursions to the waterfalls and the temple to arranging taxis for other destinations.”
