How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

A bit pricey for our budgets but aligned with local prices. Still worth spending some more money for extra convenience / saving on walking in the heat.
Strand Hotel was very conveniently located. The entrance to the metro was literally opposite the hotel entrance, there is also a bus stop behind the corner with frequent buses to the airport. Hotel staff was very friendly and check in / check out process was very smooth. Room was clean and spacious with comfy beds and clean bathroom.

the room was a little small , but we only used it to sleep we're out exploring every day and didn't spend that much time there
There are lots of restaurants and shops near by and a 7 11 just over the road,. and there's a metro station just a couple of minutes walk away from the hotel.

My room didn't have hot water. It was fine when the weather was so hot. But in the morning, would prefer hot water.
The location is fantastic, next to Downtown Line and near Circle Line. Staff are friendly. A bit dated but I wouldn't mind as the room is bigger than most hotels in Singapore.

Excessive rates for the week I stayed in Singapore, I normally pay A$200/Night for the Strand, this trip was A$289. Price gouging because of a couple of events that week including a Taylor Swift concert
The Strand is a nice hotel and I stay there regularly

It's still a bit of an economy experience in the rooms, especially the bathroom. I'm perfectly happy with it I just don't want readers to think otherwise.
Location and price are the main draw here. The lobby has been redone and is also now pretty nice. Rooms are the same. Nothing special but always quiet no matter who or how many people are staying around you! I have stayed here maybe a dozen times in 20+ years. I always look around for other deals but nothing ever beats the Strand.

The room that I booked is quite big and got bathtub. Although the room is a bit old but overall is good, no smell and is clean. Just 2-3 mins walk distance to the MRT station.

Nothing much wort worth mentioning. No bidet spray. Microwave only available till 9pm only. Hot water was not available on the 1st day of our 6 night stay but the attentive staff promptly attended to it and solved the problem.
Location, right opposite the Bencoolen MRT Station, bus stops, taxi stand ,7/11 and also road side vending machines. We were able to make maximum use of the Singapore tourist pass. Spacious room with mini bar refrigerator, hair dryer, adequate lighting, hot water, toiletries and above all the window facing road. Microwave available in the common dining area in the lobby. Staff was extra helpful on our check out and helped to haul our heavy bags into the taxi. On a future visit would definitely book the same hotel.

Room rate is kinda pricey coz we were charged additional due to the Taylor Swift concert as told by the receptionist. There is an old smell of mold upon entering the room. But disappears once we are settled in
It was just across the MRT station. There is also a bus stop nearby, 2 7-11 stores and a food court just across also
