How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewKoki, the lady at the reception desk has helped me all along since the moment I arrived. She helped me out with anything I needed. In addition it was a very clean hostel!
It’s not the most social hostel but good enough to meet a couple of people.

Verified reviewI liked the living room area.
Having to take our shoes off right at the door and walking around the entire building barefoot wasn’t pleasant. Also the bathrooms are tiny and aren’t clean in my opinion. There’s an odor that follows them. This place is advertised as being really clean and it’s why I booked it, but it wasn’t clean. The sinks clogged up when you used them to brush and it was just not the vibe. I will not be booking here ever again.

The bed in female dom is too hard to me. Need more hook to hung clothes, they only provide one hanger for each person.

Verified reviewThe hostel is not only in a central but still calm location so that you can reach all the important things by foot, but is also beautifully designed and very clean at all times. You get all the necessary essentials that you need to have a comfortable stay. The best part, however, was the staff. Koki and her team make sure that no question is left unanswered - whether it's help with booking activities, recommendations about food/shopping/sight seeing or a spontaneous reservation for a relaxing massage. The many benefits in combination with the very fair price made my stay absolutely perfect and I highly recommend the hostel when you’re in Chiang Mai.
The only small negative point is that there are relatively few options for hanging towels/clothes in the dorm room. An additional clothes rail on the wall would be helpful.

Verified reviewPakping Hostel provided little touches like simple breakfast, soap and shampoo in the shower room, which are more than what some hotels provide. Staff were very warm and helpful. Room and sleeping area are decently sized, with lockers provided for you to keep your backpack and casual bag.
It would help if there are more hooks in the room for guests to hang raincoats wet from the rain.

Verified reviewPapking was my home is Chiang Mai. Where do I begin? I woke up each day feeling the need to smile and feel loved by the owners - Koki and Paul. They were the two most incredible hosts that I have come across in my years of traveling. I had initially booked a week's stay and then extended it to about 23 days, because a week of love and warmth wasn't enough! The space in itself is stunning with chic minimalist interiors that are blended with comfort and gives a sense of luxury while being affordable. The hygeine is top notch as the team works cautiously to ensure that it is spic and span by steaming the beds each time a guest checks out. I have not witnessed this level of hygiene anywhere else - and this is all thanks to Koki who believes that her guests must be comfortable and healthy while they stay here. She is someone who goes above and beyond to ensure the comfort of someone who stays at Pakping by also guiding them to local activities that are unique and versatile to experience in the ethereal city of Chiang Mai. She helps you feel at home and checks on you if there is something that you need. I loved her energy and look forward to going back soon. The icing on the cake is her lil corgi dog Nico who pays a visit. Overall if I have to sum up my experience I want to say that I found a home in a different country and now Chiang Mai will be a place I will always go back to - all thanks to my dear friend Koki and her husband Paul. Hands down the two of the nicest folks in the world! Wish you guys the best of everything - until we meet again <3
I loved everything about this place!
We miss you so much here. you have to come back soon! bring your dog.

Verified reviewClean facilities, helpful staff, good location. Quiet
Not much I didn't like, this isn't a bustling hostel where you meet a lot of people. It's more quiet, people keep to themselves
