How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Verified reviewReally chilled out resort in the heart of Chalong. Staff and owners are very friendly, several awesome dogs on the premises, good food and if you're into 420, they have excellent product. Do yourself a favor and grab a few bags of their home made biltong, you will not regret it.

Found a bed bug on a cushion at the pool. Also, the floorboards outside the room are loud every time someone walks past which affects sleep. Also our whole group got stomach problems, and I could hear our neighbours also with stomach issues. I think there was an issue with the water possibly because not sure what other common factor there could be.

We have inspected all cushions due to the "strangness" of bed bugs in cushions in the hot sun. We did not find any bed bugs but did notice that beatles were on the plants from the gardens. Regarding the Novovirus (stomache flu) that is spreading like wild fire in Thailand at this moment, we have sent samples of our water to a lab and can confirm that this is definately not a source. However Novovirus is contagious and when one person in a group picks it up, there is a very high chance of every one getting it. The hotel has disinfection and sterilization equipment and procedures that we implement on a daily basis to try break the cycle of spreading the virus.

Not too clean, found bed bugs on pillows near the pool, water comes from external source so sometimes runs out, really loud floor boards and thin walls so you can hear everyone walk to and back from their rooms and toilet at night.

Verified reviewWe´ve been the second time in a row staying at Shanti Lodge, so we did it on choice. Shanti Lodge is a safe and peaceful place where you experience freedom and laid-backness. Staff is always very helpful, caring and approachable. It´s literally an oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of busy Chalong. You meet backpackers, couples, families, single travelers - all in one place. We can only recommend it.
The prices for food and drinks raised significantly since last year. Which we were a bit surprised about. We had the impression, that we "should" order food and drinks from the kitchen - but obviously decided ourself.

Verified reviewThe food was wonderful, the pool was a joy (especially with the waterfall running), the staff and all the pets were really lovely (even grumpy choco). We loved our room, the whole experience was a really welcome introduction to Thailand after a long flight. Bravo! 🙌
We really liked almost everything, it’s on a bit of a busy road, but location can’t be helped, and it’s such a lovely oasis the road really didn’t bother us.

Verified reviewAbsolutely amazing place in a great central location in chalong. The property is gorgeous and has lovely rooms and a pool. It has a shared bathroom and toilet which was always clean and the overall dining hall to order food drinks and smokables is amazing! They have the cutest cats and dogs who are super friendly and cuddly!
