Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe host asked for a deposit via moneygram after booking. This turned out fine but felt a little odd initially.
Solomone was a great host. The house was well set up for the 4 of us staying, with many things in the kitchen to cook a meal since we stayed over a weekend (everywhere is shut Sundays). We rented a car from the host as well at a good price.

New ZealandGood sized bedrooms but could use more dresser/drawers so we weren't living out of our suitcases for the week. An extra mirror would have also been useful.
Good accomodation for a travelling family, plenty of space for everyone not to be in each other's hair. Loved that it was fully fenced so my children could play outside and also to keep the neighbourhood dogs out. Well lit outside area with large sensor lights for security.

New ZealandHouse had a lot of bugs inside on arrival. Took a long time to clear all the rooms of centepedes as well as a large dead cockroach in one of the rooms. Bathroom was not very clean and was a very mouldy shower mat. Beds very uncomfortable.
Host was very accommodating and friendly. Good location. Fantastic covered deck which was a great place to relax and be cool. Mesh on all windows which meant hardly any mosquitos in sight. Nice rental vehicle available which was extremely useful for us.

AustraliaWe very much enjoyed our stay here and although not “resort style” accommodation it was everything we needed. Our cottage was big & spacious & any request we had was quickly attended to. All the facilities were in working order including the excellent wifi. Lots of friendly advice was offered by the owner including on Tongan culture. Whilst the cottage is located about 4km from the town centre, this turned out not to be a problem. We made use of the convenient & affordable Tourist Taxi service not only for trips to & from town but for full day island tours. It was an ideal base for our holiday.

New ZealandLook, it all depends on your point of reference. For some perspective, I grew up in Tonga so have a more realistic view of what to expect there...a rough rule of thumb with hotels is to subtract a star if you are comparing to a standard Western system! Overall the place was comfortable and clean. If you're comparing to a standard holiday home in Australia or NZ, it is on the basic side (think 1970's beach house). Having stayed at similar places in Tonga in the past, it's no different...if anything a wee bit better. Minor quibbles as above but overall it was fine! For most people, you're not in Tonga to sit in a house but to be out exploring. This place makes a good base for that exploring - close to town, decent size and full kitchen to cook for yourself. Just don't expect 5-star luxury!
I had no problem with this accommodation. There was a very responsive host who usually replied within a couple of hours. The home is in a quiet location (ok, quiet as far as vehicle and people noise goes, the local roosters were rather chatty in the early hours!) and very handy to town (maybe a 10min drive, if that, without traffic). Wifi was good (for Tonga!) minor quibbles - There was a gas hot water system for the shower but no hot water through any of the other taps. The mattresses had lost a bit of their spring but were comfortable enough and the linen was fresh and clean.

AustraliaA bit of refurbishment was needed for the kitchen, but it was fine. There was an unfortunate awful smell from either the sewerage or pipes under the house and was told it was a neighbours pigsty but the smell came through the kitchen sink and other areas in the house not outside or upstairs.
Secure and private property was well maintained from the outside. Communication was excellent with the owner and staff. Great friendly service.

United StatesLiked the place overall but at the time we visited, the oven did not work. Also there was no hot water at that time. The washing machine was primarily operated by the housekeeper.
There was laundry on site and the housecleaner was happy to do it. Working out the price with the host was acceptable. Plenty of space to spread out and enjoy our time in Tonga. Host provided 15gb of internet for use!

United StatesWe stayed at Sam's Place. We were struggling with the rustic accommodations the entire week. Flooring in the home is in need of repair, several areas are damaged and worn, with duct tape used to join them. Damaged ceiling tiles from previous water leaks. I spoke to Solomone about this, as I was concerned about mold. Due to the rain, the one shower we all shared, was crawling with ants. Four seniors, two couples, one in their 80's & three in their 70's, traveling from the USA were all disappointed in our accommodations. This property did not give you a hug, and improvements are definitely needed. Tonga is a country that is struggling, and I am not naive. I have traveled extensively, however, at my age booking a hostel or a one-star accommodations is a bit challenging. Yes, living "local" is a wakeup call. The litter and trash as we walked around the neighborhood was upsetting and stray dogs roam freely.
Solomone was a courteous host and answered all my questions submitted through the messaging app on Booking.com. The deposit required by Solomone, done by wire transfer and required to be made in Tongan currency, took some time. This is not a property that accepts credit cards, so be aware of the fine print when booking the property.
