Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Unclear breakfast payment rules with vouchers; somehow "risky" neighborhood, especially at night with many drug addicts; expensive and unsecured car parking lot next to hotel, better and cheaper to use public parking below Union Square
Very helpful and friendly staff, nice and comfortable room, great bar/lounge, very clean accomodation, hotel offers free tea/coffee throughout the day

No vegetarian food for breakfast (Indian definition of vegetarian does not include egg but includes other dairy products)
The location is excellent, the staff is friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable.

Its an older building so the hallways are a bit narrow. The location is OK but its right on the edge of the tenderloin so nighttime can be a bit sketchy.
Decent breakfast. Good service and a the resort fee is actually something you'll use.

A $25 destination fee was charged which you could redeem for food and gifts. I felt it was a way of forcing me to eat at their restaurant when SF has so many options.

Area around it was a little questionable. Not bad but not great. Parking was $69 a night! Insane

The hallways and elevators show the age of the building. The neighbourhood is a bit downtrodden (which is true of almost all the properties around here, even the expensive ones).
My room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were all great. Nice little restaurant / bar. A bunch of extras that were nice.

The surrounding area was littered with garbage and homeless. Difficult to find area to walk dogs

Strategic position 10mins walk from Union Sq. Very spacious room with bathroom. Breakfast ok, but although we were in three, breakfast included only 2 people. One of us had to pay...a a bit weird but nothing major. Staff very nice

The room decor looked much better in the photos - it was old and depressing in person. One of the reasons I picked this hotel over others was the beautiful rooftop patio that the hotel advertises in its photos. Unfortunately, that rooftop area is not open to hotel guests. It's part of a conference room. All of the added fees are annoying but if you do your research you realize all hotels in SF charge them. So I don't fault the hotel for that. Unfortunately, I arrived at 11:30 pm, tired and ready to get to my room and there was a very long check-in process due to several guests in front of me in line angry and arguing about the charges. Doesn't seem like a great way to do business.
The hotel was fine. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Lobby was beautiful and a good place to hang out and get some work done (though very popular with other guests having loud conference calls, etc.). Good for the value compared to other hotels. Staff was very nice.

No oat milk or vegan dairy for the coffee. But my main issue is they make you pay a $100 deposit (which I was originally told was $50) and they are supposed to pay you back within 5 days of your stay. It has been almost 3 weeks and I have emailed and messaged but received no response or money! Also $10 for WIFI is awful!
I liked the rooms and the comfy beds. The staff were nice.
