To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Amazing location! Many restaurants and shops within walking distance. Public transportation was easy to reach and nearby. Great size rooms. Friendly staff. Small fridge in room to keep some food and drinks refrigerated. Clean rooms. Gorgeous view of the city.

United States of AmericaHowever, I noticed some deferred maintenance/repair that needs addressing: e.g broken and crumbling plaster in the fourth (?) floor hallway that make the place look like it's falling apart.
The hotel was fine for my needs at the time. The staff at the reception and in the restaurant at breakfast were especially helpful and pleasant. The somewhat older decor and atmosphere of the interior were a good change from cookie-cutter, more "modern" hotels.

New ZealandCheck in was a bit of a nightmare - I had pre-paid and they tried to tell me I hadn't and wanted me to pay again, then when I went to pay the $50 holding fee (what is this for anyway?) I paid and then they realised that I had been charged too much but they would not refund it there and then. It finally got refunded a week later (after a bit of chasing). Lots of CHA people in the lobby (to the point there was not where to sit and wait for our friends one night). That was a bit annoying but I like that the hotel was multi purpose.
The location of this hotel is awesome. Room is clean and tidy, although we we entered it was like 1000 degrees - had trouble turning the heating down, but managed in the end!! Bellman - Steve - was amazing. Super helpful.

United States of AmericaThis hotel has a great 130 year history and is a bit rough around the edges for it. It's a little clunky. I like to think it has a patina to it. This I'm sure is not for everyone but it's perfect for me, I enjoy the history. The location is great. I walked to the Chicago institute of arts and the field museum from here and used a bus stop nearby to go to the science and industry museum. I ate breakfast at the hotel every morning, the staff was cheery.

The location is perfect for visiting downtown Chicago.

The location is great, pretty closed to everything, and able to walk to places. The star was friendly and helpful.
