There were troubles with the payment. It got sorted out but it was frustrating. In my room, there was a door to a different room. It was locked but there was 0 sound isolation. Because my neighbor apparently worked on the night sleep was bad. There is no staff to call so there was not a lot I could do since he didn't care There was also 1 shower and toilet for more than 10 rooms.

The room was clean and the location amazing, in the center across Chinatown and next to the irish bank. Price was great for SF

It's an old building -- sound carries extremely well through the walls between rooms and the hallways.

The location of this hotel is fantastic and the rooms are delightfully unique if mildly outdated -- however, they were comfortable and I appreciated the low cost.

Door entry app a bit glitchy, front desk is sometimes not manned during regular hours (although there is a telephone number to call).

Room decoration, maintenance staff, cleanliness, location, shared microwave/coffee maker with provided pods, secure entry after hours.

Without any notice. My card was charged $250 for smoking in my room... here is part of the catch. I don't smoke.. so how is the staff who "besides house keeping" is virtually non existent going to pass that judgement on me, consider there apparent presumption was a fact.. Indeed such a fact that they based there decision to fine me $250... When I don't even smoke. I'm in the middle of my 3rd week here. And it hasn't been cheap. Which is fine. It's just things like this that leave a sour taste in my mouth

The raised on a platform, claw foot tub was an accident waiting to happen. the cleaner mistook a ziplock baggy of 12 art prints ($1,200 value) for candy wrappers and trashed them. the app I had to down load to get into my room and messaging before hand never provided the front of the building code.

Location was good. It was interesting that there was no employees, everything was on code and app. I had my own room.

Hot water often took a while to come through the showers/taps. There isn't always someone on reception which means you may have to call a phone number if you need help. Certainly not up to the standard of a modern hotel, but this was expected as the price was lower than many of the chain hotels.

Hotel is located right next to Chinatown and the financial district. BART/Muni stops are just a five minute walk away. The hotel has a unique style, lots of handdrawn art which gives it a lot of character. Our room was spacious with comfortable beds.

Where the bed was pushed against the wall were spots of mildew and peeling wallpaper. The building is old, but that was disconcerting because it was right by the head of the bed. Additionally, the elevator was broken and although we were able to get to our third room floor, the narrow, steep stairs were difficult to maneuver with our bags.

The hotel is very unique. While the amenities are basic, the artsy vibe is really fun. The location is great too.

Elevator was not operable leaving steep, narrow, windy stair to negotiate with luggage. That was very difficult and exhausting. The ice machine was not operable. It looked like the elevator and ice machine had been none operable for quite some time.

In our view OpenKey is not fit for purpose. Could not get verification on arrival. Physical keys were given. An hour later received no less than 12 verification numbers! The lift was out of order and stayed that way for the whole 9 days! We would not stay in this hotel again.

Being moved to a lower room which was very nice and with a walk in shower. Requested to be moved as the lift was not working for the 9 days of our stay and the stairs were too much as we are elderly. Henry the maintenance man was very helpful in handling our luggage for us. The Manager, whose name I think was Celia, was an absolute diamond when she came on duty and sorted different rooms straight away. Without her help we were considering going elsewhere.

The elevator was broken. Fix it ASAP! The stairs have a curve in them that makes your life flash before your eyes if you are carrying anything up or down the stairs.

The art everywhere was fun. While the bathroom fixtures were older, they were will maintained. Everything about the room was functional and utilitarian. This is a good thing because it is what was advertised and what I was looking for.

The app meant to unlock our door didn't work and we had to wait outside of our room for about 1 hour until someone Brought a physical key. There was no information provided regarding the WiFi password.

The only negative comment is that breakfast wasn't available. It would have been better to edit the listing for the hotel to show that this is the case, as it currently states that it is included in the room rate.
